Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
It's a very good line up, no doubt about that. I reckon Toney gasses himself getting a win in the first round. And then just needs to be pushed over in the second fight as he is so exhausted. Larry Olubamiwo looking for redemption after the drugs ban, I wonder what he'll look like without the use of steroids? Personally I reckon Sam Sexton wins, although I dislike him as a fighter. Wonder who the eighth fighter will be?

Are you saying the tournament is going to tank? ;)

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
What a waste...
Why not a Toney/Minto 12 round main event backed up with Sexton/Olubamiwo over 10, and the rest in supporting six rounders?
A proper nights boxing, without an exhibition bout (let alone seven) in sight.
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Sam Sexton has pulled out due to an injory.
That leaves six, they'll need to find two more.

Shouldn't we be glad to get as few of rounds as possible from this lot? Lol

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
I listened to a recent interview on youtube with James Toneys advisor/manager/whatever John "Pops" Arthur and he said that they have also had an offer to fight in early December in England if the tournament doesnt happen for him for whatever reason.
Could that be Hearn offering him a fight if this falls through? Maybe Hennesey offering him a fight with Hughie Fury?

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
There's been some changes to the lineup, BoxRec hasn't updated them all yet.
Michael Sprott and Ian Lewison are in (Lewison's fight with McDermott is off).
Sam Sexton and Sherman Williams are out.

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Not a great line-up and to be honest prizefighter has gone past it's sell by date

I reckon Prizefighter is still a feather in the cap of younger fighters, and could boost their profile, but when it's a bunch of guys who are either really old or novices, it doesn't offer much. Put Joshua in there and let him knock em all out.
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Man, it pains me to watch JT fight anymore.

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
It's more of a joke that Larry Olubamiwo is in it than Toney. However, I'll be watching. It's a good event if you like a few small bets. At least they didn't waste a Saturday date with it.

The understatement of the year!
The gimmick 'jumped the shark' the moment Willard got to Johnson...;)

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Well, that line up is even less impressive than the original. Is it on Wednesday that it's on? I'll be working, but I might sky plus it for some late evening viewing.

Sprott for me, this type of thing suits him, you heard it here first.

It's on Thursday Nov 14.

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Im wondering whether Toney will be given the weakest fighter first so he stays in the tournament longer.
Would be a bit dissapointing for all the people who have bought tickets because it has a name in it to see that name out early. They do t care who he fits, they just want to see him in action.
I agree, Sprott will do well unless he gets caught. He was nailed in the first in his last fight.
-

Prize Fighter- Whale hunting edition! with James Toney.
A sick joke! Wont be watching.

Who do you feel is the weakest in the tournament?

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Toney shouldn't be fighting anybody! Pretty abysmal lineup, but I guess that's the norm for these. It's definitely fun TV, I like the format. If Damian Wills is half decent, which his record suggests, he could be a sleeper pick considering they are 4 rounders. Nobody else is any good at all.
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
This line-up is shocking. I don't even know who the fuck Damien Wills is but his face reminds me of Joan Guzman's. That's about the best form on offer.
Early bookies prices have him at 8/1. That'll do.

What are the odds on Lewison should he be used as a sub? Didn't he just beat Dallas ? I could see him winning on fitness alone.

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
why is everyone so negative
what else are you gonna watch on a thursday? emerdale? corry?
i honestly cant remember a better thursday night viewing since united was last in the europa league and even then it probably wasnt better
im really looking forward to it, im gonna get some beers and sit down and watch some boxing and have a few bets
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Good shout that. On paper Ian Lewison shouldn't be a sub. Either reserve is best best priced at 16/1 with Ladbrokes.

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Boxing News | Interview: James Toney
Toney should have his license taken away immediately. The change in his speech from when he was a middleweight is horrific.
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
He sounds really bad, and whats worse seems to honestly still believe what he says:-\ I don't know anything about standard medical procedures, is there a maximum amount of brain atrophy one can have while getting licenced? He will be an absolute vegetable by old age, must still need the money.
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Round one:
James Toney - Matt Legg
Damian Wills - Michael Sprott
Brian Minto - Tom Little
Jason Gavern - Larry Olubamiwo
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
Toney weighs in at 217lb and his opponent may be the weakest of the bunch and only 6.2" so as good a start as he could of hoped for in the comp.

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
That draw's not rigged much. Jesus...
It's only £32,000 to the winner. If Toney wins he'll probably land himself a bigger money fight against a UK prospect (:-\)

As rigged as the draw may be they would all still have to face each other to get to the final.
Toney still has to start faster than usual and at his age it will be difficult. Imagine Hopkins in one of these. Hed lose to a 6 fight novice on workrate.
Depends on whether the judges will apreciate the fact that Toney is making his opponent miss, even though his opponent will probably throw more.
In my eyes its not a formality Toney wins his fight and progresses because of the workrate. Iv got a feeling he may realise this too late.

Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
i heard that olibamewo had all his wins taken off him coz he admitted drugs during those fights
will he be announced as having a record of 0 and 15 or whatever
-
Re: Prizefighter: The International Heavyweights Nov 14
I don't give Toney a hope in hells of winning. They've done their best to get 6 rounds instead of 3 for their dough though.
