It's typical of the mass of boxing fans, who I don't even really regard as boxing fans, jump on a bandwagon then off again the minute a fighter fails to prove what an "expert" they are. Matthysee was gonna kill Garica for the majority, he didn't, therefore he's rubbish, not Garcia is better than thought. Backwards thinking.
Mattyhsse is still among the top must watch fighters in the world.
I'm still a huge Matthysse fan. I think a lot of people saw him as this huge puncher and nothing more so when he lost to Garcia, he was "exposed" in their eyes. He's a better boxer than some people give him credit for. He adapts either through advice from his corner or through what he sees, like in the Molina fight.
I won't say I though the Garcia fight was all wrong for Lucas. Was Garcia better than most gave him credit for? At the time i would have said yes. Seeing him since then I'm not so sure. But I also think Lucas made a big mistake changing his prefight preparations. Moving his Training here instead of back home where hes comfortable and the press tour seemed to take him out of his zone. The spotlight definitely doesn't agree with him, so he's better off flying under the radar till he's in the ring. He seems to be a pretty good simple guy, and he's a fighter by by nature (His mom, dad, brother and sister are/were fighters) . Trying to make him a media darling or trash talking d0uche just really seems to water down the fighter in him. He does seem to have some serious intent for that Garcia rematch though.
It says a lot about what's wrong with boxing when Showtime insists on shoveling shat uphill and giving Broner struggling with c level guys top billing ahead of just a solid well rounded world class professional like Matthysse. But obnoxious loud fools attract attention. Then again, so does a car crash. Matthysse is must see tv and very much at the top of my fan appreciation list. People, fans sometimes only remember the 'bad' or when a guy has adversity slap him in the face. He takes an L vs Garcia who fought one of his better game plans and then gets dropped by an assumed gimme with Molina. Therefore the " ohh he lost confidence, he's on a decline" gets thrown around. How about just maybe we, some, looked over Molina. Just like just maybe we looked over an assumed Herrera who made Garcia look often clueless and lost? Fans can have a very short term memory and attention span. Sometimes it starts at home too, that card was a ghost ship as far as media promotion and attention on here save for a few. Make no mistake , the sport would greatly benefit from more humble all action fighters who only want to fight good comp.
Matthysse is a solid fighter...but he's not from a nation which has a die hard boxing fan base and he's not a cult of personality either. Heck of a fighter though.
Matthysse is a big puncher without a doubt, but sometimes that is not enough he can be out boxed
but because he can punch, and that's something big punchers bring to the table excitement.!
If he's fighting I like to watch him, edge of the seat stuff which is fun, out boxed one second he
lands game over.:)
Maybe the enthusiasm for Mattysse went after his lame effort against Garcia. Yes he had an injured eye but he could have done more. The fight itself was not great.

Garcia fought a world-class fight vs Matthysse and showed a world-class chin in taking bombs from Matthysse that would have left 95-99% of 140lbers flat on their back. He also had the big power to keep Matthysse from just running in.

If it weren't for the eye I think Lucas would have beat Garcia but taking advantage of injuries is a big part of boxing so my statement is moot regardless.
I still think there is a lot of excitement around Lucas but it is lost in the niche sport of boxing.He might as well fight Broner next so the hype about Broner can follow Lucas.
The Herrera fight was supposed to be a non-controversial relatively easy win for the lineal junior welterweight champion, Garcia, in front of his fans in Puerto Rico, considering he was coming off the best win of his career. Instead, it left a bitter taste with many fans because it appeared Herrera beat him but was robbed. I had Garcia losing. He then refused a rematch with Herrera and fought a 40-1 or something underdog in Salka, a junior-lightweight. Whatever good will he built up with people, he's done a good job recently squandering it. He also acts with a real sense of entitlement, like he controls the division. He won't face Peterson until Matthysse gives him a rematch. He won't face Herrera again, but he faced Morales twice. On and On.Quote:

not really sure what is wrong with any of that. Why would he give herrera a rematch? It was a close fight that could have gone either way and Garcia is the champ. Happens all the time in boxing. This isn't old time boxing where people fight each other 5 times. It wasn't an exciting fight the first time so there isn't a demand for it. It doesn't bother me much at the moment that he doesn't give matthysse a rematch because both of them have a lot of other options. If Garcia fights a scrub next fight then I won't be happy but if he does end up fighting postol then that's a good fight and I wouldn't be upset with that. Matthysse is a really good fighter and I think at this point in his career, he needs to forget about Garcia and just keep beating other fighters to get to the top. If he gets there, Garcia will give him a rematch.
Lucas is awesome, I dont know why anyone would think he got exposed against Garcia, he lost a close fight, its not like he went in there and lost 12 zip. As for getting knocked down by Molina who gives a dam he got right back up both times, his chin is fine its not like Molina is a Paulie in the punch department. I would love to see a rematch with him and Danny if not that then lets see him smash Broner.

Is it ok to like both Lucas AND Garcia? I'm a fan of Garcia... he's better than most people wanted to give him credit for. Keeps proving doubters wrong. Half the world thought he was scared shitless of Lucas after watching his destruction of Peterson. They were wrong. As for Lucas, I'll watch him fight any day of the week. So he lost... big deal. He's got scary power that can end a fight at any time. I'm sure many fighters out there still duck him. He goes forward all the time... has faster hands than people give sluggers credit for... and gives fans a great fight for their money. I like them both.
