World Boxing News - Report: Floyd Mayweather v Amir Khan 'finalised' for May 3
I saw it on another site so maybe its true. I don't know how I feel about this. Khan definitely doesn't deserve it so I know its a business move. I guess I don't know who should be the one to fight him at 147. Showtime is going to want to make their money so I understand it because Khan does have a following. But what does this do for Mayweather? Its purely no reward except the money. Not that that should be overlooked. I guess I would do the same. I guess I would be okay with it if they are just waiting for a developing and we get something megafight like in September. Kind of like Guerrero then Canelo. Maybe Khan then Garcia.
Mismatch.
Floyd will win by KO.
Agreed. @jehoshaphat The interesting thing about this fight is that for once in his career Khan is not fighting a puncher/brawler type. Judah was long past it. Its a perfect fight for his attributes to shine. I thought Floyd might go to England for this which would have been great. I'm not saying he's going to win or anything but its a nice style mix if you enjoy a boxing match every now and then.
Not at all surprised, it's a mismatch but will be interesting to watch for a bit. Khan has as big a profile as anyone Floyd hasn't already beat below 160, Garcia could use another fight or two to build himself up and that's about all she wrote.
Yeah, and who is there left that can help carry a million plus PPV? They have to build Danny up or look up in weight. I really want to see who is going to develop in these last few fights. If Cotto beats Canelo then we have a worthy rematch available. Especially if its a clear victory.
May is a long way away? Do they plan on something before that. I just don't see the waiting helping Khan let alone what he'll face in the ring. A big case of whatever you can do I can do better and I'll be shocked if Khan makes it to the late rounds. He's not 'out boxing or out speeding' Mayweather, he's just not. Fast accurate punching will do a number on Khans circuits and psyche.
I actually think this is a dangerous fight because Khan has nothing to lose and Mayweather can only gain money from this. The match up isn't a walk in the park. Mayweather is going to have to hurt Khan so he has to sit down on his punches at least in good spots. But I do enjoy a pure boxing match so either way I myself will like it but I understand I'm not in the majority.
Not surprised either. Mismatch is a little strong my friend imo for this particular encounter if you consider the strong points of each guy. Sure Khan has a dodgy chin but so did Hearns and Ray never ran out there and tried to plug it and I dont see Floyd being overly aggressive either. I think it could resemble that fight a little over the first few rounds.
Ugh. What a fucking waste.
The P4P #1 should be fighting higher ranked opposition than Mr. Khan.
This would have been a great fight a few years back, before Khan hit his skid.
I agree that in theory it's a bad style for Floyd, but Khan is no Tommy Hearns. It doesn't look like he can take a punch from anyone these days, and he doesn't really fight smart enough to be effective for very long here imo. He's pretty inaccurate with the jab against sitting targets, Floyd will counter the hell out of him over it.
Lol I know. I just dont think its going to be the blow out that people view it as. I think Khan will have his moments. It would be funny or rather ironic if Khan because of styles gave Floyd more trouble then others did even though I see him stopped mid to late also.
I'll believe it when I see it. Floyd can't be this foolish as to think that this is an acceptable fight.
Khan would have no chance what so ever. NONE.
Bum fight for Floyd. Khan has speed but nothing else.
Floyd by KO in total domination.
I disagree that Khan doesn't deserve it.
Depends how you look at it.
From a skill standpoint he definitely deserves it.
From a results standpoint he doesn't.
Most importantly, from an excitement standpoint he's 100% box office gold, he is exciting to watch, which is partly why his current form isn't great, he gets involved in brawls, which is brave for a guy with a questionable chin.
Look at the Klitschkos fighting guys like Pianeta and stuff, who clearly doesn't deserve it, but Khan is a few times world champion so it's not the most far fetched fight.
This is a great fight and I can't wait to see it. Will khan win no chance but he will do better than Canelo and Guerrero that's for sure. Khans hands are faster and he's going to land shots on floyd, I expect khan to take a few rounds early on. I also expect to see floyd stop khan but it will pretty even I think up to the half way point. Also everyone saying this fight is shit who else under 154 is going to do shit against floyd ? No one only pacman and khan have a chance with floyd only people who can trouble floyd is people with speed.
I cannot believe how gullible some fans are by making a case for this fight. It is a joke and boxing at its worst.
They are going to carry Khan in the ring and cover him in cotton wool before the first bell in case he falls over and hits his chin and knocks himself out and thereby losing millions of dollars to the teams and hanger ons
And we agree on something Master! lol
Well poppa Mayweather is not a fan of Khan and has publicly told people he wants his son to shut his mouth once and for all. Khan has possibly talked himself into a fight with Mayweather pretty much the same way Tarver got himself a fight with RJJ. I'm not gonna lie I have never been a fan of Khan and think he is an overrated fighter that does not deserve a fight with Money and should at least fight a real contender at Welterweight before May. Brook vs Khan should be made for the winning lotto ticket. And Garcia vs Alexander for September spot.
