I'm fighting 29th November
So two fights in three weeks for me this lad is 2-1 and he was stopped in his last one. Ryan Fitz v Martin Jackson - Ringside Fight Club Wirral - YouTube here he is in action in the black

Re: I'm fighting 29th November
A few notes from the vid (and guys, feel free to correct me if I get it wrong)...
When he reaches with the jab he drops his right
His chin is up and out nearly the entire fight
He seems to like the right uppercut a bit
Eager to hook instead of jab
Very long and wide with his punches
Very predictable throwing left-right-left-right...never doubles up like jab, left hook, or 2 left hooks in a row.
From that I would say if you stick to a Tyson-esque metronome side to side bobbing and weaving you can get inside relatively easy. He's there wide open to be hit...couldn't tell if he had much power at all, seemed wild with his punches but predictable as well. Watch when he jabs that right hand drops below his chest leaving you a perfect opportunity to slip the jab, counter right, follow with the left hook. You should be very capable of establishing the jab on him although he is a bit lanky his jab sucks.
I think you're a class above this cat, but just focus on getting in shape. Have your lungs, your legs, and be ready to carry your power for this fella. I think you can take him Tam!

Cheers for that. Yeh I feel fine fighting him and I have a feeling the first round might be the toughest. He's there to be hit for sure!

Re: I'm fighting 29th November
Hate to keep mentioning it, BUT if you get your right cross working this guy will be WIDE FUCKING OPEN for that feint right followed with the big left hook....you already see how his arms are moving forward, out, right hand down.....the guy is a sitting duck if your timing, movement, and accuracy are there. Let your weight shift (from right foot to left foot) when you feint the right (1. that helps sell the feint 2. that allows you to load up on the punch 3. it gives you a little time to assess the effectiveness of your feint) if he buys the feint you'll see his hands move, he'll likely step straight back and you're ready for liftoff with that giant left hook and then it's Goodnight Sweetheart for Mr. Black Trunks.
Get stuck in, work that jab and put him on the defensive....you'll hammer that dude out if you are properly prepared.
I'm looking forward to this fight almost as much as you!
P.S. if you try the right feint, left hook, keep your right hand glued to your cheek in case he tries to counter

It will be good and I will try that combination for sure. Hope I can get a good win here going into the second fight. I'm fighting in the same venue but on rival promoters cards ;D

He had no defense when he was throwing, he opened right up and jumped forward.
Depending on your style, you could look to land right uppercuts on him all night.
That or as he lunged take a step back and 1, 2 him.
Get it on video so we can analyze you Tam :D

(sigh)
Alright...
He moves straight back often
He has his lead hand pretty low
He has little stamina
He throws 1-2 punches at a time
Very deliberate in his approach
Does tuck his chin in well and can roll the right cross decently if he times it right
Again not mixing up his punches well, it's ALWAYS left-right-left-right
He looks open to any number of punches. He moves his head much like he throws punches, always left then right, left then right.
I think a good 1-2 needs to be set up right away. He doesn't seem to handle punches well as far as defense goes.
0:56 of the fight you can tell how he reacts thinking a 1-2 combination is coming....use that feint to close distance and BOOM goes the dynamite with the left hook.
If you can trap him against the ropes another favorite combination of mine (inspired by Tyson)...quickly left hook body, right hook body, left hook head, right uppercut head, left hook head or body. It's a very quick almost shoe shining kind of combination once you get used to quickly transferring your weight quickly and find the right balance of speed and power.
And watch for weakness in that arm he injured...if that arm is weak go for the kill early on! Stop that bum!!!!
-
Re: I'm fighting 29th November
Keep it tight Tam lad and wait for him to quit like a bitch, like he did in that vid ;)
-
Re: I'm fighting 29th November
Are you good at closing distance? he does that reset thing with his feet very regularly. Stay close to him and steal a right hand lead on him when he shuffles his feet.
You can end this one early if you know how to shift your feet. Every time the guy in black threw the wide right hand the other guy leaned back, stepped back and then kind of circled out to his left. Give him the wide right hand and make him pull out like he does. When you throw the right hand- and watch him, he pulls back feet together and hands down so he can't hit you- slide your right foot up (past your left foot) and to your right. Then shift your weight over it and throw a left hand- a 'southpaw' left because your right foot will be in front.
You'll hit him going back, hands down, and he won't see it coming.

