Wladimir Klitchsko hates lateral movement!
Well, he can't fight a guy effectively that has lateral movement, even moderately.
What he likes is for guys to come forward to him, or move straight back. Once Klit dominates the centre of the ring, he can do that all night.
This is why I think Pulev offers a very interesting match-up for Wlad. Because Pulev has the ability to move backwards very quickly, he gets in with his punches quickly- not that he has tremendous hand speed, but his foot work puts him in position to land shots before his opponent has a chance to get off.
Also, more importantly, Pulev can move off of the back foot laterally. Yes. Some guys can move laterally, and side to side, in a circular motion. Some can even move side to side in close. But, Pulev can move laterally while he is back pedalling. This is key. Key because he can throw punches moving back wards- albeit not effectively as some of the other guys- but he can also move side to side while on the back foot, which gets him out of the way of Wlad's attack.
For me, going into this fight if I were Pulev, would be ring size. I would want an 18ft ring or more, if possible.
Secondly, and more difficult to have on your side, is to lobby the referee to watch out for this excessive holding- and deduct points if need be for too much of it.
Talk to the judges too and if the ref doesn't call it, make sure the judges have an eye out for it and to not to give Wlad close or inactive rounds just because.
Pulev can win this if he comes in not exactly ready to fight toe to toe, but if he comes prepared to move and be missing- like Haye tried in his fight with Wlad and before his toe got the better of him.
If all of this can be done, then Pulev can win a UD or a Split and the title.

Re: Wladimir Klitchsko hates lateral movement!
I will not say that Pulev can't win....but the odds weigh heavy against him and for good reason.
Ring size, referee, judges....I wouldn't put too much faith in any of those saving Pulev or playing a helping hand one way or another. Sure Wladimir has been called for holding before, sure he's lost a point or two for it in the past, but Wlad isn't stupid, that's why he's still champion. The ref sets a baseline for how the fight is allowed to go Tony Weeks is reffing this fight, I think he's a good pro, he allows the guys to fight without stepping in all the time.
Wladimir fought and beat Chris Byrd twice. I would rater Chris Byrd as one of the best defensive fighters the heavyweight division has seen in a long time. Lots of movement, lots of stamina, trying to use angles.....but the jab is the key and once that finds a home then Wladimir's opponent is done for.

flippin ek, its like a moment of clarity for you
for once we agree on wlad klit
pulev has absolutely no chance of winning the fight because of the corrupt ref and judges
im really proud of you, well done

Tony Weeks isn't corrupt, he's a good ref who knows that HE isn't the reason fans are there.

i dont understand your post then
and im not really into all this geek talk but a troll is someone who says things on the internet to deliberately wind people up is that right? your views on wlad klit are a little radical, things like he doesnt hold that much and the sam peter fight was a master class of boxing
if anyone is a troll id say it was you

That's a shock
Kind of like suggesting Frank Bruno is the greatest of all time?
My views on Wladimir Klitschko are pragmatic. Wladimir has had only 2 points deducted from him in his last 21 fights over 10 years under the refereeing of: Eddie Cotton, Luis Pabon, Ernie Sharif, Sam Williams, Genaro Rodriguez, Robert Byrd, Tony Weeks, Joe Cortez, Wayne Kelly, Randy Neumann, Daniel Van De Wiele, and Jay Nady. So which referees are "corrupt"? Wlad only had 5 decisions in that span....which of the judges are "corrupt"?
I never said that the Sam Peter match was "a master class of boxing", Wladimir did box better and because of that he won the fight despite suffering knock downs due to blows behind the head. Wladimir was at the lowest point in his career after suffering 2 knockout losses, he took the fight against Sam Peter who was widely recognized at "the next big thing" in the heavyweight division, Wladimir conquered his demons, survived a few knockdowns, and won the fight. A fight nobody expected him to win.
You're a troll and what's worse is you're a ginger as well and you have no soul

Re: Wladimir Klitchsko hates lateral movement!
Wlad is a complete fighter not spectacular but very good and consistent. Any of the great champions would have a tough time beating him. I think the only thing that beats him is boredom and age.

Here is where Pulev is different from Bryd- Pulev can punch a little harder and not as easy to hold down.
When facing Byrd, all Klit had to do was stalk him down- round for round. Byrd couldn't dodge them all, and neither could Pulev, but I would think Pulev could take a Wlad shot, land a harder shot, and counter-punch a little more effectively than Byrd.

Byrd was easy to hold down? Chris Byrd is one of the slickest heavyweight boxers of the last 20 years. He was like Michael Dokes minus the cocaine addiction. Byrd fought anyone and everyone.
I'm sorry but Kubrat Pulev hasn't been tested against the top of the division. Sure he fought Thompson, but other than that who is there on his resume? Dimitrenko? Travis Walker? I mean I guess those are OK guys to attempt to prepare yourself for Wladimir Klitschko, because 1 is big and the other can punch, but it's not the same. Maybe Ustinov as well, but shit again he's not even close to the skill level of Wlad.
Wlad isn't JUST a big guy, Chris Byrd said it best: "When the bell rings he starts using his height and reach to his advantage. He has been dominating the division because of height and reach and skill set...and making it look very easy. And people say 'he's boring he does this, he does that', no Wladimir is just smart. Punch through the guard with his jab, a very powerful jab, setting up the right hand and he waits on it. He doesn't waste a right hand, sets it up, keep the height and reach, get through the guard with the jab then right hand and down they go."
Pulev might be dangerous to Povetkin, or Jennings, or Wilder, or Stiverne, or Fury....but I don't see that special something that will trouble Wladimir....maybe he has it and hasn't shown it yet, but I'm looking at the 2 fighters and all I can see is Wladimir Klitschko continuing to dominate and scoring a mid-late round stoppage I'll say round 8 or there abouts....it will depend on how open Kubrat is, how much he pressures Wlad, and if he can take a punch.
At this point right now Pulev reminds me a bit of Sergei Lyakhovich bar the KO loss to a questionable opponent in Maurice Harris.

