Who do you think is the better actor Robert Deniro or Al Pacino ???

I was watching Scarface for the the thousandth time and I swear that was a flawless acting performance, never have I seen someone transform themselves to that degree.

Im a die hard fan of both guys but tend to like Pacino a little more.. Ive actually asked myself this question many times and debated with people at work and it comes down to this.

Deniro has range and is more versatile but NOBODY can play a gangster like Al Pacino..

Deniro is the better actor but Im more of an Al Pacino guy.. Scarface I can watch over and over again and never get tired. Dam I love Scarface.

Pacino is a genius at portraying a mutli dimensional bad guy. In most of his movies where he played a villain, you couldnt help but to feel sorry for the guy in some way because he always had a good reason for what he did.. Even though he played a lot of Villain roles, he was very good at showing the human side as the antagonist and i love him for it.. He's the type of bad guy you want to root for.

His mannerism and his facial expressions are fuckin priceless man..

Its like comparing a Ferrari to a Lamborghini, both are perfection it just depends on preference, out of all the great roles Deniro put on he never went as far out of character as Pacino did with Tony Montana.

Robert can play all types of roles and has made alot more better films than pacino.

But scarface was a roller coaster type of film that needed no sequel and stands alone as one of the best films of all time (and tom cruise born on the first of july...imho.)

In boxing terms:-

Robert de niro - more skills, varied, lots of impact, pound4pound. Adapts.

Al pacino:- massive potential in ko power from one fight ages ago that still has everyone scared..and they should be.

De Niro overall simply for his range, although I can't seperate them in terms of their gangster films.

Had yet another rewatch of Deer Hunter! Deniro draws you into his world beyond words. You look away from the big screen expecting to be surrounded by trees. I like Al, but Deniro is a national treasure.

Denzel washington is another one that can only play a certain type of role but he does play them very well.

De Niro is my favourite of the two love him in Heat, Goodfellas, Godfather, casino, raging bull, taxi driver, whereas Al was awesome in Scarface but seems to be a bit of an over actor.

Scarface and advocate were his best films to me.

Robert de niro has so many different types of films BUT were any of his films better than scarface?

Either way, on the whole de niro wins.

I prefer joe pesci to al pacino.

At least joe done a "my cousin vinny" type of film which shows variation.

You dont have to be great actor to show that side but pacino major trump card will always be scarface.

We all have more Travis Bickle in us than Scarface if we're honest, especially Master ;D

Tough one. I think for me that Al Pacino's performance as Lefty in Donnie Brasco swings it for me. I don't think DeNiro could pull that kind of role off.

For me it's impossible to pick. Both guys are universally recognized top 5 ATGs.

Pacino, I still say, had the best decade of movie making out of any actor EVER in the 70's.

Six legendary movies in the span of 8 years, unreal. Then you add in Scarface, Scent of a Woman, Carlito's Way (underrated gangster classic), Glengarry Glen Ross, Heat, Donnie Brasco, Devil's Advocate, Insomnia, ect ect. How can you go wrong? He has incredible range and incredible acting chops. His movies have been mostly garbage over the last decade or so, but I thought he was great in the HBO biopics for Jack Kevorkian and Phil Spector.

Deniro you got Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Godfather 2 (all in the span of a couple years), Deer Hunter (if you want to see legendary acting, the russian roulette scenes are about as good as it gets), Raging Bull... he was awesome in the King of Comedy. Untouchables, Goodfellas, Casino, the Cape Fear remake (amazing in it). He even played Frankenstein and was great.

It's hard to pick.

Love them both. And both have range. People forget that Pacino has also played everything from a stressed-out, over-the-hill football coach (Any Given Sunday)..... to an obnoxious, suicidal blind man (Scent of a Woman).

Disagree with Master on "Analyze This" (De Niro).
I thought that was a hell of a funny movie.
