I would go with Oscar
Meh Mayweather was at his prime at 130-135. Oscar started at 135 but really was at his best at WW when he stopped killing and draining himself to make the 135 limit.
Floyd was just way too fast and skilled for him at that weight.
Oscar was a very skilled and hard puncher at the lower weights. He was not a deadly puncher at welterweight but had a good left hook. It would have been very interesting.
Oscar was bigger than Floyd, significantly. The larger they are when they fight advantage Oscar, the smaller you go advantage Floyd.
Exactly, I think however past it he may have been, Oscar already held the best advantages he could have ever hoped to when they did fight. At 135 Mayweather was simply a hell of a lot better imo.
Is there really any question here? When they fought Oscar past the curve headed down hill.
It's a tough fight to call. Floyd is very very good but at that time Oscar was tops too.
I'd say Oscar could have done it, he'd have among the best chances of it imo.
Prime Oscar was an absolute machine.
This is what's difficult for me to give Oscar the nod. Sure he didn't fight Prime Oscar and the Oscar he did fight did well enough against him but Floyd was also even better at his optimal weight so kind of levels it out.Quote:

At 130, 135, 140, I figured I wouldn't see this guy in any real good scraps, serious fireworks, for like 2 or 3 more years or whatever until he got up to Welter where he belonged.

At 147, a prime seasoned 24 year old Oscar was fighting really well at the time of the David Kamau fight in 1997. Kamau was 28 wins(21 KOs), 1 loss at the time.
DLH from 1997-2000 was very hard to beat. He made a fool of Trinidad and was denied the win. Mosley beat him fair and square in fight 1 (not fight 2) he had close calls with Whitaker and Quartey, but Oscar fought the best and you can't say he ducked anyone back then. At 140lb i give him every chance of beating Floyd. It would be even money at 147lb also.
How would Floyd handle Whitaker, Quartey, Trinidad and the 2000 version of Shane Mosley?
Not to discredit Oscar but that fight really illustrates how different fighters got different treatment not necessarily based on ability. I'm not going to name names and sidetrack this but David Kamau never rose to champion yet HBO pushed him as a quality opponent. Even going so far as to outright lie repeatedly. "First time Oscar has faced someone with a longer reach" "his tremendous reach" etcetera, dude had a 69" reach. That's right, 69" while being a tall fighter he had short arms. I think a Prime De la Hoya beats a Prime Floyd Mayweather and a Prime Manny Pacquiao. Oscar damn near beat Floyd when they actually fought which was well past Oscar's hay day.

He only had 4 matches at 135, and 2 of them were to Castillo who whupped Floyd's @$$ in Floyd's 1st fight at 135.
First fight they had was very close and in the rematch Mayweather beat Jlc quiet clearly there was no ass whopping that took place. At 135 i am not sure who were the Top guys Oscar fought at the weight again i have to go back and watch his fights it be a close fight though.
Yes he can, because Oscar was still kind of green at that weight and that was not his best weight. Welterweight was Oscar's best weight class and at his peak. Floyd, imo isn't beating Oscar at WW, he has a better shot at 135. At 140 Oscar was coming into his prime, but 147 was when he was at his best.
You could be right about super feather for Oscar looking at his record he beat Jeff Mayweather. Oscar stopped Genaro Hernandez first at lightweight.Quote:
