Do you think we'll ever see Floyd get old overnight in the ring?

It's happened to many and I bet nobody saw superman Roy going out the way he did..

What are the chances of this happening to floyd and do you have his Kryptonite in mind?

That's a good question. I don't think so.
Floyd is smart, shrewd, a gym rat and very attuned to his body. He is also very concerned with his legacy, so I don't think he'll ignore any warning signs his body will give him.
Of course, as we all know, if any fighter hangs around too long his chances of suffering a defeat climb rapidly. I just think Floyd knows his body and won't take a chance.

Well, in Roy's case, coming back down to fight at LH after he ballooned to make HW was part of the problem. The rematch was too soon with Tarver, if you ask me... I actually gave Roy the third fight.

Floyd is smarter than that. Floyd would probably never go back and have two fights back to back at Jr. Welter against a guy that can punch. Floyd won't rematch anyone again... regardless of the situation... and certainly not back to back...

With that said, getting old for Floyd won't be "seen" as we have seen it with Roy or some of the other fighters.

Floyd treats his body like a temple and takes very little punishment in the ring, for that reason I doubt he'll get old overnight and even if he felt that way he would simply retire.

People always compare Roy and Floydd but Pac and Roy are more comparable. The both rely on speed, reflexes and power. They get away with mistakes early in their career because people are tentative about said speed and power. Floyd is more like Hop relying on knowing what the person will do next, switching from dictating to reacting but always knowing through spacial awareness.

You don't stop knowing what people are going to do as you get older, that's why Hop and Floyd both have stayed top level as they've aged. People don't even notice how drastically they've dropped off physically. And the physical erosion has been precipitous. But the knowledge covers. Floyd and Hop both take very strict care of their bodies so their bodies won't suddenly betray them.

Manny could get old overnight because if he slows all his flaws will be exposed. If Floyd slows more he can just start lowering his head when he throws the straight and throw less check hooks and more lead hooks after jabbing to the body more. Problem solved.

I have to second what most people said, I think Floyd is much more in tune with his mind and body, ala Bhop, than a Roy Jones.

I understand the comparisons between Floyd and Roy, both being insanely gifted virtuosos, but I think Floyd is a different animal. In my eyes, Floyd has been declining ever so gradually over the last few years, but what makes Floyd a true great (probably the greatest) is that he's successfully adapted and changed to suit his slowly declining physical attributes. We've seen him start being much more economic with his movement, staying in the pocket more and minimizing energy expenditure, now that he doesn't have the legs he once did.

Like someone else pointed out, Floyd is much more comparable to Bhop, in that he's not a guy who relies on insane speed and reflexes. He's a ring genius who wins by being 5 steps ahead of his opponent. So I don't think we're likely to see a sudden crash like he did with RJJ.

I think floyed already got old over night. He has slowed down down a lot doesn't move around the whole ring he use to. Its just hard to tell cuz he counters and times so perfectly and really makes people think about coming in cuz they will pay. But with the way he trains and maintains his body I doubt he'll get any slower for about 3 more years but by then I don't see him coming back unless he needs the money 😳.

Nah, it won't be abrupt. It's actually already been slowly under way for maybe 2 years.
Floyd doesn't have the same speed and reflexes and stamina as a few years back.
He looks good, very disciplined to keep himself in magnificent condition all these years, but who knows the real state of his body after so many years in an extremely strenuous contact sport. Boxers are trained to conceal injuries.

His superior technical expertise will allow him to continue to compete.
It's textbook stuff, he's very well-schooled.

If a guy has that part down and he's a boxer type, then it makes for longevity even after the physical prime has passed.

Roy and Floyd were both physical marvels of speed and reflexes, but Roy didn't have the technical skills to fall back on when his athleticism and speed eroded: Floyd does.

I hope he will but doubt it. He will get his 50 and 0 and retire for good.

No because his 0 is so important to him. He'll retire before he fades

Only if it's against some insane pressure fighter who can cut the ring off well or vs a huge power puncher. So basically if he was to fight a prime Duran or prime Hearns then yeah but that's not going to happen.

I mean no insult to anyone who says it, I simply want to alert people to how flawed a statement is and thereby stupid.

Saying Floyds 0 is important to him is beyond dumb. I get that it sucks hating on a guy that hasn't lost. But not losing has been important to every great fighter ever.

After people lose their goals change but don't get it twisted, not losing is always the goal.

Good points, nothing to add about Mayweather. I don't think even Roy got old "overnight" though. He'd already slowed some before he even moved up to HW to fight Ruiz, not a lot, but it was there. For me the Richard Hall fight was the last time he was really the same freaky athlete he'd been for the previous decade.

Dropping back down to 175 probably did take a lot out of him, but for instance, I think he looked better in the rematch with Tarver for a round and a half than he had the entire first fight which he clearly won imo. He just got caught with a huge punch, that could have happened even before he moved up to HW, at least imo. Once he'd been knocked out like that it obviously put the fear in him, the Glen Johnson fight is probably still the worst he has ever looked, was more of a mental thing imo.

Actually roy did go to shit after that loss.. my point is, no one predicted that he would get KO'd in that fashion.
