Abner Mares to face Japanese champion, Takashi Miura on Floyd undercard
Abner Mares-Takashi Miura in Play For Mayweather Bill - Boxing News
Its a ballsy move but it's wack how he can get a shot at the 130 title right after he got beat in his FW defense.
Miura is very dangerous and mares is fucking with the wrong guy.

Nice move by Mares :D would have liked to see him face Gonzalez again but like Silky said he adds even more flavor to the division ;)

I think 130 is a bridge too far in the long run for Mares. But he will probably have a couple good scraps before it takes its toll.

Re: Abner Mares to face Japanese champion, Takashi Miura on Floyd undercard
This probably sucks for Gonzales a lot, he would have gotten a nice payday for the Mares rematch and might have his number. There should be some kind of clause about withdrawing from fights with injuries, I mean clearly Mares didn't want Gonzales again. He didn't sprain his rib and then just decide to move up a division and fight someone else instead of rescheduling.

I understand what your saying and agree to a point. It seems Mares was trying to distance himself from his manager and Jhonny ended up with the short end of the stick :-\

Yep had forgotten, right after I posted I remembered reading something about his management, who knows whats up. I haven't even seen this Miura guy fight either, and I still rate Mares highly. It just sucks for Gonzales, and that would have been a really good rematch.

Re: Abner Mares to face Japanese champion, Takashi Miura on Floyd undercard
Four divisions in two+ yrs. Can we just get a guy who will actually commit himself and not hopscotch once shit gets bumpy...or when a trinket is guaranteed..for once. FFS. He needs to rematch Gonzalez, period. This is strictly about grabbing a paper weight belt and bragging about multi divisions and immediate transition into a "huge" fight and hoping fans call Gonzalez a fluke ko...
| well, no shit huh

I guess what I'm really saying is I hope he gets his ass kicked badly!

Mares is a cheating bitch. I hope it all catches up to him (again).

Re: Abner Mares to face Japanese champion, Takashi Miura on Floyd undercard
Miura is crude but very dangerous fighter. Miura is a relentless offensive fighter. He made Crazy Dante Jardon succumbed to his relentless attack.

Re: Abner Mares to face Japanese champion, Takashi Miura on Floyd undercard
I think this guy Mares is a world class fighter but I am disappointed because he is a master of deception when it comes to cheap shots. I saw him in a couple of fights he had no business winning. He's dirty but I wondered what would happen if he did not get that chance to be dirty and his name was Jhonny Gonzales and suddenly all that pride disappeared when he got a chance at fighting for another title. The question is, does he deserve that shot? I am not criticizing his ability, just his definition of south of the border when the bell rings.

Re: Abner Mares to face Japanese champion, Takashi Miura on Floyd undercard
Miura is the real deal and Mares is taking a huge chance, he will need to be 100% on form to win this. Miura won't take any of Mares dubious ring tactics lightly.

i dont like mares moving up in weight. he is already a small featherweight. he is a great fighter but he should stay at the lighter weight classes.

I too am less than sure this is a good idea. Featherweight tune up before fighting Gonzalez looked to be the way to go because while Jhonny starched him, he's more than capable of winning the rematch as it often depends which Jhonny turns up.

I agree that moving to 130 might be too soon :-\ great to see Mares taking on a rated guy in his first fight at the weight :D
