Do or Die: Bobby Gunn to meet Roy Jones Jr in December!
Hackensack, NJ (October 17, 2013) – Former IBA, WBC USNBC and WBA NABA cruiserweight titlist Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn will have a career defining opportunity when he meets former pound for pound king Roy Jones Jr. in December in Pennsylvania.
Gunn, who sports a professional ledger of 21-5-1 with 18 wins by knockout, fought James Toney and Tomasz Adamek in his last two bouts but came up short both times. A legendary bare knuckle boxer whose bouts have been viewed more than 600,000 times on YouTube Gunn won a number of cruiserweight belts and was rated in the top 10 by the WBA and WBC. The heavy-handed New Jersey based Canadian was on the verge of retiring but had interest in fighting Jones Jr. for a number of years.
“I’ve wanted a match up with Roy for quite some time but it never worked out for a number of reasons,” stated Gunn. “We’ve been working on this for awhile and I wasn’t sure if it was ever going to happen but I’m glad it will. People can say what they want about Roy and I at this stage but this is an extremely important fight. The winner will take a huge step forward and the loser is at the end of the road.”
One of the greatest fighters in boxing history, Roy Jones Jr. is one of the few boxers of any era that truly doesn’t need an introduction. In 64 professional bouts, Jones Jr. is an outstanding 56-8 with 40 wins by way of knockout. The former middleweight, undisputed light heavyweight and heavyweight titleholder has wins over boxing greats Bernard Hopkins, Felix Trinidad, the aforementioned Toney and Hall of Famer Virgil Hill amongst others. In his most recent bout, Jones Jr. traveled to Poland and topped unbeaten hometown favorite Pawel Glazewski.
Jones Jr.-Gunn is scheduled for 12 rounds in the cruiserweight division. The card is promoted by Jones Jr’s Square Ring Promotions and the exact date and location along with undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

Bobby gunn the former bare knuckle champ? Roy can easily lose this fight. I hope he dont get seriously hurt
-
Why Roy why?
Beat this guy and retire.

Re: Do or Die: Bobby Gunn to meet Roy Jones Jr in December!
I hope he knocks that jackass (RJJ) out. Then I hope RJJ wins two more fights and fights an up and coming guy and gets smashed again.
I have a lot of respect for fighters, but not Ali; I hope his condition came from the people he talked shit about. And not RJJ. I hope he ends up broke and sucking on his own toes. He shouldna oughta played hoops before a fight.
-
Jones should never fight again , he's been shot since before the Calzaghe fight.
-
Re: Do or Die: Bobby Gunn to meet Roy Jones Jr in December!
His last fight was a loss to washed James Toney. After he loses to washed Roy Jones, I'm sure he's gonna go after washed up Evander Holyfield.
-
Re: Do or Die: Bobby Gunn to meet Roy Jones Jr in December!
Roy's been washed up for almost 10 years, but it'd be pretty sad if he lost to a fighter the caliber of Bobby Gunn even at this juncture.

Your irrational hate is uncalled for friend. In the past you've gone so far as to say Jake Lamotta would stop Roy in his prime.
You can't possibly believe all of this. Roy's a nice guy who held on far too long. No need to wish him ill will.

Thats not so ridiculous, seeing as La Motta gave the greatest fighter ever his first loss.

Don't troll me. I'm one of the last allies you have left and probably vice versa lol
You know damn well a guy with a 20% ko ratio who is a face first swarmed sure as hell isn't going to defeat a prime Roy Jones.

Hulk, you're my long time friend around here, but LaMotta will walk all over RJJ at 160. Look at the quality of guys he fought. He was so much more than a face first swarmer: the only guy that said he was easy to hit was Fritzie Zivic.
He would take the distance away from Jones, and there is no way o n this planet Jones can hurt him with a punch. He would make RJJ fight and that cat never had the heart for a fight.

Likewise buddy, but I believe Roy had freakish power at 160-168. He certainly could have hurt Lamotta or any one. He did have heart, he proved it in Griffin I, Tarver I and the Harding fight. As an old man, he even proved it in taking a beating against Calzaghe.

