Not that I want anyone's career ruined, but I hope he gets beat in devastating fashion.
Maybe deter every fighter who believes the pros and amateurs are the same from diving straight into world title fights.
It annoys me, when it took fighters like groves 19 fights to get a world title shot, even Tyson fury who is 21 fights.

If a fighters good enough then he's good enough ;)
Lomanchenko proved beyond any doubt he's already a class act and more than ready for this,
He destroyed Ramirez in his first pro fight and made it look easy.
Southpaw with killer body shots and KO power.
What more do you think he should do to prove himself ready?

The devastating defeat is coming to Salido, he's a good fighter but Lomanchenko is levels above
him, he has vast amounts of experience already.
I normally would say he would need 15 or 20 fights but in this case not, this guy is outstanding
he's miles better than the other contenders out there.:)

Exactly, the Kids ready now to fight for a title,
I don't wanna see him dragged along against a series of walkover fights for a few years!
He says he's ready, he's proved he's ready so let him go for it
I agree i think he's gonna win the title in style and wouldn't be surprised at all if he scores a KO victory against Salido ;)

Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
I love this because it's a kick in the bollocks to the rose-tinted mob that claim boxing has gone backwards and amateur experience has no impact on the pro's these days.
It's not just Lomachenko, a whole bunch of current talent rising to the top have extensive amateur experience - Rigo, Golovkin, Kovalev etc
-
I agree with Fenster on this one, but there have been plenty of talented amateurs who didn't do as well as expected (Harrison), especially this early in their careers (Rademacher), to leave doubts in almost everyone's mind.
Unusual event will have everyone watching, even non-boxing fans. Twitter and Facebook will see to that.

Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
Lomanchenko is awesome, if he wins his next fight I wonder if he'll consider moving up the weight divisions or if he'll clean up where he is first.

Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
I'm looking forward to this as much as any fight on the horizon. If he beats Salido easily he's going to become a star really quickly. He's obviously an exceptional talent but it's stiff competition for your second pro fight. He must be destroying guys in the gym for Top Rank to have agreed to this fight so soon.

Its comical, the same people who give out about fighters going through the rankings fighting journey men, then past their best former champs to become champs, and then complain about this.
-
Lomachenko better be special because Salido is one tough hombre.
-
Isn't he about 26 yr old anyway even tho there is a difference between the pro game and amateur , he's been in boxing a good few years,

Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
Loma has already competed in those ams tournaments without headgear so actually he's more experienced than his pro record indicates..
Orlando feels disrespected and I hope he wrecks loma..

I hope Salido does a number on him but I think Lomachenko will be too good :-\ some see his record as 7-0 :p

Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
I have never ranked a professional fighter using a amatuer record and I won't start this year. Howard Davis also fought without headgear and was a top notch amatuer..how'd that pro super stardom turn out? Lomanchenko looks like he knows the road and was good with Rameriez but to make Rameriez out to be some established qualifier for a title shot "earned" is silly man. There is ZERO wrong with a guy practicing-showcasing his pro craft and building from journeymen, gatekeepers, contenders and then "champions". As long as its not a boat load of zombies like a certain heavyweight. Build a fan base with people still looking up 2,3 times just to spell his fookin name right. Right now..Lomanchenko has zero room to go backwards or adjust IF shit hits the fan vs Salido or any other same level guy at 3-0. You think Arum is going to have his back if the house collaspes??? What is helping him as much as gold medals and some talent is a big wide grinning Arum tapping his deep fat pockets and positioning a mirror on himself. Lomo needs to look long term with his apparent ability, think beyond some meaningless trivia question regarding a trinket with as many miles as a used Chevy Buick.

I think Lomo is looking at this long term in one way/ he knows the risk is huge but if he pulls it off hes immediately a star most likely and will have accomplished something nobody else has. This will lead to some pretty big paydays in the not to distant future and if everything goes to plan he probably could retire a rich man after just a ten fight career...I'd rather see a more tempered approach but I am not going to knock a dude for having supreme confidence.

