Haven't seen him in years or heard much about him in his retirement. He died far too young at 59.
What an absolute warrior he was in the ring. Equal to Gatti in my opinion, even Chico Corrales I'd dare say.
He gave boxing fans many thrills.
R.I.P. to a hell of a man.

R.I.P. He was a phenomenal fighter and in my opinion, may have been more exciting n dramatic than Gatti n Chico. All three were great warriors n left too early....

I always get him confused with Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.
Boxing is a cruel sport man. Dude was in the HOF and living on the streets. What other sports can you think of where they actually have HOF athletes living in homeless shelters? Poor guy.

Great fighter, crying shame to end up on the streets and dead at 59. RIP Champ.
It seems that he suffered from Lou Gehrigs disease and that claimed him in the end. From being abandoned at age 5 to getting back off the canvas to win fights on numerous occasions and then ending up on the streets and dealing with such a devastating disease, It seem life was one big long drawn out fight for the man. He was also originally up for the part of Clubber Lang in Rocky, good article here

This is really fucked up. The man fought with a fire and resiliency you can only hope to face day to day life with. One of the very best and truest fighters in every sense of the word I call a favorite. He deserved far better than going out exactly like he came into this world, alone, in need and painful. Saad is legend, to sit through and experience the Lopez and Johnson is to feel yourself age within the hour, in a great way. Be at peace Champion.
