Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Saw this was added to the Golovkin-Stevens card! We could use more undefeated heavyweight hopefuls going at it and these two are not getting any younger.
Can this be a quality scrap or will Perez be way too sharp and a notch above? Mago is not hard to miss but if he gets you stationary shame on you.

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Perez has been asleep at the wheel. I'm pulling for him and am confident he will get the ud but who knows how motivated he is. And I agree its nice to see two undefeated up and comers square off.
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Looking forward to this match up, its definately gonna help the winners career. I think Perez could win it though, although I can't see Mago getting knocked out.

Saw Perez one time, never saw the other guy. So, whatever. :p

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
It's an interesting heavyweight matchup. Both are undefeated but neither has been in with a top 25 opponent.
I wouldn't be surprised if either wins. I'm leaning toward Perez by decision or late TKO.
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Should be a UD win for Perez. Hopefully he can get his career back on track.
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Every person ive seen talk about this fight has picked Perez, yet the bookies have Magomed the favourite, what gives? Ive had some of the 13/10 on Perez myself. Seems strange

Bookies are blinded by the 100% ko ratio. They dont really consider the quantity/quality equation in a fight such as this. Half of them probably think Perez is Irish.

He has Irish citizenship ;D
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
If Perez has trained then he's a talented, explosive fighter. But has he trained?
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Interesting fight, hard to pick a winner though. I think Perez can take the decision but can he take Magomed's power?
I'll side with Perez by UD for now just because I think Magomed is one dimensional, stiff, and easy to hit. He's not a bad fighter, but he has some flaws that Perez should be able to take advantage of

Its down to Perez looking pretty average in his last few. Ill be waiting to see the weighin before I have a wager

He's been a real let down for me so far. A lazy chronic underachiever and I don't use that term as a rule. The sad irony for me as a fan is that he could have easily been in the top 5 by now and he's not even in the top 15. He's got about as much raw ambition as a communist factory worker. I'm taking him to win the ud just to be safe but he should blitz Magomed out and try to make a statement. He's fighting the Russian Wilder. And he's supposed to be the pro Felix Savon. Time to show us.
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Not only the bookies who are blinded by Mago's 100% ko ratio...couldn't look at anything else when putting the picks down for the prediction contest. Perez could do with stepping up to the mark big time.

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Perez has the skills to pay the bills
But Magomed may strike his head
and send him packing over the hills
without a bundle of soda bread
Over the hills and far away
Mike seems to have just lost his way
A fine pedigree that could go far
If not for the Whiskey in the Jar
Them Irish Girls there eyes are sweet
but they won't keep you on your feet
I still believe that fight's not over
And Perez won't need the four leaf clover
We will all find out tomorrow night
If Perez has come to really fight
if not then Magomed will get the shout
and Mike can drown his grief with stout

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
For me this was the most enjoyable fight in the HW'S since Tua v Ibeabuchi , both would beat fury and Haye , really good fight from two brave fighters.
Perez has huge natural talent and a rock chin.
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
perez has been marking time since he came to ireland,he should have had 1 or 2 world title fights by now ,has his handlers no ambitions for mikes talents or is he going to be an old man before he steps into the ring for a title fight

Rewatching now brother and its one of the best hev battles in years.

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Very impressed with what these two showed and gave the fans, no quit, no bs and solid hard knocks. Mago had to have a fracture from the 1st round, Perez put it all together and has some nice hands. I look at a padded protected guy like Wilder literally handed a title oppurtunity by beating up tomato cans and hyped up power and then you watch two undefeated guys take REAL uncertain challenges and adversity and see how glass a trinket really is.
-
There was more action in the first 50 seconds than all 12 rnds of some HW fights. They both put it on the line and reminded you of what a heavyweight fight can be like. Perez is very light on his feet for a big guy and it will be interesting to see how far his new found dedication will take him.

And a world class chin. I hope this is the start of what I've been waiting for. Props to that Russian. Talk about heart and true grit.

Totally agree.
The Klitschko era has dulled the senses, and made us forget how exciting the division can be.

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Great fight, much much better than the earlier Towers Browne fight. (mainly due to Towers reluctance to actually come and fight)
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Watched it live last night and again today, what a excellent fight:appl: HW at there best
please some one retire the klits Brothers, the most boring HW's to grace or screens.:vd:

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
It's a shame the fight is marred by the the big fella being seriously injured. Hopefully he recovers.
He got $40,000 for that, Perez $30,000. Wlad and Povetkin carved up $23million.
Boxing is a ridiculous sport/business.

Damn man. Hindsight might be 20/20 but that almost looks criminal.

Not too sure about beating Haye, he's certainatly capable of beating Fury but would need to box clever or rusk bring spoiled.
Bit lacking in footwork, no real lateral movement to speak of in this fight and you need to have that to neutralise a tall fighter like Fury and be able to match or cope with it from a guy like Haye.
I can see Perez holding a belt but there's a few things he needs to improve upon, seems to get by on strength and raw talent but at the top level it's not gonna do alone

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Boxing the most magnificent fights unfortunately, can end in tragedy it's a sad fact, we are
reminded this sport is dangerous, my heart goes out to Abdusalamov and his family.
Remember this sport is carried out by people, that are professional and all in all nobody dreams
they will get hurt, thank goodness it is very rare theses days.
This fight was extremely hard on both fighters, both took heavy punishment perhaps sometimes
the corner men let, there fighters take a beating I can think of many fights I've seen this happen
past and present.!!!:(

Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
@AdamGB you know the way you throw a combination without thinking about it or show a client how to execute a deadlift without having to consciously go through each segment of the lift in your head ?
That's because you use your body every day.
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
It was an ok fight for Perez. I had no idea on who would win the fight, having not seen Magomed, but it was a good scrap with some reasonably skilled fighters.
Magomed looked a little soft. Kept on checking his face for damage, and in fact he was damaged, but overreacted to the nature of it. But, it wasn't me taking the punishment.
Wouldn't mind seeing either of them again with better opposition. The fights are out there. Hopefully the guys are innocuous enough to bait some of the other contenders out there, ASIDE FROM Seth Mitchell, into a fight for something meaningful.

So you're saying that you post terrible poetry without even knowing about it because you use your linguistic mind everyday? ??? ;)
-
No I am saying your Brain is shrinking and you need to lighten up you dull, joyless, individual.
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
I see my mind and body as one and yes, take great joy in physical expression, not your poetry... but thanks for trying. :)
Now go and play with your head mind.

Look nobody except you called it poetry and nobody but you had to be such a condescending dick about it. I get it, you decide the format and we all follow your rules ?
WTF does get out mean ?
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Plenty of people would call rhyming verses 'poetry'. Aesthetic Literary Art? I'm pretty sure that's the EXACT definition? ??? I'm failing to see the problem or the offence with that classification, I had no idea that you were so highly strung, what should I call it to avoid offending you?
Judging by your gargantuan overreaction, 'get out' means (to answer your question) a lot more than the playful dig I though it was.
I didn't mean to insult your 'not'poetry, just a bit of banter... You put it out there, I don't really know what you expected from a boxing forum.
This discussion is bizzare to say the least...
-
Re: Mike Perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov
Boxing is an art form. It is also a sport and entertainment, I see no incongruity. Stop trying to reduce everything. You are projecting a load of bollocks. A ? question mark is hardly a gargantuan over reaction. As for highly strung, again I think you are inferring content that is not there.
