Benitez/Duran/Hagler/Hearns/Leonard- let's sort it out.
Benitez beat Duran but lost to Hearns and Leonard. 1- 2
Duran beat Leonard once but lost the second time and third time. He also lost to Benitez, Hagler and Hearns. 1 - 5.
Leonard beat Duran two out of three times, beat Hearns once and drew the other and beat Benitez and Hagler. 5 - 1- 1
Hearns lost to Leonard once and drew the second time, lost to Hagler, but beat Duran and Benitez. 2 - 1 - 1
Hagler beat Duran and Hearns, but lost to Leonard. 2 -1
You guys like to shit on Leonard, but he fought all of them and won all but one- one in which he avenged.
In my ranking:
Leonard
Hagler (only because I feel he would have beaten Benitez, or else I would have put Hearns ahead)
Hearns (if he had won a rematch vs. Hagler and won the rematch vs. Leonard, he could have come first)
Benitez
Duran
Re: Benitez/Duran/Hagler/Hearns/Leonard- let's sort it out.
1. Leonard
2. Duran
3. Hagler
4. Hearns
5. Benitez
Re: Benitez/Duran/Hagler/Hearns/Leonard- let's sort it out.
Who shits on Leonard? He clearly was the #1 guy in that era.
People can make all the excuses they want for why Leonard won those fights, but in the end he knocked out Tommy Hearns, knocked out Benitez, made one of the toughest guys in boxing history quit, and came back from a 3 year layoff and, without even a tune-up fight, challenged and beat one of the greatest and most destructive middleweight champs in the history of boxing.
Leonard is boxing royalty and always will be.
Re: Benitez/Duran/Hagler/Hearns/Leonard- let's sort it out.
Leonard did not "beat Hearns twice". His official record against Tommy is 1-0-1.
Treating it as 1-1 is justified imo. To be fair, putting more weight on the first fight, since they were both in their prime, is also justified.
But treating their rivalry as 2-0 for Leonard is not.

Look im a Hearns fan as you probably know , however that order is fair I think. When you write those names down you remember how great that era was.

Yes, Hearns won that second fight and even Ray admitted that then and still does as of recent. And to be official...Ray beat Duran a second time later in their careers. So he is 2-1 against Duran. Hearns was a match up hell for him which is evident in both fights.

Please explain to me how Duran being second is fair? He lost to everyone on that list.

Of course its all subjective , Duran starting at LW , gave him a big disadvantage , however did Duran have more historical impact than Benitez and Hearns , I think probably.
Also Marvin was great so maybe he could be second , its a tough one. As for Duran yes he got starched by Tommy , however he went on to beat Barkley who twice beat Tommy , its hard to pick the list - fact.

Agreed, Hearns won the 2nd fight and got robbed.
But like you alluded to, the first fight is the important one and Leonard came out on top.

I changed it. But I did have Leonard winning the fight.

I changed that too. And makes it seem even more weird to have Duran ahead of Hagler and Hearns.

Re: Benitez/Duran/Hagler/Hearns/Leonard- let's sort it out.
Some of you are questioning why I rated Duran over Hagler and Hearns.
Keep in mind that lightweight was his prime weight division and he moved up to beat a young Leonard even when he was past his best.. Hagler couldnt even beat Leonard who was coming off of a long layoff..
Sure he lost to Hearns but that was more of a style thing and he still beat a prime Leonard who beat the man but more importantly, he moved up again to beat Iran Barkley who had knocked out Hearns in the previous bout.. Lastly, Duran went 15 rounds with Hagler and fought well enough to a point where some fans questioned the verdict.. Hearns got KTFO early by Hagler..
It's criminal to rate Hagler and Hearns over Roberto Duran..

This is why they coined p4p title.
Duran was the lightest, oldest and the meanest. In his prime, see Leonard fight, p4p, he would skin them all.
He was as tough as Hagler, but much smarter as a boxers,
He was slick and quick almost like Leonard, but much tougher
He would destroy Hearns in the same fashion Hagler did and out-punch Benitez like Leonard.
Duran was a God of Boxing War, who became flesh because of his obsession with donuts and bacon.
