Showtime Triple header: Berto, Matthysse and a guy named Broner

Seriously...Triple header! WAKE UP :) Might not be the most spectacular 'name' competition ( Showtime..please break this new trend ) but its boxing. We like boxing :-X.

Andre Berto gets back to business taking on an expected to be real soft touch in Steve upsher Chambers 24-3-1 (6). Then again any man winless in three years and off two brutal wars and injury can assume nothing and take no one for granted.

Lucas Matthysse is fighting a bit of a mystery man in Roberto Ortiz. Ortiz is undefeated, does not know what losing is and oddly and quite silently has held a wbc trinket over 10 defenses??? That either says even less of the wbc than we already do or Ortiz might have a modicum of credibility. I fully expect this one to be one ugly-ish war...with point deducts...but the judges might just stay over at the Nickel slots because it has ko written on it.

Adrian Broner fights Emmanuel Taylor in a homecoming main event. Taylor is off a good win over Mayfield and a loss to Chris Algeiri in one where his hands often stayed in his pockets. I want to see Broner BOX on that backfoot instead of that wade in, shuck & jive bait shots in the wheel house. Show some growth man. This ring is the size of a one car garage though..the smallest allowed.. and he'll def play seek and destroy. Taylor isn't a total scrub but he should be undersized and badly out sped.

Wooow. Upsher rocked him and won when trading in second. Tight defense and came to win thus far. 1-1
2-1 Berto back on attack. Upsher didn't do much in 3rd, waiting waiting.
2-2 Even up again. Berto, again and still, is just way too easy to catch and his balance is bad. Frankly..he is where he was and think he'll stay there
3-2 Berto back up. Really looking for bombs, jab looks good when used. Soooo much burned energy though. Upsher needs to punch with him again
5-2 Berto . Upsher is going to kick himself in the hotel room later. When he throws...he lands and changes tide
5-3 Berto in so so 8th. Not a lot to pick from. Upshers corner tells him for lack of a better phrase..get your head of your ass, he cannot fight backing up.

I was impressed with Berto, both in his performance and attitude post fight. Seems like he's taken his losses to heart and is serious about making a come back.

I know he wasn't in there with a world beater, but he showed great mechanics in there. When you have a guy with his natural speed and athletic ability who utilizes the jab so effectively, you've got a hard night for anyone in the division. Virgil has done great work with him. Nice to see him setting up with the jab and also jabbing out of exchanges. Not amazing stuff, but not bad at all for a guy coming off two losses/layoff/injuries/ect.

I am actually excited for next weekend as I am not one of the ones that thinks that floyd made the first fight hard on purpose

I've always liked Berto to. Good to see : I'm looking healthy. I think they should put him in the ring with the ghost again, that will probably drum up some interest. Berto is one of the guys who may not be great but I've always been a big fan of his, I guess we all have fighters like that. He may have needed to consider retirement had he gone down in flames this eve

Ortiz looked like he tried to get up at 8 but couldn't. But he didn't look like he was gonna recover from it fast so it woulda been over that round or the next anyways.

He did just beat the count, bad reffing. Ortiz just looked kind of akward though, not very good. Doubt we got robbed of any two way action or anything.