Re: Do or Die: Bobby Gunn to meet Roy Jones Jr in December!
I often wonder about these things. Roy has proven everything he needed to prove, in including the fact age has caught up with him. I used to think the Rolling Stones toured only for the money these days. Yes, money is a great motivator but I think these guys, including Ray do these things as it is such a large part of their life and hard to get away from. Do you guys feel the same. I also think Roy really shouldn't take anymore shots, not that he is a terrible announcer but he is showing some signs of wet brain, son.

Did you just say that LaMotta beats Jones? Take the distance like he did against Robinson? Come on man.

Alright, I can see that fitting into the equation. But do you think what I said is null and void.

No. I dont think anything you say is null and void. Roy Jones is my favourite fighter along with Greb and a lost cause. He still believes he's a factor or he needs the cash. How can he need the cash? And what is 5 figures going to do? He's got the biggest ego in the history of the sport.
He cant be broke.

Based on what? Beating Toney who had no consistency?
He only held one title at super middle, the IBF. There were 2 other people regarded as world champions, Frankie Liles and Nigel Benn. Benn was a massive name in america too. Especially after he beat McClellan.
There was also Eubank, then Collins.
He wasnt even the best in the division in those 2 years he was in it. To be the best you have to prove it and leave no dispute.

If you think Lamotta would beat Roy Jones prime for prime, you're an idiot.
If you think Lamotta would stop Roy Jones prime for prime, you should be killed.

Lamotta outweighed Robinson, he lost to him 5 times, Lamotta was very lucky to win the title in the last round, he was fortunate to have a great chin.

Yup. Lamotta is one of the most overrated fighters of all time. He basically is regarded as one of the greatest because of ONE fucking win over Robinson who, as you pointed out, was SEVERELY outweighed.
On the night of the fight, Jake had to cut weight to make 160, while Robinson, without cutting weight, weighed in at 144 - he didn't even make Welterweight, let alone middleweight. So it was a middleweight NARROWLY beating a junior welterweight... who gives a shit? If Golovkin beat the shit out of Danny Garcia, what would that prove? People always forget this fact.
Also, there's a misconception that Lamotta was a huge puncher... he wasn't!! He wasn't a dynamic, one punch guy. He was strong as an ox but he was a pressure fighter. He was a brief champ who wasn't able to defend his belt once. He doesn't belong in the same conversation as Roy Jones.
Taking Lamotta over Jones really is one of the dumbest opinions somebody could have in boxing. It's just such a boneheaded thing to think.

Lamotta only had 20 something wins by KO outta over 100 fights.
Greynotsoold is NOT an idiot nor should he be killed. He knows boxing very well. I just think he has a real dislike for Roy Jones, perhaps because he broke all the fundamentals of boxing and still was so great.
I started another thread about Jorge Fernando Castro, he fought Roy n lost a wide UD. If expect a Lamotta fight to resemble that. Was Lamotta tougher than Castro? I doubt it. Nobody was IMO.
-
Re: Do or Die: Bobby Gunn to meet Roy Jones Jr in December!
Looks like the worst part is he just wants to springboard into a meaningless cash grab with mma Silva. For that reason alone I'd like to see Gunn leave him horizontal
-
There is no way Roy is even top 25 greatest ever. If he cracks the top 50 he is lucky. That being said, Roy was phenomenally gifted n a good guy, so I don't think anyone should wish him ill. I wish he would just retire. I hate seeing Toney, Evander, n Roy just hanging on n getting beat by guys who have no business in the ring with them.

What a stupid statement.
Wishing parkinsons on a legend like ali (or anyone) when talking dirt about your opponents is part of the game is pretty pathetic.
Did michael watson deserve brain damage for his actions or perhaps we can bring up gerald mcclellan for fighting dogs...or how about freddie roach for getting rid of ariza?
Yeah he deserves it! They all do..
