what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I had it 6 rounds to 6 but with the two knockdowns I had Provo winning. It was a close fight. I'm not upset at the decision but I thought that Provo probably deserved it at the end but it wasn't a terrible decision.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I didn't bother scoring the fight because right off the bat I figured it would end in Prov KO, but I got the feeling that Algieri won. Prov seemed to fall victim to the classic early knockdown curse, where he hurt a guy bad early and then tried to force the KO the rest of the way.
The reality is, you score on clean punching and effective aggressiveness, and I really didn't see Prov land a whole lot that wasn't blocked or at least partially blocked. In contrast, Algieri was constantly VISIBLY snapping Prov's head back with clean, accurate blows.
I had no gripes with the decision at all. I found myself constantly disagreeing with the HBO scorecard, and often had to question what Prov actually did to win the rounds that they were giving to him.
And that's saying a lot for me to say that, because Prov is my favourite current fighter in boxing. I thought he lost the fight.
-
Man!! I can't watch two fights and they both turn out to be unusuall in one way or another.
According to you guys, Martinez did and did not lose because of a bad knee. Now Provodnikov was and was not robbed in a decision.
Sometimes the money bothers me a little but don't mess with my PPV, there is nothing better than your own eyes.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I thought Prod did enough to win but it was a very close fight so I am not notching about the decision. Algeri fought the good fight. I actually thought it would be over by the third round.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
Algeri got off the floor and took over.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I scored it a draw 113-113 but I have no problem with the 114-112 scorecards for Algieri.
The first round was 10-7 and gave Provodnikov an early lead, but Algieri outboxed Provodnikov in most of the rounds.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I had it 114-112 Provodnikov :(

i'm just glad they scored it for the right guy.
Algeri got off the floor and took dude to school....he caught a few hard ones along the way but he still got it done.
Provo's head was getting snapped back on the regular and he as get beat on the inside too.

Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?

I'm sure we all knew Ruslan would have trouble against a guy who can move
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
Naturally Hbo scored it for Prov. They dont want boxers on their telecasts.
This is comedy gold. Week in and week out. The must literally have a list of people to draw from.

Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
So this is a fight where better connected guy lost or...?
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
115-111 Provo. On replay had Algieri nicking the 8th. 5th was his first strong round of substance boxing I thought, and the 7th was a microcosm of the fight.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I think Algieri just nicked it, it was one of them fights you could not scream and shout about who,
the clear winner was,! it was a good entertaining scrap.:dontknow:
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
Algieri deserves full credit and major respect, because the kid showed HUGE heart. He got off the deck and took charge with an eye that was closing rapidly since the first round. Reminded me of JMM/Pac 1.
Listen, I understand pro boxing is not amateur boxing and it isn't necessarily about who lands more. But when you got a guy landing so clean consistently and the power puncher is having most of his shit blocked and is not being effective with that aggression and power, you can't just give him the round over the clean, effective shots.
I guarantee you guys if you watch the fight without the commentary, you'll score more rounds for Algieri. Jim Lampley is fucking HORRIBLE for overreacting to blocked and/or missed punches. He's always done it.

I thought Algieri won it the 114-112 cards was a good card Prov was looking for only one shot while Algieri was snapping he's head back multiple times on almost every round and only rarely stayed on the ropes for a few seconds.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I was just making sure I wasn't going crazy. Steve weisfeld kept scoring rounds for Provo that I thought algieri clearly won. It was a close fight so I wouldn't have thought it would have been a bad decision either way but I'm just surprised that the judges weren't told before the fight that Provo is their guy so make sure he wins.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I had Algieri well ahead on rounds.
Not so much on pts due to the knockdowns.
Can't remember exactly but it was like 115-111 Algieri.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
Ruslan should of never let him get out of the first

I had a problem with it.
The guy ran, stole some rounds (4 on my card) and landed some good pitter pat shots. Showed great heart.
But he did not win. He did not take Provodnikov's title.
He was dropped twice, repeatedly hit with clean, harder punches and forced to retreat, bouncing off all 4 corners for most of the fight.
Provodnikov won on my card. No doubt. And I'm not a big fan of the economical plodder.

Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I had it a draw counting the knockdowns. Thought Algieri was gone in round two when they went back to their corners.

I had this at a glance cause I wasnt finger counting shots i saw clear i was just watching the thing but some rounds early i was thinking gee I could go either way here.

