Are greynotsoolds mechanics boxing or are they no longer boxing technque?
What he recommends and with I think good experienced judgement is something thats very far removed from what the majority of boxing gyms would teach you.
Things like having the weight infront of you or on the front foot before a cross or the rear foot before a hook, these recommendations fly in the face of boxers everywhere, its the very opposite of what is being taught.
Do you think what he teaches is superior to modern mechanics and can it be classed as boxing technique since it is so different from what everyone is doing?

Re: Are greynotsoolds mechanics boxing or are they no longer boxing technque?
What exactly are his mechanics? Weight starting on the front foot before a cross? I thought his posts said the exact opposite.

(i) The majority of boxing gyms do not produce elite level boxers.
(ii)Mechanics are mechanics, the human body is a constant. Boxing is boxing.

You're on crack! Grey fights off the back foot.

Re: Are greynotsoolds mechanics boxing or are they no longer boxing technque?
The hardest punchers of all time fought off the back foot joe Louis, rocky marciano and Mike Tyson. Yes Tyson threw the right hand in the exact weight distribution that grey recommends.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=18F3A6zCILw Mike clearly has his weight on the front foot before the right hand.

Re: Are greynotsoolds mechanics boxing or are they no longer boxing technque?
How do you throw a cross with the weight on you back foot????
Makes no sense you need to transfer the weight to your back foot from your front foot to punch correctly.

Im with you, if you are a good boxer and have all the routines down; its time to learn know instinctively when you can get away with all the other moves not taught because they could get the novice in trouble if they moved into one at the wrong time. Theres a big difference between fighting at your own skill level and pushing those limits to fighting to the opponents level and pushing his out of his bounds. There is a point where an unlearning curve can apply.

It actually can be done, and is the way to throw a perfectly straight right hand. It's hard to describe, but by focusing on pulling the left shoulder back and dropping down on your right hip you can turn your body while your weight stays mostly on the back foot. It's a good punch, very solidly rooted, balanced and hard to see. The problem with throwing it like that is the range, it has to be set up well or you won't reach, though the hidden advantage there is you don't give your head when throwing it.

Isn't this how Mike Tyson throws the right hand?

Looks like he maybe rolling his shoulders forward or as scraps says let the shoulder hit your chin.

Sure but that doesn't have anything to do with where his weight is.

Sometimes, sometimes no. He also went southpaw sometimes, he was very dynamic.

Re: Are greynotsoolds mechanics boxing or are they no longer boxing technque?
I was told He was a converted southpaw
-
Re: Are greynotsoolds mechanics boxing or are they no longer boxing technque?
The question still stands did some of the greatest punchers start with their weight on the front foot while throwing the RH. As grey says?
Appears that grey is saying that while on the inside put your weight on the front foot?

Fought off both his front feet at times when in close.

Boxing fundamentals dont change and greynotsoolds breakdowns are the ones I go to as he's usually bang on. Its more then obvious that the guy knows what he's talking about and his experience shows.
I got my golden gloves about 40 years ago and application is application. @greynotsoold is a great boxing analyst.

i think this is a version of clays anchor punch, pulling the left shoulder back and getting the torque out of your right hip,
-
Re: Are greynotsoolds mechanics boxing or are they no longer boxing technque?
I've been practizing grey's its good here's how I think it goes.
1.start with your weight on the left foot!
2.right heel up!
3. Push into the ground with the left foot!
4.fall unto the rear leg kicking the heel out violently right hip points towards your opponent!
5. Pull left shoulder back as hard as you can!
6.Right shoulder should be slanted toward the floor.
It's a hard punch that takes your head off the line. What I like about this punch is that I can start with my weight balanced.
