Joseph Diaz jr. 12-0 fights Roberto Casteneda 21-7-1 in main event
Taishan has hired Buddy McGirt as a trainer.
Washington gets knocked down via right hand to back-top of head and takes full count on hands and knees at 2:35 1st
Diego De La Hoya 7-0 (5) vs Ali Gonzalez 6-3 (1) featherweights up next. Never noticed the scar tissue over Diego.
Oscar and Fernando Vargas sitting side by side..all calm and smiling :-X
De La Hoya pretty sneaky slick on that spin for KD. He saw him tripping and landed clean
Diego is just so fast, he hits Gonzalez coming and going. Impressive!
Kid can fight a little. Nice to see him put combinations together. Flashy but thinking of the next combo
That was nice, killer instinct off set up right upper. Early, but looks to have gears
Julian Rameriez 12-0 (7) fights Pedro Melo 11-5 -2 (2) next, again Featherweights.
on a side if I ever take up Lucha Libre, I want to be known as 'Pedro Mellow'.
Ramirez leans in like a nose tackle with that head. Heavy front feet.
Well, Melo corners stops it between rounds 4-5.
Jesus Ivan Delgado 2-0-1 vs Rick Quevedo 1-1 in a stand by 4 rounder. Lts
Ya have to start somewhere eh
That's interesting...GBP promoting two different cards on Showtime and HBO...same night, same time :cwm13:
Joseph Diaz jr. 12-0 in main event vs Roberto Castaneda.
Wondering if Diaz body and growth is ahead of his ability so far? Dude looks sluggish and bulky, winning but showing a taxing style here.
:vd: I honestly think that is one of the shadiest stoppages seen in a awhile, they have diagnosed a "broken hand" and threatened a stoppage between rounds with the fighter apparently not knowing he had or suspected one ??? I think that's horseshit. Diaz via tko
Yeah, it was definitely a questionable stoppage, but I agreed with stopping the fight. Castaneda has now lost 8 of last 9 fights, it was getting hard to watch…mercy stoppage, in my opinion.
A definite mismatch! Its pathetic, the match maker puts together a mismatch but it's up to the doctor, referee, or commission official to save the lamb. Castaneda shouldn't be anything but a sparring partner in my opinion, a sparring partner with extra padding in his head gear. Whoever put that fight together deserves a swift kick in the ass, mainly because he was wasting our time with an absolutely meaningless fight.
The rest of the card was good, not great but entertaining and Diego De La Hoya will be fighting in main events before long. I hope they don't push him too fast.
When they announced GBP regular cards I had some hope that we'd get a little of both promising prospects and semi competitive matches, but these cards are more often than not just used as a sausage making factory. You like some of the product but watching it be made makes your stomach turn. Then again, Showtime has run the same thing in a couple of recent cards. Man, if you told me that a card promoted by Mike Tyson would outshine Gbp and Showtime and produce great match ups like last night in comparison I would have laughed. Hopefully we'll see some improvement. I think the next card is headlined by 45 yr old Tarver vs Jonathan banks :-X. A lot of "names" on undercard but also a bunch of TBA as opponents.
