... don't talk smack. He's cool!
On tele yeah he's a bit of a knob. As a writer though he's right up my street. Or used to be anyway, dont really read too many articles these days let alone buy a mag.
I've met and spoke to Bunce a few times..he's part of the furniture at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.
Nice, friendly guy when I had a beer with him and a good laugh.
His fight knowledge is pretty amazing and he does some brilliant written stuff.
Check out the mini film on youtube of when he goes to track down Kirkland Laing ;)
I went off him a bit after following his twitter (I don't actually have twitter). Comes across as a right jealous prick because he doesn't work for the big boys (Sky/Hearn). Even came across jealous of the attention IFilmLondon get and certain other boxing writers.
I regularly read his articles though.
I like him overall but he has a habit of saying stupid things at times,Barry Jones pulled him up on it the other week.Kept on talkng about Rocky.
And he talks over people at times as well.
I liked him in his early years. Now he's the British version of Teddy Atlas. They have both kind of forgotten who the stars are. Jim Lapley probably tops them both. He just conjugates his vowels better.
Never met him but he seems like a nice likeable guy on tv.
Bunce is no Lampley, but he is good for Boxnation.
;D
Lampley has alot of emotion and is another guy that is likeable and perfect for that american movie style rocky type commentating.
I liked when he commentated on roy jones vs ruiz and at one stage went "they are fighting, they are fighting in the ring"
(I think it was the rj fight..)
Bunce is good but he can get too excited at times and ends up exaggerating a lot.
I can tolerate him and he can make good points, but when he gets excited his voice is just an earsore. If he is going to be on TV, I would like him to take some elocution lessons and to lower his note range somewhat. It would make the boxing world a nicer place.