Microwave approach. Hes already being given star status. I don't doubt his confidence but the afforded red carpet oppurtunity has just as much to do with it, lets just be honest. Salido made to do promo pics one hour after HIS trinket win ;D Its a set up man, its a hoodwink.

Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
I can see both sides. There are many contenders Lomachenko (there's no N guys) could have built his name and following against, but Salido is a door he can step through into super-star status :-\ that is where the interest lies ;D

Yeah he's being given somewhat of a red carpet status but hell so are many other big name amateurs that go into the pros and then fight nobodies. Isnt that chinese fella headlining huge cards over in china fighting nobodies? Lomachenko could do the same thing most likely in his native ukraine, or possibly germany since they seem to have hard ons for every eastern euro fighter. Salido is no joke and if lomachenko soundly beats him, or hell even legitimately scrapes by then that is a big accomplishment.
-
Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
i just dont think that he has earned a shot at the title yet. although he easily beat ramirez in his first pro fight (which is impressive), ramirez was still a nobody. he hadnt beaten anybody with any sort of name at all and lost to worthless fighters. i have no idea who will win since i havent watched loma's amateur fights but i would have to think that salido would win. if loma can overcome the tenacity of salido, i will be very surprised and will then admit that he is the real deal.

Top Rank has already determined the winner. Loma ... come on guys this is now all business not actual boxing
-
I think Lomanchenko is gonna cripple him with those body shots then bang him out later on.
He spars with middleweights and apparantley just bullies them about with ease same as GGG spars and owns bigger guys.
I think we have a new superstar here and expect him to win in style ;)

Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
I can't understand why anyone objects to this matchup, it's exciting and good for boxing. If it's the fact that Loma hasn't earned a title shot, should it not matter how Salido won the thing then? He fought for the same vacant belt that Mikey Garcia pummelled him to take just months before, against Orlando Cruz, who had never done anything. If the WBO strap hadn't been on the line in that fight, would anyone complain about Loma getting the chance to fight Salido now?
How can people consistently declare how useless all these trinkets are, and then have a problem with a good crossroads fight happening, because one of them happens to be on the line:confused: Fighters make the belts, Salido is a weak and old champ who would probably lose to a dozen fighters in his division quite clearly. I imagine Loma will completely wreck him.
-
Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
Agree with p4p. This will be a great matchup. Salido is going to come forward no matter what he is taking. It should be an exciting fight. Yeah Loma is getting a shot early but these guys are game, they deserve each other.
-
Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
the big question is, what happens if loma loses? will he start fighting easier fights to gain experience? i think that losing a fight like this could be bad for his career. so much hype yet if he loses, he could just become a good prospect.

Tested positive for nandrolone after the Guerrero fight.

A bit of news chaps my son talks to Rigo,! and he said he would like to fight Lomanchenko,!!!
what a fight that would be.:)
-
Yea was talking to Gary Hyde the other night at a card in Dublin. He said they are planning to move up in weight and try clear out that division. Would be great to see. Rigo has the skill set to do it. Fighting bigger guys will possibly make his fights more entertaining if opposition don't respect his power as much

I'll be rooting for Lomachenko, for the sake of a new star, however I just have this feeling that Salido will win.

Can't see Salido winning, I think he will take a beating Lomachenko all the way.

Once this fight gets to the late rounds, loma is gonna be in some deep shit.. I hope Salido kicks his ass.
Rigo is better than loma..

Seriously looking forward to this fight!
If Lomanchenko pulls this off its gonna be a hugely historic night and a new sensation in boxing will be born.

Apologies if I'm mistaken but what are u basing this on? I'm pretty sure u said in a previous thread that u hadn't seen much of Loma as an amateur. So if u are basing this on his 1 pro fight that is extremely blind of you. May I remind you Rigo scraped a SD against Cordoba, a guy Bernard dunne stopped and also looked very average against Marriquin.

Yeah there's pretty limited footage of him but enough to see his skills , I think he can win on Sat night but let's wait and see.
The 2 Olympic and World gold medals and the 399-1 amateur record then his debut pro;) display kind of made me sit up and take notice
