Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
Floyd admits one thing though, that Maidana shocked him with his jabbing ability. That's something that Robert Garcia developed in Chino because he sure as fuck wasn't doing work with his jabs before.
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
Floyd is probably right that Cotto was tougher and Canelo hits harder than Chino. Floyd deliberately took liberties against Chino because he knew he could get away with it.

I agree with that, absolutely. Garcia had done good things with Maidana. Maidana needs some credit too, he had the brains to know he needed to make some drastic changes to truly compete at the top, plus he listens to his corner.
Garcia has a good team.
For some reason a lot of people seem to rag on Garcia as being overrated, but I think his work with Chino proves he is one of the top guys in the business IMO. The Maidana who whipped Broner and almost beat Floyd isn't the same guy who lost to Khan and Alexander.
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
I caught Mayweather being quite dirty actually.
He must have thought the headbutt was deliberate because he threw a fair few elbows over the next couple of rounds.
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
Maidana was dirty but floyd shouldn't talk about dirty his second favorite punch is the forearm/elbow
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
Floyd's spent most of his career using his forearm and elbows to create space, so it's not like he's a choir boy in there either.
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
Floyd boxes with a perma-chicken wing elbow ff. Practically needs a glove on it. I knew it wouldn't take long for whatever respect gained in that scrap to dissipate once he started Floyding it again ;D Whaah.

Yeah but he turned it up a notch, this time. There were some real crafty elbows being flung in there by Floyd.
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
His elbows are one of his biggest weapons against inside fighters who crowd him. Ricky Hatton found that out as well.
It's very crafty how he uses them. He always knows where the referee is and he'll use whichever arm is on the ref's blind side and use the arm that the ref can see to hide it.

Well if they were designing barbies, I'd understand but in a fight.....
....using ur elbows are just about fair .... It all depends n the judge.
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
If Cotto beats Martinez Floyd will rematch him instead. Otherwise probably a Maidana rematch.

I don't think Floyd has anything to worry about in a rematch. They'll ensure the ref will call all Maidana's blatant fouls including dick shots, hip shots, back punches, rabbit punches, tackles and elbows...not to mention the time he bit Floyd's hand. Maidana will be DQ'd but Floyd will box his ears off before the fight is stopped.
Re: Floyd on Maidana rematch
I think the fight would have favored maidana more had tony weeks not been so fucking inthe way and let more infighting happen.

Funnily enough Floyd said the referee allowed too much dirty tactics from Chino and that he wanted another ref for the next bout.

These guys aren't boy scouts in there. In Jake Lamotta's book, he alluded to the fact that SRR and a lot of the other slicksters he fought did the same shit, only they would use their forearms and elbows as weapons to catch a guy coming in with. He also admitted that it was common practice back in the day to throw a hook in such a fashion that if the punch missed, the follow-through forearm or elbow wouldn't. When you have a sport where the two main objectives are to hurt a guy as much as you can and to stop the other guy from hurting you as much as he can, guys are going to resort to shady tactics every now and then.
In Floyd's defence, I can't remember him ever throwing an elbow or using it to create concussive impact (like a head butt, rabbit punch or low blow would), just to create discomfort to create space.
A lot of people rag on Klitschko for holding, saying stuff like "ahhh jab and grab, he's a bum, if he wasn't allowed to hold he'd get KO'd every time, ect". Well, Ali made a career out of doing the same shit and he's considered the greatest of all time.
