It was a match between NZ and Australia in the 70s I think. Basically it came down to the last ball, and NZ needed to hit a 6 to win. A 6 is scored when the batsman hits the ball over the rope (off the pitch) without it bouncing (think of it like a home run). In order that a 6 would be impossible to hit the Australians rolled the last ball so the batsman had no chance of hitting a 6.
The rules were then changed unsurprisingly!