But hey wtf Algieri was scoring clean hard shots while going backwards all night thats whats people are having trouble with.
Anyway I have no problem with the decision as the dude has balls and a chin and is a smarter fighter, many in his position would have folded but he came on like Marquez did against Pac that time after going down early.
I thnk he'll do even better next time cause Ruslan is so open to an over hand right bomb all night long and that wasnt even touched on once due to Algieri moving backwards. But someone smart like Algeri is going see that on the replay and catch the plodding fucker coming in even harder next time.
Something I noticed, Algieri seemed a touch gun shy on right hand at times

its amazing how Algieri can box and move and have such heart without an armature career. He showed he can hang with the top he's tall good reach moves great and he throws alot of punches. I'm looking forward to see him fight again
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I just can't see it and I try to be as open as the next guy. Never hold pure boxing or backfoot against a guy at all but what I saw was a lot of stay alive skirmish boxing. Watch round 2 and tell me that was solid hit and get out ring control. That was smoke and leave me alone. Tons of half punching with tons of misses. In fairness to be expected as he did well to get out of 1st and needed to recover and did so. The kid rose up and battled brass balls, just as we have seen him do before, but just feel a slower Provo with even less output controlled and dictated more to win. If I watch round 7 over and over its basically the fight. Pressure by Provo, some decent jabs and rights bounce off him, Chris shifts his hands around and postures then gets moved and takes the harder more impacting lefts and bodywork and resets. Its a pick your poison kind of fight and fully appreciate the underdog battling tough and showing some poise and gameplan, but in no way can I see him taking more than 5 rounds with what that was vs the effect and damage Provo was able to show payoff for.

Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
How do you get two 112-114 cards with a 117-109 card? How can the disparity be that wide the other way? That is a truck load of horse shit regardless of who the winner is. Is it a 10 point must system or isn't it? Who hit who more? Thats the bottom line not who came forward more or who's face was more marked up. What did you see? That 117-109 card is a freakin joke.

I'm sorry but I feel embarrassed for people who scored Prov winning the fight. Maybe at a push you could give him it by a round, but for instance the 117-109 was a disgrace.
It seems to point to mindless mauling and missing as a good thing.
A couple of the rounds you've given Prov he landed like no punches in, how do you give him those rounds?
It shows that some people appreciate guys who are one dimensional, with 0 technique, who can score a knockdown.
The only reason people made a case for him is because he gave you a knockdown in round one.
I'd bet my house that if he had not knocked Algieri down in round one you wouldn't have given him some of the later round he was given and Algieri would have won a land slide.
Algieri won the fight, clearly, with one eye, comeback after being down twice, as 7/2 underdog, to win a world title.
We should be concentrating on where this new found top level fighter goes next. He has made a big fan of me.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
i gave algieri round 2 and 7-11. i felt that provo lost a ton of steam on his punches halfway through the fight and that the punches just werent landing as cleanly as before. algieri was very consistent during the fight. he basically did the same thing every round. each round mainly depended on whether or not provo could consistently land hard, clean shots. again, i had provo winning because of the knockdowns but it was a close fight either way and i dont think that either guy clearly won the fight.
-
Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
114-113 Ruslan Provodnikov

Ive always said when judges are so far wide of the mark they need a mark against their name and three marks down and they are out of there for good.
the sport needs cleaning up and these types would be a great point to start with.

Im not arguing, I wasnt counting shots like I said ,I just watched relaxed, they are my honest scores just on straight viewing. You may not score body shots I dont know. I have no trouble with Aligeri winning either for all the other reasons. You mentioned hits taken, I dont count glances or touches as they do in amateur fights, or checked or disrupted shots either. I count shots with percussion and effect that is more leaning toward professional style of scoring.I'll watch it again sometime and actually count percussive shots on my fingers and on paper and score it properly, see what happens eh .

At the bolded, I scored it like that also. I don't count a guy throwing pitter patter shots as winning the round or flurrying to try to steal the round. That's amateur boxing, not pro boxing. A prime example of pitter patter stuff?
This sequence in the Hagler-Leonard fight. Count how many clean hard shots Leonard landed.

Yeah but count how many clean hard shots Hagler landed.
Pitter patter that lands clean is better than a knockout punch that is dodged or blocked.

1stly, that's not the correct way to score, clearly. If that was the correct way to score then you had 2 wrong judges? You have it that Prov was robbed?
And sure I see what you voted for, but like I said, you can say what you want about the judges but you're scoring rounds for Provodnikov that I struggle to find punches connecting, I don't see how you can be a boxing fan and score this badly.
Also your thinking is basically shitting on any fighter that can't punch or make auditorium echo.
We have a go at judges constantly but then I see this and it makes me wonder if some people have the right to question them.
Each to their own though.

You need to read my post correctly and not put words into it that wernt there. I never mentioned robbery, I said I scored in a relaxed mode of just viewing a fight .Try re reading my posts from the beginning correctly and relax a touch when you reply to me. You also said a couple of rounds Prov landed no shots which rounds? Anyone know where I can see this fight again?

Re: what did everybody score the provo/algieri fight?
I haven't seen the fight
im might watch it, but I doubt it as all my tv watching time is dedicated to the world cup
and I might watch martin murray on saturday
