U have a time machine. 10 fighters to bring back from the past?

Who would you bring back and an explanation if you like?

1. Ray Robinson - Obvious reasons.

2. Rocky Marciano - He'd fight at LHW and I'd love to see him tear shit up there.

3. Tommy Hearns - I wanna see him vs Mayweather at 147 because of all the past greats I think he'd have the best shot at beating Floyd's ass.

4. Niccolino Locche - I'm a huge fan of his style and skill.

5. Hagler - Marvin vs GGG

6. Muhammad Ali

7. Pernell Whitaker

8. Mike Tyson

9. Aaron Pryor

10. Henry Armstrong

I would like to bring Leonard to kick Floyds ass or watch Floyd makes excuses not to fight him.

I would also love to bring back Fraizier to kick Max Powers ass. :)

Sam Langford, just to see if he really was as good as everyone says. What's not in doubt is that he would be good enough to win one of the proliferation of Alphabet Belts out there, and thus right a historical injustice

Roberto Duran, to tear through the lightweights and to terrorise every fighter on the planet, regardless of their weight

John L Sullivan, to fight Tyson Fury in a bare knuckled brawl in a car park somewhere. That would be great to watch

I have 8, more or less off the top of my head.
1) Fritzie Zivic. Because from what I have read and from his record, he could really fight. A lot of the old time guys say he had a bunch of decision losses because he took the money when fighting out of town. The modern idea is that he was 'just' a dirty fighter. I don't think anybody fighting today could beat the guy that fought Burley three times, Robinson twice , and LaMotta five times.
2) Ezzard Charles. I think he is the best of all time and I would love to watch him fight at 175, his best weight.
3) Charley Burley. His legend is awesome.
4) Jerry Quarry and Henry Cooper so they could dominate the cruisers and then make a ton of money fighting one another. And I think that would be a very good fight.
6) Archie Moore. Not as an old man but as the young guy that had to fight Burley and Charles and Booker et al. I'd like to see him have some easy fights in his prime years.
7) Jose Napoles and Ike Williams so I could see them fight at 135.

To see, as one of the other posters mentioned, how good Langford and Burley actually are, I would love to bring them back in my Delorian.
(I watched Greys video post on Burley- Examining greatness) or something like that, and to see it in action live would be amazing. Same with Langford as all I have about him are books and articles.


Other than that, Duran, Hagler, hell the whole fab four, Ali, young Tyson, maybe even Butterbean for kicks. Might stir up a couple of weight classes.

Pretty sure I'll leave some out, but of the first to come to mind are:

1. Arguello - A class act... and I loved his boxing-punching style. "El Flaco Explosivo"!!
2. Sugar Ray Leonard - Still alive, of course... but I'd bring him back from retirement. One of the best there ever was.
3. Hearns - Just 'cause I'd want to see more Leonard-Hearns classics.
4. Trinidad - For obvious (for me) reasons. Loved to fight... one of our local greats. Speaking of which....
5. Wilfredo Gomez - Insane KO percentage... another local great.
6. Marciano - I'd like to finally find out how Rocky would really do against modern-day fighters.
7. Julian Jackson - Scary KO power. Either KO'ed or was KO'ed. You knew some devastation was going to happen.
8. Tyson - With the scarcity of HW excitement going on nowadays... and love him or hate him.... I think we all miss the Tyson days. Besides, I'd like to see him have a go at Wladimir while in their respective primes.
9. Sugar Ray Robinson - Ditto what I said about Marciano.
10. Corrales - Never saw a bad Corrales fight.

To conclude my list I would like to add Ruben Olivares and manuel Ortiz. I think that, on the night he won the title Olivares was nearly unbeatable. But I know guys that go way back and saw a lot of both that say Ortiz was better. I'd like to see them fight.

I would bring back fighters that'll be an addition to the deep divisions of today..

My HW fab 4 - LEwis, Bowe, Tyson, Holyfield all prime - to have a royal rumble with the Klitschko's and Haye too to see how those outcomes would go.

Rocky Marciano so he could fight at 185 and knock the snot out of everyone there and then move up and knock the snot out of every single small heavyweight up to 210 pounds. And NO he doesnt have to fight Lennox Lewis or George Foreman because they would be a full weight division or more above his stature.

I'd pick up Toney at the Waffle House and bring him back as 93-94'...hand him a microphone and watch him stand in front of Junior Chavez at the very same Waffle House shouting "GOT MILK..HUH..GOT MILK BABY" ;D

nice thread. as finito said, i will pick fighters that i think would make good matchups with the good divisions now.

aaron pryor- he has some super exciting fights at 140 against matthysse, provo, alvarado, JMM, etc.

ray robinson- gets to fight floyd at WW then he can move up and fight canelo, cotto, martinez, ggg, etc.

tommy hearns- i love his right hand. it is devastating and i would love to see how floyd would try to adjust.

willie pep- it would be great to see him fight rigo to show what true great boxing is. he would embarass donaire even worse than rigo did.

henry armstrong- super exciting fighter that wouldnt let up

george foreman- i would love to see him walk through the HW division and KO wlad in 1 round.

roy jones- perfect time for him to be in the SMW and LHW classes with tons of good fights with ward, froch, kovalev, stevenson, etc.

rocky marciano- i just want to see what he does against crusierweights today and maybe even LHWs.

harry greb- there is no fight footage of him so im saying him so that i could see him fight

jim jeffries- kind of the same reason as greb because we dont have any prime footage of him and supposedly he was great at taking punishment as well as giving it. im sure that he would just make exciting fights.

1. Jem Mace - to witness where it all started from and just to study his scientific technique and see what parts of it survive. Be nice to share an Ale with him and to record him playing his fiddle

2. Bob Fitzsimmons - To again watch the progression and see how much of if his success from middle to heavyweight was down to talent.

3. Ted Kid Lewis - Would be a great privilege to watch him operate today

4. Henry Armstrong - So Entertaining, again to see if he replicate his success across three weights and to witness him against Duran at lightweight before mullering Floyd at Welter

5. Roberto Duran - to fight Armstrong at lightweight and Manny at light welter

6. Joe Frazier - To shut fight everybody outside of the Klitschkos and demonstrate how good a fighter he really was. There was so much fight in him you would need at least two modern heavies to replicate his heart and workrate

7. Alexis Argüello - Style and Charisma. Something a lot of modern fighters mistakenly think occurs outside of the ring

8.Thomas Hearns - The guy lit up the ring and would do so today

9.Eder Jofre - Finally put him in with Duran at lightweight after clearing up the modern bantams

10.Sugar Ray Robinson - You don't need a reason to bring back Sugar

Honestly, I'd be tempted to bring back the 90's american Heavyweights. Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Moorer, Bowe etc. I just loved the Heavyweights of that era and it'd add a bit of interest to the division right now.

I'd make a motion to bring back Ad Wolgast and Harry Greb as honorary motivational speakers for Hbos fighters. They'd yell in grainy black & white silhouettes using these old timey radio snappy drawls and remind half those young bloated slackers about the days when a guys pre fight meal was a plate of boiled dirt and having to whipe ones ass with cold railroad spikes and rocks!!! Stress that tomorrows are not promised regardless of your promotion, or how much Bob Scarum Arum wants to ride your shiny new arse into the record books no matter how high the bullshit needs stacking. The importance of proper weight and don't be afraid of added roadwork in mining boots and huge hats and to pull that damn tree stump on a chain the extra yard if need be...Yeeh Seeeee Yeh! Then I'd sign Greb in a freak show fight with Wilder and bet a few hundred in him chewing through those tweety bird legs and making him stay on the stool :-X;D