Re: I'm fighting 29th November
Tam if you keep it simple, if you keep it elementary you're going to hammer the crap out of this guy (either guy really). Keep your feet under your shoulders, maintain a good solid base and don't let yourself get off balance. When you throw your left, cover with your right, and vice versa. When you throw a punch snap it back and make sure your defense is tight.
Pump the jab, establish the right cross, do the damage with the left hook...finish off combinations with the left hook as it puts you in a nice defensive position. Be sure to work the body.
Both fighters in your video are like fighters out of Mike Tyson's Punch Out, they are both very rhythmic in their attack and defense. The punches they throw are left, right, left, right...so in your bobbing and weaving FEEL THAT, know that, use that to your advantage especially when throwing counter punches: A jab is coming, slip, counter right, slip their right that's coming, counter left hook, etc. Their head movement as well is also left, right, left, right...very simple, very basic and something you can take advantage of by doubling the jab, using the lead right cross, doubling up on the left hook, digging to the body at the right time.
Mike Tyson had the uncanny ability to lull a fighter to sleep with his metronome like movement....bend left, bend right, bend left, bend right....his opponents would try to time him and once in closer Tyson would bend left, come back to almost center, then dip down left again and this would open up a window for Tyson to land clean hard crisp punches on his opponents. You can time these guys, you can predict how they will throw their punches, and you can catch them blind just keep your base under you, have your weight ready to shift and you'll have them out easy.
If they are hard to catch, or you're having trouble closing distance, tie up, before the ref can break you, initiate the break and let the hands go. Remember it' NOT a foul unless you're punching when the REF breaks you...you MUST initiate the break BEFORE the ref gets there.
Should they catch you, also have a plan if you're hurt. Stay out of "no man's land", either get real close, or get far away, clinch, push off, do what has to be done.

Nice, switching forward to close distance or cut off the ring and generate power in it.

Tam, as always good luck. You are quickly becoming my favorite boxer. Screw Mayweather and the lot, I'm for Tam the Hammer. When you get to the US I hope you will hook me up with some good seats. I love to sit next to celebrities. By the way Tam, I'm not asking for specifics but do you make decent money for a fight, I hope you do, it's dangerous at any level. God luck again.

Perhaps you should use Homer's ringwalk music from the Drederick Tatum fight....

Watch when that guy throws his right hand. He'll throw it from way way too far away and his chin gets way in front of the rest of his. Right there to get hit with a hook or right hand if you can make him reach for you.
Another thing he does when he throws his right hand, is he squares up his feet. You can time that with your own right hand, like Groves did to Froch in the first round of the first fight.
-
Re: I'm fighting 29th November
You'll also notice the guy stutter steps before he throws all the time....time that and you're golden

He doesn't double up on the left or right unless he sees he has a fighter in danger so again that's easier to time, easier to block/parry
When he throws the jab the right hand also drops....RIGHT CROSS + LEFT HOOK
He reaches with the jab often so he's really REALLY asking for a huge counter right. If you can time and slip that jab you can land clean on him.
2nd round he's keeping the right hand higher on advice from his corner but he falls back into the trap of dropping the right very quickly.
Keep your punches quick, straight, and snappy so you'll punch through his wider power punches.
That big right hand he has takes a looooooong time to get where it's going...look to pick that and counter back.
Not that the guy your fighting looks like John Ruiz, but what Toney responds with is something that will work on this guy

And keep your head moving (you'll have to skip to the part where Teddy is working with Mike in the ring)

Cheers for that, he looks in shape I agree. The guy he was fighting was useless though and I didn't see him really throw anything properly? I agree straight punches will be work, I'll be aware of his big shots as well. My best mates cousin who's just turned pro trains at his gym and he said it will be a good fight!

Yeah, no doubt his opponent was very wet behind the ears but I think it's quite telling that Martin Jackson didn't jump on him right away. So either the kid had some pop or Jackson doesn't trust himself very much in the ring. If that's the case, then stunning Martin early will help out too.....do like Cus told Ali and like RJJ did....in the first round just once set your feet and get in a good hard clean punch to A) win the round (hopefully) and B ) to see how he handles it.
I think the right cross will be there for you and I believe your left hook will really throw him for a loop.
This guy is always circling to his right....like George Foreman, you can use your hook to put him in line for your right cross, and also he could just walk right into one of your hooks if you're able to sucker him in.

Re: I'm fighting 29th November
When those two guys were fighting, they were doing two things. First, fighter A's front foot was in line with Fighter B's right foot, and vice versa. In other words, they were square in front of one another. Second, they fight in straight lines. Moving straight in and straight back. The guy that lost hasn't a good a grasp of distance and range as does the other guy. So he'd step back to far and then his punches would fall short.
When you fight this guy be aware of where your left foot is in relation to his. I would suggest keeping your left foot just inside his, so your are shaded well to your right. When he moves in, comes forward, pivot to your right- even if you slide back turn to your right- and throw your right hand and come back with a left hook. He has a quirk of keeping his head cocked towards his right shoulder and his left shoulder down. When you pivot to your right he will turn to look at you- this will create a lane for your right hand, just over his left shoulder.

When you are in the ring make sure you go for the topless guy wearing shorts and not the guy in the shirt and bow tie. Good luck Tam.

I just watched that again. Tam, my friend, there is no reason to let this guy even hit you. Watch him; he winds up every punch he throws. Even his jab, he pulls back his shoulder before he throws it. Don't pull back or step straight back; stay just at the edge of punching range. When he draws the shoulder back, push off your back foot and stuff your jab on him, circle right, throw the right hand, left hook.

Cheers guys I've taken all of this on board and appreciate your responses. I was 14 stone 12 2 weeks ago and I weighed in today at 14 4, so I'm back on the weight already. I've got to be 14 at the heaviest for the one a few weeks later so everything is going really well. This is this most confident I've felt going into the ring because I know it's the hardest I've trained. Can't wait for fight night now.
