Cotto should feel upbeat he should have a win on his record from his back to back defeats.

He is no Tito but he still represents the Island

Cotto does not need to be Tito because he's done carved out his own legacy.
He is actually the better boxer who has fought the tougher competition throughout his career.

Don't agree but I don't view it as an insane statement.

Am I in the twilight zone ???? Are we talking about the same Tito Trinidad ??? The same tito who set a WW record for title defenses, the same Tito who fought six strait champions and knocked out 4 of them ?????? Where am I ???

Tito is better but I do view Cotto as greater than most, I throw huge asterisks on the Manny and Margarito loss.

Re: Just got back from the Cotto/Rodriguez presser
cotto got far closer to beating floyd (draw on my card by 115-113 to floyd according to many) than tito would ever have done

No asterisk needed. He just got his ass kicked. It's that simple
As for this fight? It's a meaningless one. All Rodriguez does is lose when he steps up. I see no point in fighting him

Manny should have fought him at a real weight and I truly believe Manny was a juicer.
I wanted Margarito to win but I'm convinced he cheated, we've been over the evidence and the confession.

Theoretical, has nothing to do with the comparison.

This isn't a gimme for anyone I don't think, should turn into a shootout before its over. Cotto should revert and straight jump an early slow strolling Rodriquez. Not let him find range underneath as Cotto is prone to take. Safe bet to say at least...both cut.

Absolutely true. Tito was an entertaining power puncher but any time he stepped up against a legit boxer he got his ass handed to him. Cotto could adapt to styles and he hasn't ducked anyone.

Tito was a better welterweight and light middle, he would have destroyed Cotto.

Re: Just got back from the Cotto/Rodriguez presser
I disagree that Cotto dominates Rodriguez. What has Cotto done at junior middleweight? Rodriguez performed as well as Cotto against Trout. Has Trout predicted a winner in the fight?
-
Re: Just got back from the Cotto/Rodriguez presser
How was the presser by the way? Fun. Fight is in Florida, right?

Legit boxers? Come on, Tito lost to 3 great fighters, 2 of whom were well bigger than him and all better than anyone Cotto ever beat needless to say. A prime De La Hoya would've messed Cotto up at welterweight, I don't even get how anyone can think differently. I would agree that Cotto is the more rounded fighter but he was not better and certainly not greater than Tito, this is nonsense.

it was fun, short but fun, both guys respectful and classy, tickets are pretty cheap and go on sale next week so I'll be going for sure, IMO Cotto should be the favorite no doubt but should be a good fight can't wait to hear the undercard

He did not. Rodriguez barely went through the motions against Trout.

I think you nailed it, but then again... I'm biased. ;D
Still, I have a lot of respect for Cotto. His adaptability to different styles... his willingness to fight ANYONE and EVERYONE they put in front of him... hell... even the way he taught himself English and went from not being able to say two words, to holding his own in an interview. All these things make me proud to say that Cotto is from my little island and represents it well.

Can't be coddled to 40-0 if the bums you're trying to pad your record against are beating you

that only happens if your name is Chavez and you're not a Jr. :)

Chavez had no problem beating bums. Apparently a lot of these Puerto Rican prospects do

Omar Chavez couldn't even get past the joke that is Paez Jr :-X, and Jr had plenty of gifts along the way including fights against Molina and Vanda, and although Molina is a good fighter, Vanda is just a loser from The Contender, but yea dunno what PR prospects you're even referring about, seeing how the current ones have either won world titles or are as of right now still contenders, we don't hash out any Panchito Bojado's sorry

Paez Jr. has a had a better career than Hector Camacho jr. He's never embarrassed himself or country by showing up fat, fighting 4 weight classes above his best, only to get stopped in 1. But Camacho Jr ain't alone in being a failure. It wasn't that long ago I was hearing Braulio Santos, Luis Orlando Del Valle, Jayson Velez, Cesar Seda, Miguel Soto, Jose A Gonzalez and Luis Cruz where fighters to watch. I watch them alright. Watch them lose. In Gonzalez case I saw him just quit. Than you have Abner Cotto, Gabriel Bracero, Jorge Maysonet Jr, Thomas Dulorme, Giovany Rodriguez, Carlos Velasquez, Kenny Galarza, Carlos Negron, damn I can keep going and going. None of them did shit. Roman Martinez is pretty much Puerto Rico's best current fighter. The same Roman Martinez who won his title by gift. And successfully defended it twice with gifts. Puerto Rico current boxing state is in the dumps. It's no good. The days of past glory are just that. Days in the past. It's not opinion. It's fact. You just need to accept it

None of them are worthy of any. Can't fake and pretend there good just cuz of where there from. It don't work that way. It's not my fault they've all crashed and burn when they stepped up. I'll be lying if I said I didn't like the flyweight Jonathan Gonzalez. Cuz I do. But he's got a fight coming up in which I think he's in way over his head. Segura I think is gonna smoke him. And I don't see much in Pedraza, Fontanez or Verdejo. The one to watch I think is Jose Lopez. Wonder Boy. I like what is I see in him so far. He's only 19. Lets see how he turns out

disregarding VD's usual anti-PR rant, rumors are buzzing that it might be Crawford vs. Gamboa on the undercard, should be an interesting fight

Way better fight than the main event, would be a treat if that's true. Crawford is very skilled and tricky, just not sure he can win a shootout with Gamboa assuming the latter guy doesn't lay an egg. This is the first chance to do something Gamboa will have had in several years, he needs to be up for this.

in terms of significance, yes this is a more meaningful fight, but IMO the main event should be fun to watch, I'm just glad that I'm gonna be watching it live and in person :)