Lol at the dread.
Look "styles make fights" and although that boxing maxim may be overused by certain pundits at times nothing is more clear in this case. I'd wager that Khan lands more on Floyd then anyone that came before him and I'm talking clean shots. Now bookmark this thread until May and that way we can revisit it on the 4th.
Yea i agree most on your list are better than khan but against floyd khan would do better than all off them. garcia has no hope in hell of ever giving floyd a decent fight it would be a shut out. broner is supposed to be good mates with floyd and broners not as dumb as he makes out so he will stay well clear of floyd. Alvarez 2 really ? im shocked you even said his name. cotto 2 i honestly dont get what people seen in the 1st fight floyd was in complete control the whole fight. brook and alexander are the only two on your list that i think khans better than. khans a better fight to watch than all them i think he will seriously give floyd his hardest fight in years.
I'm sure this is a business move and I doubt anybody is saying Khan deserves. Remember we can't just think with our fan caps. Showtime does have a say in this. They need to try to turn a profit so Alexander and Alvarez 2 are out. Broner keeps saying he won't fight Floyd and Garcia and his dad recently stated they weren't going to move up to 147 and that they have enough money not to rush to 147. Cotto 2 is the ideal fight. I don't know what kind of following Brook has. If you try to take in all factors on who deserves it AND is a draw AND will fight at Floyd at or around 147 then the pickings are slim. Very slim. Cotto is probably the only guy who can cover those and even that would probably have to be above 150.
You are much to kind. And just because some of those guys might beat Khan with one already doing so does not mean that they would do better against Floyd then Khan would.
Brook-Let me know when he removes his nutsack from the night stand on the way to work sometime.
So far he's all show and no go. He's got no excuse not to fight Alexander although Hearn did mention venue problems right after his last fight lol. Brook should go wherever to make that fight or change his name to Special Case. From what I have seen Floyd has an easier time with him then Khan.
Alexander-Him and Floyd are never going to fight. If they did it would look a lot like the Judah fight with Devon watching Floyd rather then fighting him.
Cotto- I'm in the minority but I think Floyd let Cotto into that fight when he wanted to. He was about to go away for awhile and wanted to make a statement that he could rough it up. On a couple of occasions it almost looked like Floyd steered him to the corner. Next time it looks like the Alvarez fight.
Alvarez-Why? The money?
Broner- Yikes. Like watching Pep and Locche go at it. And lets be honest. Broner would rather sleep with Floyd then fight him.
Garcia- I think he's the most deserving but I'm not sure whether he'd be anymore successful with Floyd then Khan would be.
I'm no Khan fanboy and tbh think him a bit of a tool but I think his strengths with height, reach and speed in something other then a brawl play better against Floyd then anyone mentioned above.
Garcia or cotto rematch.
Bradley deserves floyd but with top rank.
Khan barely beat an 8 years out of prime lightweight.
Khan does have speed and uk fans so perhaps from a business side thats why this fight will happen if it does happen.
Will Khan have a fight before Floyd? If he loses, which is always possible with Khan it would make this fight worse than it already is.
Here's the kicker for me, you may of course tar and feather me out of the forum for saying this :P Khan is fast, fleet on his and throws a lot of straight punches. Floyd isn't packing TNT in his gloves either as far as the issue of khan's chin is concerned. I think Styles Make Fights and this one might be more difficult for Floyd than Cotto or Alveraz ever was due to the way Khan fights rather then those twos skills or lack there of.
That comment is what everyone who likes mayweather is worried about and theres truth in what you say, but i will counter that and mention khans last fight.
Plus, imagine khan against cotto.
Perhaps moving to 147 will be a turning point for khan and it was the low weight all along that proved to be his downfall in taking punches.
Perhaps he beats mayweather and goes on to be one of the greatest welterweights we have seen which would be great for boxing and the uk.
Perhaps virgil has toned down khan and hes not so gung ho anymore and perhaps he takes his time with his workrate.
I just still see his last fight. And even though i wish him all the sucess in the world im more annoyed that other fighters dont get the chance like bradley or garcia regardless of promoters..it stinks.
Floyd has usually fought fighters coming of wins but i think he will put his promotor hat on to fight khan as its bound to be the most money.
Either way, as a fan im hoping for garcia or bradley, and wont be impressed if its khan but i also realise khans speed is an issue for anyone...but his punch resistance is not.
The only guys Mayweather should be looking at at 147 are Bradley, Garcia, Broner (if he gets past Maidana), Pacquiao (if he gets past Rios), Thurman (if he gets past Soto Karass)
Then you have the likes of Alexander or Khan
Relative to the p4p #1 in the sport, this is a shit opponent.
