... and yet still about Deontay Wilder:
... After that one round farce of a fight last night against Scott, we still have NO IDEA of his long-term fighting ability, or his chin or his heart.
If it was a fix, which I feel that it was, we were robbed of knowing if Wilder is still a worthy guy worth fighting at the top level and getting title chances.
That fight showed us less of Wilder as did the fight with Sergei and all the others.
We saw "some" things with Firtha, and a little glimpse of what he was when he faced Kelvin Price, but that's it....
I would love to see a Mansour, Pulev, Chagaev, Fury, Chisora, Thompson, Haye and/or Ortiz/Perez/Solis fight for Wilder.
Please line up Solis, Thompson, Chagaev or Pulev. These are guys still hungry to win....
-
Re: ... and yet still about Deontay Wilder:
Arreola will test him. Arreola will beat Stiverne and will pressure him and make him work. He's not going to take a dive.
-
Re: ... and yet still about Deontay Wilder:
Is he not fighting the winner of Perez/Jennings? Thought I read somewhere that was the other eliminator.

Nope that was it last I heard. Unless they change minds after that farce. All he does now is sit in his highchair and wait..
-
Re: ... and yet still about Deontay Wilder:
Just watched it on youtube.
That is the most fixed looking stoppage I have ever seen!
The left hook was an arm punch and Wilders right glove didnt even touch Scotts head! It didnt even force Scotts gloves to bang in to his head!
What a fucking joke and how fucking embarrasing!
Watch! It was orchestrated.

Then wait.... and his next fight if either Perez or Jennings, odds are it's Jennings, WILL be the test of tests.
I'll go with Jennings.

I don't see how that could be fixed. If it was fixed, it was the worst performance I ever saw.
One thing was clear to me, Scott was not eager to engage.
-
Re: ... and yet still about Deontay Wilder:
Scott was being very friendly to his best friend. One day Wilder will step up the competition.

That's the trouble with the division I guess, there are just about no solid, tested guys who will guarantee rounds against anyone anymore. I don't think a single person you just listed is on a higher level than Malik Scott, whose to say Wilder doesn't blast them all out and invite the same criticism.
I feel Bryant Jennings, Arreola, Stiverne or Povetkin would be the best opponents for Wilder at this stage. The winner of Mansour/Cunningham or Fury/Chisora would also be great to see.

Re: ... and yet still about Deontay Wilder:
Chris Arreola I would bet heavily on to KO Deontay Wilder.
Natural fighter
Good skills,
Great stamina,
Hard chin,
Mentally tough,
Hefty
Fast
Tall
Big cracker punches (singly and in combination)
Wilder can't match that!
Arreola is a real fighter and boxer.
Wilder is a good prospect but one that will ultimately fail against this calibre of opponent.
-
I'm not a Wilder hater but until he has a real boxing match I can't for the life of me figure out why he is discussed so much on this boxing board.
I could see discussing his amateur career but his pro career, there's nothing to discuss.

He is of interest because he is a mystery!
A. Is he one of the best ever punchers? Without a chin or heart.
B. Is he the biggest hype job in memory? With an above average punch.
C. Is he the real deal, the one every boxing fan has been waiting for who follows the heavies? With all the heart and chin he will ever need.
He's a heavyweight with a punch, he's 31-0 with 31 KOs and 18 KOs in the first round. How the hell could he not be of interest to a boxing fan?
Come Mr Swanson, are you saying you don't want to see him in the ring with Wlad?

And each question needs its own thread? No reason to ever step up if coasting makes him so interesting. All I see is different questions nobody has the answer to but people keep asking.

Re: ... and yet still about Deontay Wilder:
We might just prefer mysteries in this division because we're not satisfied with most of what we see already. Is there a Santa Claus and how do planes disappear are mysteries worth the time ;D , with heavies fans want statements and answers.

I'm not a big Wilder fan. If you want to waste the time, check out my posts about Wilder, most will be negative.
Wilder does keep winning! The fact that he wins all by KO, hasn't been beyond the 4th or 5th round and hasn't been tested in the ring is the source of all the interest and ridicule.
I'm not defending Wilder, I was trying to answer Ron's question.
-
I wrote a novel breaking this down but I erased it because I don't want to bore people.
Short answer to Deontay is he seems to have alarming power. But history shows sloppy fighters with huge power don't hold up. There's no signs he will correct his technique so they either have to avoid resistance or watch him lose except the occasions he catches the guy. So far they've chosen to avoid resistance.

Oh no, of course. I just think its another in a long line of promoters trying to microwave a guy to the top. I'm in the skeptical boat as we've all seen so many guys who have faced better run up to eventually fall flat. One guy makes observations and points out obvious holes and he's called a hater, another on the other spectrum goes all in and buys the power push, nest coming etc and he's called a fan boy or whatever. There has to be middle ground and you can only analyze or critique what is actually happened, not what might or we wish would.

Shavers wasn't 6'7. I'm hoping the height n reach will continue to serve Wilder well.

We have not seen enough of Wilder to say he uses his height and reach with effect.

Shavers had above average reach... I'd say Wilder is a Hearns waiting to happen. Someone who gets in with a SRL, who takes him deep, absorbs his shots, and then beats him up late- a weakened kitten of a Wilder, late.

I think the height gives him great leverage on his one-two and left hook-right hand.
I also think at the least his size intimidates opponents when combined with his powe and intensity.

Bit of a boring night but thinking of a previous date oriented thread, I ran across this vintage look at "power". Here's a beastly Wilder slipping and or being knocked off balance by a punch to the glove ;D while fighting a 400lb unemployed trucker being payed in chili dogs and Funyans.

Deontay Wilder vs Dustin Nichols - YouTube
Two Ton Tony Galento did more than that to Joe Louis. lol

The difference is the fat guy never touched Wilder, he slipped, then beat the guy into submission.
The other difference is this was Wilder's 10th fight.
I would like to see Wilder succeed myself.

These are the types of making sausage farces that his people should make sure get burned ;D. The circus bear just couldn't get off the stool again, not so much beat into submission.

Apparently they paid him $400,000 worth and he ate his wages on the way to the ring.
-
I don't know what to think about Wilder, I'd certainly like to see him become the best heavy to ever live. LOL
All I can say about him is that just because he has big power and gets rid of guys fast does not mean there is something wrong with him. If any fighter can make a short night of it, he would be stupid to do anything else.
We have to wait until he gets in with an opponent who has proven his worth. It's getting closer and closer!

Really now? I'd be interested in seeing that quote.
Default Re: Arreola vs Stiverne 2 RBR....someone please
"I have no idea. Would like to see Chris get this! Betting the nose gets broken again though.
"
I do think Wilder is very beatable though, he has shown me very little in the way of complete basics and needed experience and answered questions to say he is the beast he's being made out to be. His vaunted 'power' is overrated and more often a lot of these knockouts see the cannon fodder opponents actually get up or the farce is waved off...see link above. Wilder is all promise with little to no solid proof thus far.
