Mikey Garcia vs. Juan Carlos Burgos is done for Jan 25th 2014 on HBO

Apparently Arum has told Ring TV that the deal is complete for Mikey to make his first defence against Burgos. Not an easy fight for Garcia but I expect him to win it well.

Decent fight, but not exactly a pick em, I think Garcia might blast him out in fact. Burgos is really good, but I doubt he hits hard enough to take Garcia out, and doesn't seem to follow a gameplan or anything. He'll box really well off the backfoot early and then come out with a Kid thunder approach once he's tired, could be why he's had nothing but close fights lately. I think Garcia is on another level and beats him either way.

Im very excited for this fight! Long before this fight was even on the radar, as a big fan of Burgos, I always wondered if he'd ever get a shot at Mikey cuz knowing it was a matter of time before they fought in the same division..

Garcia is on a hot streak but Burgos is not somebody to take lightly. He sure aint no bumass Rocky martinez let's make that clear. Burgos has all angles covered and he can do it all..

I like the way Arum is guiding Garcia's career.. He isn't pushing him into the wolves but he's not babying him either.. He's taking the proper steps and it's only right for him to fight guys like Burgos at this stage of his career..

Arum doesn't give you the most competative fights though. Top Rank baby their fighters too long and build up to fights you want to see before leaving it too long so the fight ends up past its sell by date.

JuanMa Lopez vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa is a prime example. JuanMa was guided way too long until a 50-50 fight in some people's eyes was never made and became a total mismatch.

Kelly Pavlik was hailed a a Middleweight killer but other than Taylor, he never really beat a top Middleweight.

Chavez Jr. is another one.

Then look at who Mikey is beating to become a 2 weight world champion. Rocky Martinez. How he was a 2 time champion I'll never know.

To me these fights are conning the public. I much prefer the way Golden Boy does things with their sink or swim attitude towards prospects.

Garcia should take it wide but if there is anyone who can find holes and upset the best layed plans, its Burgos.

Have 3-1 Jennings, picking spots and tempo. Szpilka doesn't use southpaw to his advantage that much at all. Just got wobbled at the bell Szpilka did

spilka has a bit of a weird style :S he seems to like leaving his hands low but he isnt that good at dodging things... i am not surprised he has been knocked down so many times before.... good fight so far.. i have jennings up by 1.... but that doesnt mean much :S

I don't see the fuss with Mikey. They are overrating him big time. He's good, but they're making him out to be the second coming and I don't think he's that great. He thinks he's top ten p4p too which is just deluded.

Personally I think the talk of Garcia doing a stream line to 140 etc is crazy. His hips look just as wide as his shoulders ffs, and he is slow here

Burgos was a 12-1 underdog at this one site which I thought was ludacrious so I had to put a lil something on him..

Garcia has had his way from the 3rd round on. Burgos looking to time it out and survive, hope on a brick. Garcia is...patient...to say the least. They are now talking about Tyson going the distance with Green and Smith early in career :reporter::tumbleweed: 118-110 ish I'm thinking. Crowd boos in part last couple rounds. Not a statement fight for Garcia, but workmanlike

If they do what Kellerman says and put him in with Manny soon he'll get sparked. Garcia is a solid fighter with good footwork but he doesn't look like he'll dominate at higher weights than he's at.

Garcia looked great he completely outclassed Burgos.

I like mikey and was hoping he'd be the one to put a whoopin on broner one day but maidana took care of that. I really think mikey shouldn't steer north of 135 anytime in the foreesable future no need for it I think. This was a boring fight but mikey did what he wanted and he's extremely cerebral so I don't think he cares as long as he gets the w

I agree! I don't think Mikey worries about KOs, he just just does what it takes to win. If a KO happens, that's great too.

Burgos turned out to be Garcia's toughest opponent in some ways. I think Garcia should stay in this weight class for a while, or at the least, not go above 135.
