Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
He was asked directly right after the fight and did the ole "ask my promoter" dance and then proceeded to suggest Hop should fight him and more then once. I was expecting Stevenson to be the first words out of his mouth? I mean we are talking about "undisputed" here.

Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
Based on what happened last time I don't think Kov believes Stevenson will ever fight him. By not calling him out I think he's dissing him as someone of not any importance.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
He already called him out. Multiple times. No one answered the door. In fact Stevenson called the moving van and left town.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
Maybe he's bitter over whatever happened last year is was what I was thinking, or knows something we don't. If Hopkins still has a mandatory position to challenge Stevenson that fight could possibly just go ahead on HBO either way, he could have been told as much beforehand.
Would you give Stevenson much chance against Kovalev? I don't myself but would love to see the fight anyways, there is really nobody else for the Krusher to take on.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
Agree with both of you guys but last night was the time to make it clear. Not a blurb in the press when you are both busy.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
The one at the top of the mountain should be called out, not call out.
But that's just my take.

Sure I give him a chance. He punches as hard as Kov and brings that from the other side. As a fan I'd like to see full 4 unification and one undisputed champion when its possible. Of course its the WBC behind Stevenson so who knows but Joses kid has done a lot of talking recently about having 1 champ.
And lastly the fight would be huge. They could do it in Quebec and bring the house down.

I give Stevenson a chance. His southpaw stance might cause Kovalev some problems. And his left hand is pretty wicked. But if I'm putting money down I'm rolling with Kovalev to weather an early storm and smash Stevenson to pieces.

Yea I would love to see the fight land in Montreal. I just see Stevenson being outmatched in about everything but power, he's a lefty but his footwork isn't nearly as good as Kovalevs. The Krusher throws a really mean lead right I could see being devastating in that fight, since Stevenson doesn't have much of an inside game. If Kovalev looked at all easy to hurt I might be more on the fence, I dunno.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
I don't think Stevenson would take that jab and right down the middle well. The two are total opposites in composure and I'd also say Kovalev grows stronger down the stretch, though in fairness one 12 rounder does not make you a marathon man.
Just wondering, has Stevenson had anything to say this morning?

I see it the same way for the most part but as piss tank Merchant used to say, "boxing is the theatre of the unknown" Oh he spelled theatre different;D;D
One punch can still change everything.
Kov's right is deadly and doomsday for a southpaw but Stevensons straight left is just as deadly against ortho fighters. I just cant see how the boxing God's can let this one go. Its a natural.

Kov is definitely the favorite with his amateur boxing experience giving him the edge. I think if Stevenson doesnt get him out of there early Kov beats him easily on points or by stoppage.

Never heard of the place, is Adonis "Sweetness" Stevenson the owner?

Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
well he pretty much wrote Stevenson off the moment he said that the man he had just dominated would beat Stevenson for the WBC title, in a way he publicly shrugged Adonis off as of no importance

That place looks familiar ;)

Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
He called him a piece of shit on live TV... hopefully we can get the unification fight soon.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
I think because the talk was originally Stevenson-Hopkins before Hopkins got tired of waiting and turned to Kovalev. Kovalev probably expects Hopkins to try and entice Stevenson into a fight now and with Stevenson always out of the office when Kovalev calls and Hopkins viewed as possibly a lower risk higher reward, Kovalev may think that's the route Stevenson will take ;)
I'd love to see the fight but Stevenson already did the disappearing in a cloud of smoke trick so I think it's up to him to chase down Krusher now :)

Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
Well the first time they were supposed to meet. Stevenson bailed and went to showtime didn't he? That's already brings up the network issue. Not to mention I believe Haymon's name was mentioned by kathy duva as partly the reason Stevenson bailed. So this may never come off. If stevenson loses, its back to the pimp business. He and haymon stand more to gain from just grazing on bottom feeders and fringe contenders slowly, coming off a hand injury....

Hopkins just showed that if the best really want the fights they do what needs to be done to get them made ;)

Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
Stevenson will probably avoid this fight, Kovalev would beat the shit out of him.

Because he knows the fight won't be made unless Haymon says so.
Stevenson is running out of opposition. Sooner or later, he is going to have to fight someone. Kovalev is out there. He is willing to fight if presented with the option.
Stevenson has only a few options at LH, and if he ducks and goes to Cruiser or HW without fighting Kovalev, Pascal, Bute, Froch or Ward if they want it, then he is a chump. A massive chump.
Haymon's fighters shouldn't be taken seriously. jmo....

This. Kovalev did acknowledge Stevenson by saying that Bhop would beat him and should go beat him. In my opinion, it's Stevensons' turn to chase Kovalev if he wants to. Kovalev already sued him for bailing on the fight. Why would he want to even give Stevenson the chance? From what Duva said, Pascal is a fight they're considering. That would be a good one in Montreal too.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
Kovalev has a tendency to get square on and could end up on the end of a Stevenson left but he'd be the overwhelming favourite to beat him. A combination of his risk averse promoters and even more risk averse Haymon mean he'll probably just milk his belt in front of home crowds for as long as he can. He's got a keep busy fight coming up and then almost certainly he'll fight Pascal next. After that it depends on how Haymon's new broadcasting setup works out. Kovalev is the last guy they want to put him in the ring with.
-
Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?
I'm not sold on Stevenson, he's an incredible athlete with a great punch, but I think he has a lot of flaws in his game and lacks depth.
I see Kovalev giving him a beat down.

I can't really blame Stevenson, or Haymon, for staying away from Kovalev, they want to ride that pony as long as possible.
Stevenson's days are numbered, if he doesn't want to be branded chicken hearted, he has to face Kovalev. I remember Stevenson saying he wanted to fight anybody except Kovalev.
It's going to be interesting to see how Haymon keeps Kovalev away from Stevenson with Hopkins gone.
Kovalev seemed resigned to the idea of Stevenson being out of his reach before Hopkins decided to go down in weight. It's getting interesting!

Re: Why didn't Kov call out Adonis?

Anything can happen in a fight, but will Stevenson be mentally tough enough to let Kovalev get that close.
You can hit Kovalev, but then you can be hit. It's a big problem.
