Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
George Foreman scored it 116-111 for Jose, Larry Merchant had it 114-112 for Jose, Harold Lederman had it 115-111 for Castillo. What a Highway Robbery. THAT was the way to beat Floyd, get him on the ropes and fire away, bust his body up, outpunch him, snap his head back again and again. Castillo sure had his number and deserved the CLEAR VICTORY.

Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
I can't remember how I scored it, I think I had Castillo winning 7-5.
To Floyd's credit, he made the adjustments after that fight and the rematch wasn't nearly as competitive.

This is the driving reason why I don't want Mayweather vs Maidana 2....
They should call it: May vs. Mai 2 - "Adjustments will be May'd" (see what I did there) ;)
-
Castillo was a beast at 135 and should have won that first fight. Floyd doesn't get enough credit for taking Castillo on and dominating the rematch after making the adjustments. In my opinion, the Castillo was more impressive than the Chico or Hatton wins. The other two were more complete stoppage wins, but in my opinion prime Castillo was a better n more complete fighter than the other two. Plus, he was HUGE for that weight against Floyd.

Very true, although I do rate Hatton above JLC.
JLC was an absolute beast at that time and a very large LW.
People call Floyd a pussy and a ducker, but he fought JLC with a torn rotator cuff and gave him an immediate rematch afterwards.

I thought Floyd won both fights. He's still undefeated. Ppl are always trying to picks holes in FM career. Even Maidana some are saying he won, well ok, looks like Maidana will get his chance again..now see what happens ?
You know if these guy were really better, they'd be able to do it again. You seen it with Froch-Groves which was controversial 1st time around were everyone saying (Me included) that the ref should not have stopped
But now it's looking like the greatest stoppage of all time because Froch almost certainly would have finished him off. Nevertheless they fought again and the result was even more emphatic 2nd time around, which is often what usually happens in rematches that were made because the 1st fight was controversial.
The winner of the 1st fight is often the winner of the 2nd fight
(And please no-one come with examples to disprove what I said was wrong. I know there will be examples to disprove what I said but I'm talking generally)

Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
I saw Castillo on the undercard of Chavez v Gamache and thought that he was the best fighter on the card. Erik Morales and Enrique Sanchez also fought that night. I have never seen this fight, with Mayweather, which is pretty unlikely, but I'm going to watch it now.

Castillo beat him clearly. By four points, I thought.

That settles it.
If grey days Castillo beat him then Castillo beat him.
I've always thought so as well.

Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
Yep, he sure did.
...and Castillo was basically a poor man's Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
Before Castillo, Mayweather fought the best guys at their best.
After the Castillo scare of 2002, Floyd began cherry-picking and avoiding the top, prime elite fighters for the next 8 years or so.
-
Man, I have to disagree that Floyd cherry picked. Hatton was in his prime and was considered a viable threat after beating Kostya. Baldomir was a much larger fighter and was the lineal champ coming off of a HUGE upset of Zab Judah. Canelo Alvarez was considered a viable threat to Floyd. Shane Mosely was considered a threat after destroying Margarito, n Floyd had been trying to fight him for close to a decade before he ended up beating him.
I would've liked to have seen Floyd fight Oscar n Mosely sooner and fought Paul Williams, Kostya, n Manny. That being said, I can't put all of the blame on him for those fights not happening, as I feel circumstances n the the other fighters themselves had as much to do with those fights not happening.
Floyd is a great fighter. All Time Great Fighter. In the discussion for best fighter of the last 30 years with legends like Leonard, Hagler, Whitaker, Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins, Evander Holyfield, Duran...etc. He ISN'T in the discussion for G.O.A.T., due to missed opportunities n lack of HOF prime opponents available. To day that he ducks

To say that he ducks anyone or hand picked opponents just isn't accurate either. He is without question an all time great fighter n more than willing to face the biggest challenges, assuming the money is right.

He said PRIME elite sir. Not fighters who once were elite. Gatti was past he's best daya when he fought Floyd

Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
Aaron Pryor, Duran, Sugar ray 1 and 2, both would whip the daylights out of that little chicken-thief elbower and ballerina coward Floyd Mayweather Jr.
-
Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
yeah, floyd won the rematch, ill give him that. but his "O" should have gone away in that first fight for sure!!! a loss is a loss. im tired of the stations BOY always getting the nod.
-
Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
yeah he is def not undefeated
-
Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
I think a lot forget floyd only had 1 hand in the 1st fight and no matter who you though won it was a close competitive fight. In the rematch floyd easily beat him with two hands.

This little dude sure is bitter...I wonder what underlying issue he has.

I had the fight scored 114 to 112 for Castillo. Floyd got outworked.

I think I'm also in agreement with most. Castillo should have received the decision.

Have you even spent the time to look at the Castillo/Mayweather 1 fight, cyclone ? The whole thing, not just highlights?

seen it several times...it was a close fight that could have gone either way.
Mayweather was injured and proved it by winning the immediate rematch.
If visiting this old fight makes you feel better then have at it...it doesn't change anything.;D

The decision was very controversial; that's why there was a rematch.
Who do you think deserved the decision?
By what margin?
Who won what rds?
Let's see some cajones behind the huffiness, dude, something solid by you like a scorecard by you; otherwise it's just lightweight fluff, posturing, and internet tuffguy posing...

I just told you it was a close fight that could have gone either way....I'm not giving you a scorecard, stumpy.
He gave the guy an immediate rematch and beat him going away.

cyclone, if you don't have what it takes to put something solid down, something with real depth that you can stand behind that other Boxing fans can respect because you put some time and effort into it, weeelll...

An Indian...no wonder you're always hating;D
I noticed that about ya'll.
I'm not giving you a round by round scorecard...I just told you it was a CLOSE fight that could have gone EITHER WAY.
There isn't a SINGLE fighter that doesn't have one of those either way fights.
Now go back and watch the fight and get that feeling of satisfaction you sorely need ...and try to pretend Floyd didn't kick that ass in the rematch.
-
Re: Re-watched Castillo-Mayweather---WOW did Jose kick Floyd's behind!
Was it a close fight? Absolutely. I have watched that fight numerous times and it always plays out the same way (also do yourself a favor and watch it without the pathetic HBO commentary). Floyd won the first half of the fight...Castillo came on stronger in the second half. People love to just give the fight to JLC for being more "aggressive". But overall...Floyd landed the cleaner punches and controlled the fight with his jab (and lets not forget Floyd knocking down JLC in the second round and it being called a slip). Castillo fought pretty dirty as well (hitting after the break numerous times). Add to that...so many peoples dislike of Floyd just won't let them judge a close fight without bias. It was Floyd's toughest fight (major props for him taking on someone of JLC's caliber at his first fight at lightweight) but he showed heart (fighting with injury) and won a close fight. But hey...the haters need something to hang their hats on.

Indian ?!!
I resent that.
Indians are from India.
First Nations people (such as the bradguy himself) are from right here, MikanakOMinisi, Turtle Island, the Americas. Our many, many languages originated right here.
Just 'cause some homicidal jack@$$ got lost 500 years ago and labelled the people "Indians" doesn't mean folks nowadays should keep reiterating his colossal mistake. I'm Anishinabe, not Indian.
Quit changing the subject though, stop mayweathering the issue !
Listen, if you're not up to the scorecard challenge because you're too lightweight for it or because you lack the stones, then just let us all know.
Whether you do it or not is all about character (or lack thereof :) ), expressed to all the fight-fans in this forum.
I'd like to see your scorecard for Castillo/Mayweather 1, perhaps other fight-fans here would also?
