Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
I think it's a waste of time, personally. Maidana gave Floyd trouble in the first half of the fight, and then Floyd made the adjustments necessary and took over. It's just going to start off where it left off. Maidana fought the perfect fight and came up short, and he only knows how to fight THAT fight. Floyd will move more and make it a more lopsided fight if it happens again.
I'm much more interested in seeing Floyd fight the winner of a Porter/Thurman showdown, because IMO those guys have a legit shot and knocking out Floyd, especially Porter who is very athletic and brutal on the inside.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
I think Maidana outworked Floyd and made him fight an atypical fight which bust him up and took him out of his comfort zone. I think he won. He owes Maidana a rematch and I am curious to see if Mayweather at this age can do something different or if it ends up like Peter/Toney 2 or Jones Jr/Tarver 2. It's a classic fighter at the end against an inferior, but hungrier young fighter.

I'm torn. On the one hand, it was a close fight, a tale of two halves, but as you put it, in the second half, Floyd turned it on, and if they were to fight again, won't he pick up where he left off?
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
I'd go for a rematch, it's something we don't usually see. unfortunately, I think Floyd would have things figured out for a rematch but it's not like Chino wouldn't figured things out as well. Chino had better success against Floyd that we have seen lately.I would like to see Floyd v Khan at this point after years of not liking Khan but his convincing win I think it should but him in the running. All in all it was a good night of boxing I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Chimp again, he was a bull a completely unintimidiated, very interesting to see.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
Im sure they'll have a rematch next just because it'll make more money with less risk for Floyd. Maidana boxed the performance of his life but didn't beat Floyd, a rematch would be more in favour of a Mayweather win.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
I don't want to see it because I think Floyd made it hard for himself, he was shouting how he was going to have a scrap with maidana and so he did
if they fight again I think he would fight to dominate
maybe im not giving maidana enough credit
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
A rematch will make a ton of money. That's for sure. And that's why it will happen.
Floyd didn't seem to hesitate for even a moment to say "rematch" because he knows Maidana made him look human. I've never seen him so nervous. This time Floyd actually needs it and he'll fight defensively (but not without trouble because Maidana also learned some stuff in there).
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
Why would anyone not be interested? There are only a couple of other guys out there with Khan being off the table for about a year or whatever, and that was a great action fight. If he were to fight anyone else it should surely only be Porter or Thurman. In a perfect world for me, he'd fight one of those guys and Maidana would the other as a co main, to possibly set up a rematch afterwards:cool:. I'd have no idea whether to pick Maidana against either of those two guys, totally different ballpark than fighting Floyd that's for sure.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
It's a very strong signal that we need Pac vs Floyd to happen, that's the biggie.
Having said that Maidana deserves another shot after that.
I think Floyd will do him in easier next time though, he had a bad night and probably believed his own hype and figured Maidana would be like a sparring match for him.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
Hey if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. People are interested in the fight, fair enough. I'd much rather see Floyd take on Khan at this point, at least it's a new style for Mayweather to try to figure out, and it may be a style that will be very tough for him at this stage in his career.
Maidana managed to make Floyd uncomfortable and win sound rounds, but I really didn't see him accomplish much in terms of damage. He never showed he could hurt Floyd. He showed in the early rounds that he could be so aggressive that Mayweather would become too defensive and give away rounds. That was his shot, and he came close but it didn't happen. Mayweather figured it out and took over in the 2nd half so I really don't see what Mayorga could do differently and I think Mayweather would just pick up where he left off and it would be much more lopsided.
I think at this stage in Floyd career, where he is noticeably slower and there to potentially be hit, a guy like Khan has a much better chance with his speed. He can possibly move and shoe-shine to win rounds. And a guy like Porter or Thurman, guys who have TRUE WW KTFO power, could really batter Floyd.
Those fights appeal to me much more, but if people think Maidana can improve and beat Mayweather in a rematch, cool, let's see it again.

Freudian slip? Would have been a similar match up, though.;D

Imagine if Maidana had kept the horse-hair, punchers' gloves... which are NOT illegal. Floyd was just scared shitless of getting hit.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
The words Mayweather & exciting fight don't often frequent the same conversation, nor do Floyd & close fight. Of course yes. This was worth the money, money made and money I paid. I don't buy Mayweather with the 'next time its a totally different fight'.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
Naw I'm not interested in no stinkin rematch involving a club fighter.
Floyd won clearly and a rematch would be boring because floyd is going to adjust and stay out of harms way.
I wouldn't even watch it for free.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
Not at all.
Maidana would need to work the way he did in round one for 12 round, which is unlikely.
Maidana showed the world how to win a few rounds against Floyd, lets see if the next can learn from it and expand to actually beating Floyd.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
Why have a rematch when like 90 percent of sane boxing fans and sites thought he won the fight clearly. Then again he only has a few fights Aurm owns pac so why not a rematch this time most likely will be on the favor of Mayweather remember the last rematch he had was pretty different.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
A rematch with Maidana would leave only two more fights (supposedly) but I think it is worth it: he went toe to toe and had a hard time. Now let's see what happens when he chooses to box (gloves will be a bit less relevant there).

That is what has happened with Floyd in the past but there is really no way of knowing that will hold true in his future. How many times did we expect fighters to come out with a fight plan and end up with something different?
I like Porter and have been following him. Would rather see Porter fight Canelo and think he is not fast enought for Floyd just as Canelo.

Afraid? I was pulling for Maidana to knock out Floyd.
People seem to have the idea that because I defend Floyd and don't go along with the mindless bashing of him, I have a hard on for the guy and he's my favorite fighter.
If I wanted Floyd to win, I'd want the Maidana rematch. Instead I'd rather see him fight a young murderer at WW like Porter.
Re: Anyone else not interested in a Maidana rematch?
Not really. There was some tension, and i suppose that made it intriguing for a while, but it wasn't a particularly clean fight to watch. Too much fouling. Add to the that, i don't think it was even a close fight. I'd say Cotto had more grounds for a rematch, but again, that wasn't particularly close either.
I'd rather see him fight Khan over Porter. Porter should fight Brook.
