Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
So I'm in between fights tonight with some time on my hands and have found myself YouTubing numerous Danny Garcia fights and Lucas Mattysse fights.
Didn't neccisarily start of with tha intention but I hadn't yet seen Lucas Mattysse vs Devon Alexander and so just went from there.
There were a few things that got me thinking. Firstly the sheer mental strength of both guys. It will almost be a shame to see if one of them has their heart broken in the ring... I'll be honest right of the bat, Garcia could suffer a crushing KO defeat.
Having said that, I think he is the favourite by far - I actually think he is the bigger puncher and is quicker; more explosive overall. Although Mattysse seems like areal tough-nut and also doesn't seem to get credit for his defensive work at such a dangerous range, I wonder if his proximity and pressure will be put off by some stunning Garcia punches.
I'm saying I think it's more likely that Mattysse will give off some distress signals that it is likely that Danny is getting KO'd.

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
lucas currently weighing at 146.6 and Garcia 151

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
I'm leaning towards Danny on this one. Wouldn't mind seeing the look on his dads face if Lucas puts him to sleep though!
-
Lucas by stoppage it'll be another man vs boy fight imo, lucas won't be denied again.
-
Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
No doubt Lucas has the edge but it's farily an even matchup.

See I don't think Danny is a boy though, he's learning but he's already a bit of a terminator in his own right.

What do you make of their respective weights?
I think Matthysse has a big edge in experience over Garcia. Matthysse has been on the big stage before in his opponent's hometowns, in St. Louis for the fight with Devon Alexander and in New Jersey for the fight with Zab. An argument can be made he won those fight, but either way, he has faced slicker boxers than Garcia. I'm not sure what Garcia brings to the table that Matthysse hasn't already seen, whereas I'm not sure Garcia has ever been in the ring with a boxer like Matthysse. If Matthysse is on his game, he should win. Garcia has a determination about him though that makes me think twice picking against him. I like both guys. This should be the fight of the night.

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
This will be a cracking fight and I will go with Lucas to win. Nothing will give me greater satisfaction that seeing Garcia's dad crying.

I dont know I just don't see garcia as special or anything, in my eyes he's been in the right place at the right time and a lil bit of luck. Beating an ancient morales twice does nothing for me, first time barely, kod khan props for that but we know how that can go, beat zab in a close fight. Matthyse on the other hand in my eyes barely beats zab and devon but doesn't get the nod after a somewhat pedestrian start and then just goes nuclear on everybody, he's koing danny no doubt about it in my mind.

Firstly, I disagree entirely that Garcia is the bigger puncher, Matthysse has more straight KOs and literally double the overall KOs of Garcia.
Secondly, Garcia goes through 3 and 4 fight stints without getting a knock out, something Matthysse has never done due to his brute power.
I believe Matthysse with leave Garcia convulsing on the floor.
I actually hope he gets hit so hard his dad KOs as well.

I think Matthysse will win by KO. I doubt I'll bet on it though. Great fight.

;D Hahah. "I know nothing, you know even less" Sounds more like it though. We should come up with some more, it might help Miles shape a concept album.

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
The bookies are terribly underrating Garcia. He has as good a chance as Judah and Alexander did of avoiding Matthysse's power.

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
For the good of mankind this guys poor son needs to get battered. If Matthesye gets knocked out I'm never watching boxing again. ;D

if he was my dad id tell him not to come to the pressers
what an embarrassment

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
as ive said before i think this fight is how good garcia is
i think we know what lucas can do and he can mix it at the top, he has probably improved since the defeats and a fight against zab or even alexander now could well be a different result now
garcia's record is very good but isnt amazing, his best win is KOing khan and lets be honest he was losing the fight and my gran could put khan down with a good swing of her brolly

I think he has helped danny to be honest eric in regards to the mental state of last few opponents
Perhaps not as much in this one because lucas dont speak english but im sure they translate some of the crap angel says.

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
If Danny Garcia beats Lucas Matthysse will it be the biggest win for a Puerto Rican fighter since Trinidad over Vargas?
This is a terrific fight. After seeing Matthysse dismantle Peterson and considering Garcia struggled with Judah, I thought Matthysse knocks out Garcia in the first few rounds, but as the fight nears, I've liked the odds on Garcia for an upset. I'm rooting for Matthysse though.
-
Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
i think garcia will win, mattysse is a big puncher but overall i think garcia is the better of the two. I think alot of people are getting carried away with mattysse win over peterson. I didnt really rate peterson and garcia is in a different league to peterson.

Even if lucas understood everything being said to him I don't think it would affect him in the least, but lucas mid rounds ko.

Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
Garcia is the naturally bigger fighter. And the more rounded fighter. He doesn't hit as hard as Matthyse. But he does possess good power. And I think he has the better chin.

Those are some of the factors that make garcia the winner!
Come on danny.

Garcia winning will not be an upset. I'm surprised so many are going against him. It's a 50-50 fight

Either they hate his dad or they just think garcia is overated.
Garcia has achieved so much but still seems to me a bit green and theres lots he will improve on during and after this victory.
-
Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
Garcia is an overachiever. He's always in great shape, has heart, skills and power.
Its easy to forget OLD Morales was outboxing him in their 1st match, until Garcia's power bailed him out.
Khan was outboxing him as well until Garcia landed those big shots.
I think power will be the deciding factor in this match as well, but it won't be Garcia's power punches that win the fight.
Matthysse is a man on a mission and he's going to stop Garcia, or at least drop him a couple of times en route to a decision victory.
-
Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
Yeah I make it 50/50 too.
Danny's ability to punch with his opponent will keep Lucas honest for the first half of the fight but then I suspect Danny is a bit of a late fader and so the question for me is if he will fold under pressure before Lucas' chin cracks.
Danny has to remember to straighten up that right hand becuase when he varies the right hand, it all starts to look a bit special.
@erics44 yeah I had Lucas winning the Devon fight but also I wouldn't complain about the Judah fight.

Agree. It is a 50/50 fight. In my opinion, the reason that people are picking against him is that he struggled somewhat against Judah in his last fight. He also struggled against Morales in their first fight and lost all the rounds against Khan before catching him and changing the course of the fight. Basically, he looks beatable.
In contrast, Matthysse is coming off an explosive dominating win over Lamont Peterson. Many people picked him to beat Lamont, but no one thought he would do it in three rounds. Then you have Judah saying Matthysse is the biggest puncher he's ever faced, and having faced both of them, saying Matthysse will stop Garcia.
Garcia might have the decided advantage in hand speed and that could play a big role. He also looks bigger than Matthysse. I bet Garcia outweighs Matthysse by 5 pounds or more on fight night.
This is also a Mayweather card, and even if both guys are Haymon-signed, Garcia is more Mayweather's people. Matthysse has been on the raw end of two decisions in the past too. I can see that same thing happening here. Matthysse winning the fight, but losing in a debatable decision. Who are the judges?
Neither of these guys has ever hit the floor as a professional. In my opinion, it might come down to who gets touched first.
-
Re: Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mattysse
Count me amongst those who have this as a pick 'em. Matthysse has the edge in power and experience, but there is an air about Garcia that makes me think he is a special fighter. This feels a lot like the build-up to the Pavlik-Miranda fight where we saw a hyped up power-puncher get taken apart by a bigger, more skilled opponent.

The judges are Robert Hoyle, Glenn Trowbridge and Juergen Langos. Two Vegas judges. And a Germen one. Tony Weeks is the ref
You're right in that neither one has been down. But Matthysse is the only one I seen get some what hurt before. Against Vivian Harris. Garcia took some shots in the Judah fight. But I don't think he was really all that hurt

Lucas is nothing like miranda, miranda couldn't box for shit! Lucas is a good enough boxer puncher that he should have got the decisions in both his losses, both of whom are some dam good boxers. I mean miranda was as crude as they come to compare lucas to that is doing him a big disservice.
