Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Mine has to be Jermaine Taylor vs. Cory Spinks.
That fight was so bloody boring that it was bored awake... it was mind numbing dross.
Think about the worse cup of coffee you ever had, and being forced to drink it- cold.
That's what Spinks/Taylor was.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Have you ever seen Johnny Nelson v Carlos De Leon. I think that was the worst fight ever. Johnny fought so negatively they would never give him the title and he was at home. Johnny had to spend the next few years fighting abroad because no one wanted to see him.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Mickey Bey vs Vasquez just last weekend was atrocious for a title fight, I'd never seen either and heard Vasquez was actually good! He was unspeakably bad for a "champion", every minuscule bit of action in the whole fight was actually initiated by Bey.

Everyone tries to forget that one. But watch Nelson/Warring, it is actually worse. Rather than both landing one 'slap' a round, like Carlos and Johnny did; Warring won a near shut out, by winning each round one slap to nil.
Involving titlists in non title fights: I also had the misfortune to see Akinwande/Nelson. Imagine Nelson at his running worse, against a man so startled, he perfected his hugging tactics for a future world champ. The worse ever though maybe Alan Minter's third bout with Jan Magdziarz. That was so bad the ref walked out in disgust, disqualifying both fighters! It used to be on Youtube, but does not seem to be there anymore.

Yes you have a fine eye for bad fights.;D

The most boring I have seen, in no particular order:
1) John Ruiz vs Evander Holyfield
2) John Ruiz vs Hasim Rahman
3) Canelo vs Lara
4) Oliver McCall vs Frank Bruno
5) Henry Akinwanda vs anyone I ever saw him fight
-
Just remembered another really bad one: James Warring vs. Al Cole. Honestly, the cruiser weights had some of the most boring and forgettable fights during the 90's. That fight in particular, however, was extremely boring. I think they combined to land 7 or 8 punches over the 12 rounds. Most were jabs and only a couple landed flush.

If you did not have an emotional attachment to the fight, it stunk. The only reason Bruno/McCall cannot be on a list, was due to whether you liked them or not, if you knew boxing, the last couple of rounds were fascinating.
A man desperate to win, fighting all his demons that told him he was going to blow it, against a man who did not seem to care and just presumed he would win late.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
J.C Chavez v Lonnie Smith comes to mind. Ernie Terrell and Eddie Machen if you can sit through the replay, and stay awake. Whitaker and Anthony Jones made me hate my TV and pick fights with the neighbor out of desperation.

Absolutely! Talk about having to force yourself to watch a fight, and Vasquez wonders why Mexican fans don't like him? He received a badly needed reality check when he lost.
Devon Alexander vs Randall Bailey is another that comes to mind. Just a thoroughly dull affair. It was so bad they both received a point deduction in round six for holding.

That was a dud but Warring was spoiling. I think he even lost a point in the 3rd. I liked Cole, good scrap with Uriah Grant followed. Tough as Hell at heavy too, thick chin! Always wished he and Norris would have tried to unify
Oh man, Czyz vs Bash Ali :p. Wamba was entertaining

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Muhammad Ali vs. Alfredo Evangelista
I heard the whole country of Uruguay fell asleep during Round 6.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Roy Jones vs Bhop 1 deserves mention. Fucking brutal.

Definitely see ur point, and I know a ton of fans, especially in England, were excited and enjoyed that fight. I just remember the frustration of watching McCall not do anything except catch punches with his face. That was such a frustrating fight to watch. Kind of like the first half of Hop vs Taylor. I was screaming at the tv because Hop was giving his title away by just waiting Jermain out. The second half was good because Hop increased the pressure and started landing good shots, but the first half was frustrating and boring. Still think Hop won that fight and the rematch, but he was too cute for his own good during that first half of the fight b

I don't remember that one being too bad. Roy was moving pretty well and Hop had a hard time letting his hands go until late in the fight. I remember there being some good action and exchanges down the stretch though. The rematch, other than the 6th round was horrible. I also thought Roy's rubber match with Tarver was pretty boring. Roy looked exhausted and Tarver was kind of hesitant. To me, Roy's best performance was his win vs Tarver. He showed a ton of toughness in that one. I give Roy a hard time for some things, but to me he proved his greatness by overcoming adversity vs a tough challenger in that fight b

When Muhammad fought against Jimmy Young, they were struggling to stay awake after the second!

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Hasim Rahman vs. Monte Barrett
Chris Byrd vs. DaVarryl Williamson
That's what happens when friends fight
-
Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Wladimir Klitschko vs Sultan Ibragimov.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Tyson v Boneclutcher - was a stinker.
Hamed v Soto - was really crappy.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
On a similar note Jones v Toney was not great as it should have been.
Running home with my Australian cousins to show them Danny Williams v Matt Skelton and being embarrassed by both lumps doing very little for 12 rounds.

Well if they gave you grief, remind them that the best Australia had at the time (Mirovic and Meehan) lasted 12 minutes and 32 seconds with them combined...

Snoozer
Ernie Terrell vs. Eddie Machen
All arms and clutching.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Wlad owns a few of these.
Wlad-Povetkin, given the prefight hype, was abysmal.
Staying with the HW division, Lewis-Tua actually put 5 of us to sleep simultaneously, which of course created hilarious picture-taking opportunities for some obviously amused wives.

Re: Most boring title fight you ever saw?
Bika vs. Dirrell II is up there. Fuckin awful.
Nafeoul Ben Rabah vs. Juan Urango was pretty damn terrible, Ben Rabah ran all night and...lost the fight on the cards.
Justice was served imo.

Found Minter/MagdziarzIII: probably best to watch from 8:00...

One for the Teenagers! Ali vs Bugner. I know neither of them are enjoying great health at the minute, but Ali did enough and Bugner did nothing.
