I think it would be a very good fight :D remember Margarito had difficulty with Santos :-X

Santos was huge compared to Maidana, as is Margarito for that matter. I don't think Maidana has a style that could have kept a guy like that off of him, he'd have the better craft and probably more pop, but he still comes to fight. With Margo being bigger and so much more durable, it may not have even been all that competitive.
Maidana does a lot of things better than Margarito did imo, practically everything besides durability and raw stamina, natural size etc would be to his advantage. Just those things would really cost him in this one imo.

Margarito and Maidana aren't remotely similar. Maidana is a smarter fighter, with a better jab, more power, better punch selection etcetera. Margarito had chin and stamina. That and weapons he couldn't win without hence going 1-3 when they were taken away. The question should be who wouldn't punish Margarito when he's forced to fight fair? Cotto slapped him around like a woman, Mosley pummeled him like a club fighter, Pac nearly blinded him. Watching Margie be knocked around without his weapons was like watching a cat fight with one cat de-clawed. He was awful and that made perfect sense because his feet always suggested he was an awful fighter. Thank goodness we all got to see how terrible a fair fighting Margie always should have been.
not beat him? I'd go with maidana in that one, yeah marg would outweigh/size him but I think maidana would still have more pop and it be a fun battle with maidana edging it.
I think he'd knock him out. All Perry Mason and Hardy boys if's, maybes, and career assumptions aside..Margarito was more straight, mobile and the uppercuts on Maidana would be brutal. Marcos is awkward and can hurt you with blind shots but Margarito sponged and mounted a bigger comeback with volume. Pretty sure he or anyone could not "load" a workrate, same crazy angles and brick mortar chin :-X

Take Chavez-Taylor for instance.. Let's just pretend that Steele made the right call in favor of Taylor.. That was the best performance of his career yet he took so much punishment in that fight that he was never the same afterwards...
Margarito may have beaten Cotto but do you realize how many vicious shots he took for that victory?? He ate vicious combinations round after round but the only reason he won was because he was able to absorb the punishment while Cotto couldn't ..

SPeaking of limitations, Khan and Kotenik did the same to Maidana although we can argue the Kotenik fight was questionable but my point is, Margarito would have destroyed somebody like Kotenik without having to go to the cards..
Alexander would most likely bitch up against a prime Margarito.. Maidana couldn't put a dent in him.
