Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
Maybe they heard that Martinez' knee isnt that bad after all...
Knowing how he pulled the same stunt on Margarito, this isnt surprising..
What the heck is 159 ?
-
I don't see how this has any effect other than saddening me. I hope the details of the negotiations stop coming out because the bits that have come out seem so diva.
Holding it up over the name that comes first, why, it will sell either way?
Holding it up over one pound, why, when neither struggles to make weight?
If Cotto comes in to the ring last I'm going to lose a little respect for him, only a little but I don't want to lose any

Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
I lost respect when he started crying on HBO faceoff , going far as to pulling out his Ipad to reach for an evidence that dont exist... he was like trying desperately to prove that margarito's gauge didnt look right poo hoo lol.. I understand how devastating it is to lose your first fight but dam take the loss like a man and stop looking for excuses!
He's a crybaby.. no wonder Tito is closer to Juanma.. there is no room for crying business in boxing.
-
Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
how is cotto a crybaby? he has had a tough road and hasnt really complained much at all other than against your lover margarcheato. anyways, martinez is small for a middleweight anyways so the 1 pound wont be a factor.

Finito, criticizing a fighter like Cotto who has fought the best throughout his career for doing a catchweight and crying on TV makes you look like an idiot when you're defending a proven cheater in the same post. Margarito is a scumbag for doing what he did, and his reason for attempting it is down to lack of belief in his own ability to beat the best.

Margarito got caught with substances in his glove against Mosley, not Cotto.. He's innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
And to clear things up, this whole plaster controversy was so overblown it's not even funny.. There were traces of substance, we are talking about a pinch of powder so all these talks of him carrying bricks and brass knuckles are rubbish..
They didnt have any concrete evidence to convict margarito..

Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
Seeing such bitterness out of an adolescent breaks my heart. Cotto has had a great career and is headed for the HOF. Margarito is a convicted cheater, and is probably telling his stories while serving fries at a Tijuana McDonalds.
Accept it and move on.

why is it so bad? cotto is a small 154 pounder and martinez is a small 160 pounder. at 159, cotto is still giving up quite a bit of weight and an extra pound isnt going to make much of a difference. martinez has always stated that he could fight at 154 if the fight was right. remember that he stayed at 160 because he was the champion. he wanted to move back down in weight.

You summed it up perfectly by saying "an extra poud isn't going to make much of a difference."
It's going to make absolutely no difference. It's just a cheap ploy to throw off Martinez's normal routine and make him extra miserable trying to adjust for that one pound. It's a ploy that Manny used on Cotto. It's bullshit, bush-league gamesmanship
Enough with the fucking catchweights. You can't fight a guy at his weight, don't challenge him. But a minus one lb catchweight? Cotto should be ashamed of himself.
-
How much money you get, the kind of trash talking you do, and especially what you do in the ring is where the real respect comes from, in my opinion.
You guys are arguing with each other about a pound that everyone says doesn't matter.
Ali was disrespectful. Broner is disrespectful.
Martinez and Cotto are having a difference of opinion about the main course for lunch in comparison.

Nice to see they got the reaction they wanted.

Cotto should be bitch slapped for trying to get a 159 catchweight. That's the lamest condition I've ever heard for a fight. I thought 2lbs was bad… this is just some f*ggot bullshit.
And people shit on Floyd for demanding Olympic-style drug testing? Something that actually matters? Yeesh.
I've always liked Cotto but I hope Martinez takes this and knocks him out Paul Williams style in the first round.

You're a fucking moron.
You keep saying Margarito hadn't been "caught" cheating before the Mosley fight. So by THAT rational you're saying Panama Lewis didn't give Aaron Pryor anything illegal when he fought Arguello and Lewis called for "the black bottle, the one I mixed"
Luis Resto also disclosed that Lewis would break apart pills used to treat asthma and pour the medicine into his water bottles, giving Resto greater lung capacity in the later rounds of a fight
But you were saying you ignorant little shitstain????

Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
159 don't mean sh-t! Sergio came up from 154 anyway & doesn't seem to have any trouble making 160
-
Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
Maybe I don't know much about boxing but one pond doesn't seem that bad to me. Isn't that stuff part of the game these days. Floyd uses it every time he fights. I don't know, one pound may mess up the routine but I don't think it would be major. If I am completely wrong could someone explain it to me.
-
Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
Don't you love catchweights
-
Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
The heaviest Martinez has ever fought was 159.5... and that only happened twice.
0.5 lb don't mean shit. End of debate.

Well then why do it? When Martinez was at 154, a big spectacle was made of him climbing up to 180 between fights. He's not any younger now, and it's likely just as difficult to make 160 now as it was to make 154 then. It's a stupid clause by Cotto's camp (don't believe Cotto himself has a say in this), catchweights simply shouldn't exist. Boxing's divisions are cramped as hell, catchweights are absolutely absurd when we have 16 divisions separating 90 lbs of combatants. No need for them, at least there shouldn't be.
Calling Cotto "Kneeguel" is unbelievable though. You are the same guy who made a thread about Oscar Gonzalez' passing. Think about that for a minute. Cotto was beat the fuck up and took a knee after one of the most entertaining fights of the decade. I understand you like to poke and prod at people, but would you have rather seen him dead like Oscar Gonzalez? Gonzalez spit out his mouthpiece and quit in his fight. Coward right?

If it's not an issue than why even do it in the first place?
It's some f**got bullshit on Cotto's part.

Exactly. He was only 158 for Chavez and has never weighed in at 160. I'm not even sure why they announced this. Its a non issue.

lol
I'm a Cotto fan but he looks like a bit of a pinhead. I mean he actually did himself a disservice here. Should he win well one can imagine what ensues. Somehow it will be twisted into the reason he won lol even though the facts were in on Sergio's previous weight. He already looks like a bit of a schlep by making such a big deal over the billboard.

Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
Martinez is the middleweight champion. His 160 pound title is at stake. He has to be within that range. I like Cotto and I am a fan but he is a guest in the house of Martinez and he has paid some dues as well. My belief not an opinion which is an unsubstantiated belief is that while we accommodate a guest it is still our abode. 160 is the limit and if Martinez agrees to give up a pound and all is well at the castle then so be it. Bottom line, catch weights and demands on a champion no matter how small is unfair unless he agrees otherwise take a long walk off a short pier as we used to hear in boot camp, rules are fucking rules.

Re: Kneeguel Cotto has a soft change of heart.. it's now catchweight @ 159
Cotto should not bother insisting with the 1lb it makes the haters use it as an excuse to hate him even more when it makes little difference.
