Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Ortiz will be fighting Alfonso Gomez now.. Im glad GBP decided to be reasonable about this cuz Broner-Maidana on PPV didnt make any kind of sense.

Much agreed, it's a fight I want to see but never would have paid for. I think it was far to early to put Broner as the main draw in a ppv. Hopefully he gets his ass kicked and never makes it to ppv.

Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
I'm not that interested in Broner-Maidana. With all the big fights GB has around that weight for Broner, it seems like they are feeding Maidana too him.

Maidanas performance against Alexander doesn't inspire much confidence against Broner, but then again look how EASY Broner was to hit against Paulie.
Maidana has real power and a great will. He is a live underdog.

Gotta agree. Really surprised how easily Maidana is being overlooked and hopefully Broner is doing the same. Devon is levels above Broner in defense and backfoot. I see Broner hit way too much and having struggled when he actually did step up to blow off a major hitter like Maidana.

Me neither.. this is a gimmie fight for broner really and gbp changing this to a non ppv event kind of shows that. They figured people arent going to pay for this mismatch so they backtracked.
Broner-maidana is a Boxing after Dark level fight..
Easy fight for broner..

Maidana should be tailor made for broner but honestly if gavin rees can tag ya so can maidana, so hopefully broner doesn't tighten up his defense and eats one he doesn't seem comin but don't see it happenin.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
With Broner I think with Broner he needs to have a bit longer in his own weight class to hone his craft before moving up, I feel he's made a move for the money too early by fighting at welterweight.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
this kinda reminds me of mayweater v gatti. i think that might be what golden boy sees as well. but broner ain't floyd and marcos ain't arturo... hopefully it ends differently.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
i feel like both fighters are fighting a bad style for them. maidana has a hard time with speed and broner has a hard time with pressure. i will go out on a limb and say that maidana is the one who overcomes the adversity.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Broner is about 180 at the minute. He's not living the life and if he doesn't take Maidana seriously he could lose. He's only had one fight above 135 and that was Paulie. He hasn't exactly had his chin checked at 147 and he's going in with a guy who can punch. Maidana is going to be looking at how out of shape Broner is and thinking about tickling those ribs.

There is no way Broner will fight Maidana the way he fought Rees. There will be plenty of separation for most of the fight.

Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Maidana is a tough dude, but styles make fights. Maidana is a mauler who leaves himself open. In my opinion, this is a fight to make Broner look good after the sour taste left in people's mouths from his last fight. I think they'll stay away from boxers for a while with Broner. As far as outcomes, I could see something comparable to Alexander - Urango.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
This means they could not sell it as a ppv fight so making out they are doing us a favour. Cunts.

Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
When did Maidana suddenly become considered a pushover? He's a dangerous guy with a lot of wallop behind his punch.
The last few fights, all anyone could talk about was how Broner was fighting guys (Rees and Paulie) who he knew couldn't punch worth a shit and wouldn't be able to hurt him. Now he's fighting p4p one of the nastiest bangers in the sport who is also a legit top 10 WW, and people are still talking shit.
I'm not saying Maidana is a Pacquaio, Bradley or Mayweather. But come on, he's not a pushover, especially for a guy like Broner who loves to stand in the pocket and throw bombs himself.
This is a potential great action fight for free... stop complaining!

LOL, the main thing here is he was fighting Paulie. No need to defend yourself everytime he hits you its like a pillow hitting your face. Broner is so slow and robotic. Hes a tough guy but dont see him lasting past 7 or 8

I know you mean Maidana is slow n robotic. Anyway, Gavin Rees, Ponce De Leon, n those carefully selected other opponents tagged Broner a lot as well.

Yeah I just don't see this elusiveness in broner and he reminds me much more of a berto than floyd, crazy quick hands but lacking in other aspects. maidana ate shots from victor, amir, devon and a few others and they couldn't put him away, doubt broner hits as hard as them at 147, fuck it I can see maidana grinding out a late ko cause he's gona be there for twelve.

Just for the record I would be delighted to eat crow here. I hope you guys are right because I love Maidana and hate Broner. But I think his style suits Broner perfectly

Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Broner was talking all of that stuff about only fighting on ppv from here on in. GTFOOH!!!

Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Good deal, I wouldn't think of buying that on PPV but it's still a nice fight. Broners going to look good here imo, could even be a DeMarco type showing. He's not going to have to look for Maidana, he'll be able to get set and let his hands go to the body. The guy reminds me vaguely of Canelo as much as anyone else in truth, maybe I'm nuts there but he's not great on his feet and needs to plant them to get off, kind of punches in a shell etc. Still don't see Maidana winning this though, Broner can hurt him and will tee off.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
They're saying they only pulled the PPV becausae it's so close to Christmas and wouldn't sell and that Broner will be PPV from next year on. Alvarez has three fight dates for next year and they're all going to be PPV. There are going to be a lot of PPV fights on Showtime next year.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
That makes sense, kind of lame that they would declare a guy "PPV only" before he's really proven he can sell them, but whatever.
I could see buying Broner-Garcia if it had a really good undercard, but thats about it, and they aren't going to make that fight.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Even if they do 2-300 000 buys per event, and they should do that easy with Alvarez, that's a lot of money at fifty dollars a pop. They can pay guys like Alvarez and Broner much more than they'd earn as the main event on regular cable and actually make some money as well. I'm guessing this is a new business model by Showtime/GBP.
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
something that many people have forgotten is that maidana has become a little more controlled in his last few fights and he uses his speed more. i dont think that he will necessarily come flying in from the opening bell.

I agree with you. It's definitely a watchable fight, but it wasn't a PPV fight. Garcia-Broner might be a PPV fight, that is, if we're looking for a PPV fight for Broner.
Maidana's Achilles Heel is well-known, he's susceptible to speed and body punches. Broner will target the body early in the fight with his speed and stop Maidana. Boxers can beat Broner, but Maidana isn't a boxer. That's why this fight wasn't worth PPV.

Yep. Boxing fans are mugs in that respect. Makes you wonder how we allowed this to happen. They televised lots of great boxing for free in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Now it's a special treat we have to pay extra for. Boxing is a minor sport now and Rupert Murdoch and friends are all massive cunts.

Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Only way Broner loses is if he's not conditioned properly. He's really out of shape right now and if he doesn't come in tip top shape, Broner could take em into deep waters.
But he's only 24 so he might not have weight issues..
-
Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
It's true, Broner looks fat and greasy still and this fight isn't far off. No idea why any athlete would let themselves go like that even if they can get away with it, and it tells you he didn't get any kind of wake up call from the Malignaggi fight. He's still got a lot of things he could improve on but thats not going to happen if he views training as an 8 week fat camp.

You know I'd agree, if Maidana didn't seem grateful to enter the clinches himself half the time. He was kept on a leash for almost that entire fight, Alexander did some good work when he wasn't holding and MM didn't really do anything much at all. I think Broner is a really good infighter and will exploit the range Maidana needs to get off, hoping for a good fight though.

Alexander has been boring as of late and that fight really pissed me off. However, he's a very good boxer and I doubt Broner could beat him.

Re: Broner-Maidana is no longer PPV.. GBP's Christmas present
Agreed, didn't even think of Alexander-Broner, guess because I wouldn't want to see it very much. Seems like Alexander has been talked about for just about everyone in the last year or so, he was supposed to fight Brook, then Khan, even Floyd.
