I always find that just when I start to come around on Rosado, I then hear him talk. Based on ??? Why not speak out earlier, didn't want to jeopardize a payday or what?

CEO for Grant response. Stevens will be all over those gloves.
Quote:
Elvis Grant Phillips, the CEO of Grant Worldwide, hit back at middleweight contender Gabe Rosado for his recent comments related to the gloves used by WBA/IBO champion Gennady Golovkin during their January fight at the Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden.
Rosado, in a recent interview with BoxingScene.com, questioned the nature of the Grant gloves that Golovkin was using. He felt Golovkin was provided with a different type of glove. Rosado took a beating in the fight, which his corner eventually stopped, and Golovin picked up a seventh round TKO victory.
"Some people can't handle a loss, but to come back eight or nine months later and start pointing fingers...it's pretty sad," Phillips told BoxingScene.com.
"He had the opportunity to use the same gloves, to use Golovkin's gloves. Abel Sanchez told them 'if you think something is wrong, then take our gloves and we'll use the backup gloves.' [Rosado's trainer] trainer was trying them and they said 'no, no, no...we'll use our gloves.' So that's why it's really foolish what Rosado said, but karma is a bitch and it came back [to bite him in the Peter Quillin fight].

What an idiot, no word of it until now? And he had a chance to inspect and use the same gloves according to that article. Complete non story.

Why is the CEO of a major company like Grant talking like a thug?

Be interesting to see if guys like Ishida or Macklin jump on board or thank him for a belated heads up. Something tells me they won't. Talking it up is one thing, but suggesting a guy is a cheat is nothing to toss around lightly. Just not too bright.

Is it really a surprise? He's the ceo of a boxing involved company, doubt him talking like a thug is his worst quality. As for rosado coming out with something like this months after the fact just seems like sour grapes

Makes you wonder what's going on in they're heads when they say things--that are better left unsaid.
Leonard comes to mind and now this, I'm scratching my head.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
This is one of the annoying things sports fans do "why now", as if it would have been better at any time. If he said it directly after the fight it would have been an excuse in the eyes of fqns. If he said it before the fight happened fans would have said he was looking for a way out/scared.
You don't agree with his question that's fine but nobody has more right than a man who stood in there and faught to ask the question. Whenever he chooses, he earned that right by stepping between the ropes.

Uhm I guess you missed the part where it said that golovkin offered him to wear those gloves and he would wear the backups. I don't care who you are if you genuinely thought your opponent wore tampered gloves you would make a stink right then and there regardless of consequence just like shanes corner did with margarito.

This is exactly my point. We don't know how he felt at the time so we interpret and conject. Why can't what a guy says ever just be how he feels? I don't agree with the guy but I'm not going to go making up his thoughts in my own mind. Sports is less about sport and more about interpretation every day.

Because in this instance its not about how he feels, its about accusing another boxer of wrong doing with apparently no factual claims behind it but just his feelings.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
I apologize I am not expressing my point well. And I further apologize that this is going to be a very long explanation.
Sports debate is nolonger about the sport. Its ever changing qualifyers turn everything to mush. In this case it's "why now" as if we know why or is if it matters. It is what it is, it's how he feels. People can agree or disagree. I choose to disagree. But to dismiss his feeling with your choice of qualifyer means you can come to any opinion you choose. That's fine too but there is a false sense in sports debate that the qualifyer is valid.
Take for instance year ago the debate was Chauncey Billups or Steve Nash for MVP. All hard evidence pointed to Chauncey so people said "but Chauncey played with better players so he isn't as valuable". That's a false criteria used to make the claim you choose. Almost every MVP in history proves that qualifyer is irrelevant. But in this pick and choose age that's how it's done and somehow it's deemed right because that was the criterea for that instance.
Look at the year Michigan and Ohio State were #1 and #2 they played a great game and this one time qualifyer was put in that "people don't want to see a rematch". That was the qualifyer that year. What happened to that qualifyer the year LSU rematched Bama. You can make the case Bama and LSU were the best teams but people thought the same about Michigan and Ohio State years before they simply changed criteria. For that matter LSU had a better year than Bama, they played a rougher schedule and won more games and the conference title and Bama only beat them on a neutral field while LSU beat Bama at Bama which is much harder. LSU had a better year in total but the criteria is throw the whole away for the last which is faulty as well.
After all that I still haven't expressed the point well but I'll say he said it he must believe it. Agree or disagree but don't qualify. It's gone too far with sports debate into what athletes think say and do. Has anyone noticed on a boxing forum not one thread on the first page is discussing the boxing aspect of a single boxing match that has happened? It's not this site alone, others are the same. Are we boxing fans or boxer fans? Do we like the sport or the debate?

*3g's been knocking dudes out since the amatuers...he's perfected his craft. Rosado pro says"that muthafka hits toooo hard" well, join the club.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
I hope this is not true, opponents will be closely observing him from now on.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
Its all posturing for posturing's sake to preserve his ego. Like when he was in the ring with Quillen and kept eating jabs but didnt want to look clueless so he lands one punch and starts fainting and dropping his hands and trying to bait Quillen while hes still out of range. He got some cheers and a little fan support but it didn't change the fact that he landed one punch did a victory dance while not throwing anything for about 20 seconds when he should have been attacking a fighter he had second guessing...
I'm not a fan of either guy, however Rosado could have gotten some work done against quillen if he used his footwork, and faints and counters better. Quillen is as stiff legged as they come...
-
Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
It was a bad play by Rosado all around, because unless you have some substantiating evidence, you're just going to sound like a sore loser. Very bad timing, as I'm sure he gained a lot of fan support coming off a real impressive showing.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
Exactly, stop whining and worry about the good fight you just lost, gun for a rematch, whatever.