It was proven by Vitali, Ibeabuchi, Wlad and especially for a good comparison, Povetkin, all you had to do is keep coming at Byrd and pin him down with hard shots. He's gonna wear down round by round. It's like catching a juvenile cat... sure, it's fast for a while. But, sooner or later, you are gonna get it.
With regard to Ibeabuchi, he kept on pushing forward until he landed the bomb. Vitali, Wlad and Povetkin just stalked him down and pounded on him when they had him. Something Tua couldn't do, because at that time he was a shorter punching, lazy fighter.
But Wlad won't be able to stalk Pulev down to wear him down like that. Pulev is just stronger than Byrd.
-
Pulev will get knocked out like the rest of the division
-
Re: Wladimir Klitchsko hates lateral movement!
Unfortunately Lyle is right. How many times have we pumped up an upcoming Wlad opponent, in the hopes that at least they'll put up a competitive fight..... only to be extremely disappointed come fight night? Talk is cheap. They can say they'll do this.... they can say they'll do that. But many have talked a lot, only to come into the ring like so many timid sheep, waiting for the hammer to fall. And I don't even like Wlad's reign as champion. But dammit.... at some point the finger has to pointed at the opponents. Povetkin is the only one (most recent) that stands out in my mind as actually coming in to fight, which of course made Wlad resort to the worst type of grappling and fouling tactics. Pulev will get TKO'ed, and we'll forget all about him and start pumping up the next victim.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitchsko hates lateral movement!
Pulev can do it. If Pulev can't do it, no one can. He has a great chance of winning a UD in this one. Wlad faked an injury for a reason.

Pulev cant do it
wlad faked the injury because the officials werent giving out the right signals, when youre down to officiate a wlad fight never mention that you will uphold the rules, soon as you do youre chance of a massive payday goes, as a ref if you follow wlads rules you will earn a massive amount - usually more than the opponent and get the chance to a again :)

Kubrat - 246.9
Everyone seems in tip top shape. Pulev says he's going to pressure Wlad early and make him move a lot.
When Wlad weighs 245+ he typically wins by KO....but hell he always "typically wins by KO"

Which is what Pulev won't allow him to do. Pulev will have one round of that before he begins to move in and out and to the side.
This is why a Haye rematch with Wlad is/was appealing- but Haye is such a bullshitter.

mate, wlad is brilliant at grabbing hold of people and leaning on them
thats why hes still champ, the best boxers in teh world cant avoid it
its no surprise the best 2 fighters hes fought in his reign have seemed to be defensive, because if you come forward and try and and engage you will get held and lent on and it will be energy sapping and by round 8 youll be knackered
the one thing pulev has is he is tall, wlad isnt as effective at holding on and leaning against taller fighters
it just so happens that the taller fighters havent been amazing that he has fought
this could give pulev a chance being a decent tall fighter
this fight is going to be very boring, a lot of holding, it will resemble the provetkin fight

and dont forget if wlad gets into any kind of trouble the officials will do everything they can to let him off the hook
the only win pulev can hope for is he comes out of it looking tough and as though he has given it a real go like provetkin did
if he does the things that he will need to do to win and he doesnt win he will look too defensive and unwilling to engage in the fightm, and his reputation will be tarnished

Re: Wladimir Klitchsko hates lateral movement!
I predict(although I could be wrong as usual:S) that there won't be much holding and grabbing in this fight at all.. Wladimir doesnt like people getting close to him like povetkin and peter, the smaller guys really.. Pulev is a tall boxer with not a lot of power I don't think he is going to rush into wlad the same way povetkin did(which I think made wladimir very uncomfortable and made him up his grab and lean game).. So I think it will be a cagey affair of unentertaining jabs and occaisional straights for 12 rounds where wladimir wins by like 118-110 or something.. unless pulev gets bored and goes mad and decides to rush him :S I think both of them will stay on the outside which will make wladimir happy and he will just poke pulev in the face and not go to grab him much at all..

There won't be much holding? Have you seen wlad kilt fight before? His best weapon is the hold

Re: Wladimir Klitchsko hates lateral movement!
Wlad holds so he can win each round with three punches.

Yes, he likes to stay away from people so against another tall fighter who likes to jab I think they will both stand back no reason for wladimir to grab and hold him.

His best weapon is the hold
He did a lot of damage and scored lots of knockdowns with the hold then ?

And I don't even like Wlad's reign as champion. But dammit.... at some point the finger has to pointed at the opponents. Povetkin is the only one (most recent) that stands out in my mind as actually coming in to fight, which of course made Wlad resort to the worst type of grappling and fouling tactics. Pulev will get TKO'ed, and we'll forget all about him and start pumping up the next victim.
I hate to say "I told you so"........ oh, hell...... who am I trying to kid. Of course I told you so!! Yet another loudmouth promising big things before the fight, only to provide a meek and underwhelming show in the ring. Lateral movement my ass! The dude waded in with a sign that said "Hit me here". Later, after the fight, Pulev had this to say:
"Wladimir is a really good opponent, but he was lucky. I want a rematch. I'll win the next time," Pulev said. "There's luck in boxing. He's a good boxer but he's unsporting. There were a lot of tricks."
Tricks?? Oh.... like Wlad using the left hook when Pulev was expecting the right cross? Yeah.... I can see where that's downright sneaky.

Wlad is a level above everyone. To be honest Wlad wasn't his sharpest in this fight...he didn't respect Pulev at all.
