Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
Ricky Burns is back this weekend against Beltran. The fight is live on skysports and it should be a decent one. I've not seen anything of Beltran but I've heard good things and I read he had a good victory vs Lundy. I can't pass comment on him really with not seeing him fight. But I think it will be a test for any fighter going to Ricky's backyard. Hearn said Beltran is the best 135 fighter outside of the
Champions so it should be a decent one.
Who's everyone picking??
-
Seen Beltran get robbed a time or two against prospects. He is a hard nosed well schooled Mexican fighter. He's been training very hard for this opportunity and I'm picking him to pull off the upset. One of my favorite lesser known fighters.

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
Beltran should beat Burns. But unless he gets the stoppage he ain't getting the win. Burns will not benefit from Beltran like he did from Gonzalez in his last fight. Cuz he even though Gonzalez was kicking his ass everybody knew the quit was in. Burns only had to ride out the early storm and avoid getting knocked out. Gonzalez true nature would than show and he would quit. Sure enough. Burns won't get a similar gift from Beltran.

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
Based on beltran's style and how he's been performing lately, id say he's the toughest opponent to date for burns.
I dont feel too safe picking beltran knowing where the fight is taking place but I do feel that he's the superior fighter .not by a big margin but he's just slightly better.

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
Burns could stop Beltran just like he did Mitchell and people would still not give him any credit.
"Oh Beltran was distracted "
"He wasn't 100%"
"The reff made him lose focus"
"Somebody started playing THE BAGPIPES !"
Wouldn't be the first fighter to be overated purely for the fact that he was Mexican. Should be a decent tear up but I think Burns' experience should shade it for him. The same experience that allowed him to not shoot his bolt and beat Gonzalez despite being outboxed by a very decent boxer.

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
ricky burns is a big boy for the weight, big strong arms, solid guard and punches very nicely
he wasn't at his best in his last fight but it wasn't as bad as everyone is suggesting
I think it will take someone special to beat him

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
I liked his comment on an interview today, when he was asked whether or not he'd be going to the Scotland football match on Friday.
"I'll probably have to give it a miss and watch it on the telly, I don't want to waste valuable eating time!"
I reckon he should have the beating of Beltran, Burns has been tested plenty of times before and pulled out the win, I reckon he does so again.

Happy birthday Rhun ;)

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
Burns was awful against Gonzales and I was surprised at how easily he was being out worked. If he shows the form that he had previously when beating Mitchell and Katasidis he should easily win. Beltran is tough and I think I saw him beat Lundy who is a good fighter on ESPN.

Experience had nothing to do with it. That was just Gonzalez showing his true nature. Which is to quit. Burns just happened to be at the right place at the right time

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
This should be a good styles match-up. I reckon the most likely outcome is Burns on PTS, he should be able to play boxer more in this fight compared with last time, however I've been contemplating backing Beltran all week at around the 4/1 mark.

I think youd be daft to bet on beltran
I don't know anything about him as a boxer but if you study his record he hasn't really beaten anyone of any note and as soon as he steps up to even just below world level he seems to lose
people talk about the lundy win but that was razor close and this is the same fella who just lost all 10 rounds to ajose alusigon (spelling!!)
he could be tough so burns on points is a possibility, I think he might knock him out tho, what are the odds on that?

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
Lundy beat Olusegun.
Maybe I am daft but I've watched Beltran fight, i'm not just basing my opinion on his boxrec record. Gonzales had no chance on paper either but boxed Burns head off until quitting (I backed him too). :)
You can get 11/4 for Burns to KO him.

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
@Fenster - i think you got a good bet at 4/1 on Beltran. I'm not sure he wins, but those odds are nice.
-
Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
If Burns wins, he should fight Vasquez to determine the true champion at LW.

One has to be daft to bet on Beltran? at the same time U say that you dont even know him as a boxer . You make no sense.
You are either ignorant or dont know much about boxing/styles...
You dont study records, you study styles.. I dont mean to knock on you but somebody who makes pick off records is a classic example of a boxrec warrior..
Beltran is one of those fighters who are much better than what his record suggests and some of those losses were borderline robberies while some were close bouts that could have gone his way..
Sharif Bogere fight for instance. I assume you didnt watch that fight but Bogere should have lost his undefeated record to Beltran. He got a gift.
Beltran is a victim of circumstances and he's a whole alot better than his record..

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
I've slept on Burns but if in fact he is the type who can be out hustled and fails to establish respectable power, he will most likely be in deep doo doo with Beltran. Beltran is far from "your stereo typical face first Meheecan slugger" and knows how to break a guy down and mix his attack. Burns better pack a lunch and get some sleep cause he will not be allowed to rest. What's the actual start time??
-
Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
burns looked a little uneasy at the weigh in.

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
I will be covering the whole bill tonight from ringside. I will pass a link to all the fight reports through the night when they are ready (site in the signature)
Regarding main event. I expect Ricky to be too good for Beltran. If Beltran doesnt push Burns back then he will get beaten from the outside. Beltran has to get inside where he is incredibly accurate.
Styles makes fights and this will be a good one.
Ricky by late TKO (could be cuts) or wide UD

Forget what State you are in but its 3 est or noon my time. I think Ricky has gained some pop moving up as there has been much more to his punches. I also think his boxing has improved. The safe bet is a points win but I have a feeling he ends it late.

Might be able to catch it then. Sure they'll have some links floating around. He just needs to keep high volume and not get sucked into silly macho bs. Beltran has sneaky whipping hooks and good timing inside, but he can also cuts up. Just hope for a quality scrap and no shady shate.

A few pick Beltran to win.

Re: Ricky Burns - Raymundo Beltran this weekend!
Burns never the favorite whats new,! he gets the job done but does he receive any praise in a
nut shell NO, he's been written off more times than I can count, give him a little credit a good
solid fighter.