The kid comes across as genuine to me but as everyone is pointing out the timing is suspect. Sure he was offered the gloves and refused but as devils advocate conspiracy theorists might claim that was a bluff and it worked since Rosado did not take him up on it.
My problem is that if he had a figurative feeling prior to the fight then he must have had a literal feeling both during and after the fight. They should have made their case at that very moment like when Collins Sr. shook Restos hands after he essentially killed his son. There was ample opportunity to lodge a protest and demand to have the gloves weighed and guts checked. In addition they could have checked the gloves again while they witnessed the hands being wrapped.

I agree, and it's a sad fact but it's a reality that in boxing you really have to be proactive in protecting yourself out there. Because the majority of the athletic commisions are completely useless.
Who's to say how many people use doctored gloves and get away with it? To think, the athletic commision let Resto go out there and nearly kill Collins, and he would have gotten away with it free if it wasn't for Collins Sr shaking Resto's hand. Margarito would have gone out and used illegal wraps on Mosley if it wasn't for Nazeem having a quick eye and spotting it.
Guys need to be much more vigilant in protecting themselves. If you have suspicions about an opponent, get it sorted out before the fight. Don't come out a year later and complain about it.
God knows these A.C's won't protect you.

Shut the fuck up. Whenever he chooses oh yes just wait almost a year and slander him by bring that shit out your ass? GGG Stepped in the ring too and if Rosado had something to say no matter what people say the time was then. Instead he doesnt say shit and only tries to make it a big deal after GGG is doing his thing. And I'm not even a GGG fan I just hate when others boxers try to discredit.
Another thing wtf are you talking about. Mosley went about it the right way with Margarito he saw some shit he did not like and then he called him out. No pussy ass years later "oh hey he was using something i think... " ... The fact that you are on his side is mindless to me.
Makes me wonder if you are even a true boxing fan because if you were you would have seen a bunch a fights where they disagree with handwraps and make the trainer rewrap them and what not.
Nobody says shit cause it's part of the sport. But for a fighter who as I recalled gave praised to GGG after the fight to come out now and say this shit.. lol
Annoying "why now" no fucker. Everyone has to asked WHY NOW... mindless sheep

Exactly if you were that sure going in then you have nobody to blame but yourself and your crew. Personally if I were fighting at this level I would assume my opponent was cheating. Gloves and hand wraps would be at the top of the food chain. I'd have a guy witness the gloves being put on. It would take a set of balls today to tamper with gloves by pulling some lining out and considering the consequences that would follow. Its so much easier to just use chemistry. Having said that if there was cause for concern I'd check anyway.
You are right about the commissions some being much worse then others. Just look at the glove shaving that is allowed. Its sanctioned cheating.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
Usually I don't like to post on a debate like this but nine months without a shred of proof? No one learned a thing from Naseem Richardson I believe is Shane's corner man and trainer? Do not even begin to tell anyone that you did not have a corner man in that room to examine the wrapping and the gloves that were offered to your man and that reason escapes me because all I did was watch the fight. If there was anything wrong with those gloves the way he was catching punches like his face was a catcher's mitt he would have been gone sooner and now he made some serious mistakes in another title shot? I personally know what it is like to get punched but with time I forgot how it felt on me because I promoted myself to being a fan. If what he said is true why wait. It is suspicious not to forget slanderous to say things like this because you won't blame yourself for losing a fight everyone saw you lose? Vanity is the most favorite sin of the devil according to the Pacino movie and vanity has no place in the square just winning and losing. Last but not least there was something in 3G's gloves, his fist.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
Number one, each fighters second should be present when the opposing fighter is being gloved along with a commision staffer. Number two I always asked te ref to feel the opposing fighters gloves prior to the bell.
During a fight water can be added to the hands to assist a plaster type mix to form and thats when your outside the ring people come into effect. When I could I would have people watching our opponents corner prepare for the rest bell and watch their actions during the rest. Other than that I can't think of what else can be done. A fighter can certainly tell if the punch "gain impact" during a fight and again the ref can inspect the glove at any time. Ray.

Of course the second should be in for the wraps and glove fitting. That's their job. If I'm a trainer at the elite level, I am taking over that responsibility. Commission staffers dont know how to properly apply a bandaid and these days are probably to busy on the iphone. The guts from Restos gloves were removed after those parties left the dressing room.

Give me a break. This is not 1922. Nobody is loading wraps with fast drying cement powder and then pouring water into and past the glove wrist line. That's ridiculous. Based on that logic we should be refitting gloves and checking the wraps after every round.
You dont whine and snivel 9 months after a fight. You ask to check the gloves in real time just like Collins Sr did.

Urban legend. Tito's wraps had to do with gauze direction not loading or unloading gloves.

Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
How can you question a pair of gloves that you could have worn if you wanted?
Surely if you tampered with the gloves you would hide them like a rash on your cock?
Stupid.
-
Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
Is there a follow up with this. Is there sometime of investigation with it. I don't think GGG needs to do such a thing and I think Rosado is is just running his mouth. It is a serious accusation against someone especially with recent tragedies in the ring. I would be pissed if I were GGG.
-
Re: Rosado claims 3G tampered with gloves
lol yea like GGG needs extra help to beat Rosado. Rosado is a fuckin crybaby, always with these excuses.
He's a C level fighter..
