Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
Nonito Donaire, Vic Darchinyan set for rematch on Nov. 9 - ESPN
sorry but IMO too little too late, just using Darchinyan to try and make Nonito look brilliant again, hope this backfires in a big way
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
You may get your wish. Donaire forgot what defense was since he started training with garcia. He likes to walk people down and and slug it out now. Damn waste of skill and talent, but he's trying to sell seats. He still has the size advantage i think, so maybe he pulls it out anyway. Either way, not sure if he is in the same frame of mind to pull that beauty of a short chopping lead hook off while staring into a charging opponent like before.
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
It's a fair "bounce back" fight for Donaire, but nothing to be excited about.
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
Donaire should take but he is going to be like Khan, just a fight or two away from obscurity.

@walrus - the fight that should happen is Donaire against John in Macau in 2014 at featherweight. But, John will continue fighting Thai cab drivers and retire into the Indonesian countryside.
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
Probably a fun fight, but unless Donaire has really lost the plot we know what happens. It's more or less a stay busy fight for him unless Darchinyan has really gone under the radar for a few years, I think the last I saw him was against Moreno. Is this at featherweight as well? That'd be even worse, I know Donaire said he was moving up.
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
I've actually come to like Vic as he's calmed down and become humble, but I can't help but feel this a cheap way back for Donaire and trying to recapture the push and :o factor from where it all began, at featherweight now. Darchinyan was being caught clean and wobbled by a Javier Callo last time out.

wouldn't call him a cherry picker but can't say he's always taken on the best fights available, either way like I said, IMO this fight is happening a little too late for it to hold any significance barring a lucky Darchinyan upset
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
Before training with Garcia, who was Donaire's trainer?

The Penalosas still train him at least that is what he said about a year ago along with Mike Bazzel as conditioning coach. I'm pretty sure they originally hired Garcia for mental prep hence the "training by phone."
He might want to think about removing a couple of hands from the cookie jar.

Cherry pickers are cherry pickers, though he ranks behind champions Pac and Mayweather. Nonito has fought light hitting smaller fighters. No Gonzalez, no Mares, no Garcia. He underestimated Rigos power and showed he can not hang when punches comeback at him. i would love to see him fight Santa Cruz at this point where a ton of punches would be coming his way. Anything less than the names above is continued cherry picking.

Hoping this other cherry picking Arum pinoy boy gets hit by a supposed lucky punch too !
It won't likely happen due to Donaire's hunger after losing to Rigondeaux. It's a sure fireworks and action pack clash of two warriors. ;D
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
Well and aside from Rigondeaux, but that's actually true. Vic has been in tougher since getting KO'ed there than Donaire has. Don't give Vic a lot of a chance in this though, but the last fight I saw of his was against Moreno.
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
This is just a warm up fight, nothing more. Nonito is coming back from a loss so he deserves a gimmie fight. Nobody should be complaining..
And he's reunited with his father..

That's a bit unfair. He had a very busy year and fought tough opposition, arce not withstanding. He just lost to a really good guy. You can't chastise a boxer for losing when he did his best. Its thinking like that that really prevents boxers from taking risks
You are probably right. I actually like Donaire. I always found him exciting to watch. I was a bit disappointed after his lost. Actually, I've just been annoyed in general after Mares lost and some of these BS calls. Hopefully Donaire will put on a good show.
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
Darchinyan is what 3 weight classes above his best? Terrible fight. He couldn't beat any of the top bantamweights. How is he gonna a beat one of the top Super Bantamweight? He's not. The only reason this fight is happening is cuz he beat Luis Del Valle. But that doesn't prove Vic is back. It just proves what many already knew. Del Valle was overrated garbage who couldn't handle an old, smaller fighter. I see this rematch ending even quicker than the first fight
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
if anyone wanted to use Darchinyan as a bounce back fight and it'd well make sense it'd be Mares, but it's a little to late for Donaire to be giving him the rematch, pointless really
Re: Darchinyan/Donaire II finally set for Nov 9
I dont like Donaire but cut the guy some slack. How many fighters in history after a shit kicking come back to fight a guy this dangerous as a comeback fight? Same with Manny coming back after being ko'd against Rios. That is what brass is. The very thing we hang our hats on. Both men could have taken walks in this coddled market. Give them credit. Two guys that just happen to be from the same country that represent this phantom "p4p" many throw about. Neither is milking the comeback.

You actually think Darchinyan poses a danger?

To some degree for sure. Donaire was ridiculed. I'm not giving Donaire a pass and it looks a little in house but its not a walk in the park either. Most likely will not end like Chavez/Vera.

I agree. I don't think Darchinyan has any chance of going the distance.
