I think the numbers and commentary speak for themselves. I am curious to see what some of you make of it.

The important things always left out is that wealth is not finite nor a zero sum game. One person gaining in wealth does note equate or necessitate one person losing wealth.

So this clown thinks that people asking for wealth distribution to be ratcheted back to how it was forty years ago is the modern equivalent of the Holocaust?

Further proof of how truly simple you are. It's little use arguing with you because no matter how fucking stupid you are you'll always claim to be right.
He compared OWS to Kristelnacht, not The Holocaust you fucking simp. Just how dumb are you? If you don't understand the difference between the two then may God help you because you're far dumber than most

Re: US inequality of wealth....shocking statistics
Inequality does need to be tacked in a fair and just society. People need to be provided the opportunites to move on in life and be a real part of society. Education, training and employment are ways to progress for the lower class citizens.

I would argue that the rich have the issue with this. They want their billions to go to their offspring and I disagree. It should all be taken away. In the end you are all equal again, so Paris Hilton, do what you can because if I'm in charge, there is no inheritance. If you haven't earned it, then we are taking it away from you. If your father hides the money away, then we will investigate as that will be illegal and you will become a normal person. Shoulda a studied at school, eh or become a high flight hooker.

If the outcomes are even more inequality then the opportunities may not be there.

so we want the government to solve this problem. Inequality of wealth is defined by someone making more than you.

It does not have to end there.
People who have access to better education, health and job opportunities maintain those and their children are likely to become the next judges, doctors and businessmen with relative ease. The same opportunities need to be made available for people that do not have easy access to them.

I just have very little faith in the government fixing things especially after they play a large part in creating them.

Governments have allowed it to continue, their job is to create these opportunities by opening up these institutions.

Re: US inequality of wealth....shocking statistics
Walrus, your government is so incredibly corrupt, that nothing it says will work will actually work. We are at the point where the systems are useless and where only civil disobediance is going to kick start any changes. Basically people need to get bloody noses and arrests. It's the only way. If not then it continues unrelenting until we are all suffocated on this planet one way or another.

Re: US inequality of wealth....shocking statistics
No it doesn't! We pour money into shitty inner city schools and have affirmative action to give children at risk a great chance at succeeding but there's still a gap....not my problem man

Re: US inequality of wealth....shocking statistics
Close to 300 millionaire senators. About 300 people having more cash then 300 million others combined. Government's in the west have lost touch. Its like they are a totally different species. Canada is just as bad. At least US senators are elected. Harper is a gimp. The response from his office a week ago after yet another rail disaster was "we will discuss this emergency once parliament resumes next week"

I don't disagree with your views but you point out our government when this corruption and wealth gap is worldwide. I do disagree with your views on inheritance taxes. That money has already been taxed throughout someone's lifetime. If they choose to leave it to family so be it. How many times do we need the government getting its hands at someone's money.
I do know when I was bringing home a small paycheck due to the level of work I was doing I never blamed the government. I found much of my abilities to be self fulfilling.

In your own country it is expanding at ridiculous rates. Other countries are bad, but the US has super rich people that basically control the globe. It's rather sick.
If it is worldwide, it is because of the Chicago school of economic corruption and their wonderful ability to wipe out entire nations fiscally. America is following the trends and the only thing stopping it becoming Greece is the Don mentality and a military.

Yes, I'm so dumb I spend all day in my mother's basement playing video games and surfing the internet. Oh wait.
So this guy is comparing the freedom of speech of a section of society who are advocating a return of 1970s era wealth distribution policies to a precursor event of the Holocaust. And it's Kristallnacht.

Re: US inequality of wealth....shocking statistics
And it says
"One person gaining in wealth does note [sic] equate or necessitate one person losing wealth."
And that's true. Total wealth keeps increasing in capitalist economic systems. And that's a great thing. The problem comes when all that wealth accrues to just a small percentage of the total population. That's when the economy becomes unbalanced and ceases to function well, the situation we have now.

Wealth isn't finite though. So if you agree with the quoted part then you should also agree that you can raise the wages/wealth of one level w/o lowering anothers. The appropriate policy discussions for how to get lower and middle class increased wealth/wages would be for these groups to put more value on not going to prison, not having children to they are ready, education, acquiring job skills, saving money, financial planning and deferred gratification but blaming wealthy people and creating a victim mentality sells better for the polls.

You can't just create wealth out of nothing. Even if you print money (in normal economic conditions, current situation not remotely normal) you just devalue it. Wealth is earned by increased economic activity and productivity. That wealth is then distributed through the economic system. And if it's distributed very unequally, like it is currently, it leads to a fucked up economic system, like we have now.

Excuse me, but I'm kind of fuzzy on the whole "fucked up economic system"....could you be specific about what exactly is "fucked up" other than Rich people have money and Poor people don't? because it looks like that's your argument and well....that's really fucking weak

I never claimed you can create wealth out of nothing but you also don't create it through redistribution efforts.

Well you have the zero lower bound, billions of dollars of quantative easing, the central bank balance sheet quadrupling overnight and being filled with assorted toxic crap making it look like the balance sheet of some third world central bank, all the biggest banks are zombie banks being kept alive with a massive amount of central bank liquidity, massive demand shortfall in the real economy coupled with a lack of credit, massive business overcapacity, significant long term unemployment with all the future problems that brings, over 90% of the economic revovery since 2008 going to the top 1% when over 75% of the economic recovery 1929-46 went to the bottom 50%, and so on.
And to top it all the authorities are trying to get out of the mess with much the same policies that created the mess in the first place.

You don't need to. Redistributing national income more equitably means you get a balanced stable economy with no huge economic creshes, mass unemployment etc.
