Austin trout back tonight, Tarver - Banks, big card in California
Trout is back in action tonight against Luis Grajeda. Also on the card Antonio Tarver is in a decent heavyweight contest against Jonathan Banks. Tarver thinks he will be the oldest ever heavyweight champion. Tyson cave takes on Oscar Escandon for the interim WBA super bantamweight title, god knows how many WBA champs there are at that weight. There's loads of other fights too on the card.
Austin Trout 156 vs. Luis Grajeda 155.6
Tyson Cave 121.8 vs. Oscar Escandon 121.6
(WBA interim super bantamweight title)
Antonio Tarver 225.6 vs. Johnathon Banks 211.8
Marcus Browne 177 vs. George Blades 196.6*
Edwin Rodriguez 177 vs. Derrick Findley 173.4
Sergio Mora 161.8 vs. Dashon Johnson 164.2
Dominic Breazeale 261 vs. Epifanio Mendoza 221
Gerald Washington 250 vs. Mike Sheppard 235
Terrell Gausha 153.8 vs. Cesar Vila 154.8
Rico Ramos 130.4 vs. Juan Ruiz 126.4
Ahmed Elbiale 176.4 vs. Lawrence Blakey 175.8
Vatche Martirosyan 142.2 vs. Eddie Diaz 142.6
Malcolm McAllister 164 vs. Fernando Najera 165.4
Those were the weights.

I've been to see fights there before. Good place, no bad seats, at that time, at least.

I do not know what to makes of Banks but I do not like Tarver. @Max Power thinks heavyweights are the best they have ever been!

I guess your referring to the fact an aged former cruiser Tarver and part time boxer/trainer Banks are a hot topic today is some kind of proof of superiority.
But a win over 50 year old veteran Archie Moore who regularly boxed several classes below HW is testament to a more superior era? I think not!

Re: Austin trout back tonight, Tarver - Banks, big card in California
Seems like Trout is fighting a gimme here, didn't think he looked very good in his last fight, was in a bad way for a bit when getting dropped. Like his style but not sure he can quite hack it at top level.
Tarver-Banks has awful cagey stinkfest written all over it imo, still probably be watching though :D

Terrell Gausha showing some defensive lapses, pose-punch-pose.

Gusha a is going to KO Vila as soon as Vila runs out of gas.
1-0 Vila

It's good to hear Teddy's voice. Doesn't take long to get tired of his voice though.

Been waiting but that was a nice little combo finish!

Tyson Cave ??? Seems he wishes he was Hamed a bit.
Teddy just called him out on receding hair line :-X

Cave is a fighter I'd love to see stretched out. He's a little too cute for me.

Teddy also said he reminded him of Hamed.

Not big on Cave. Fights like a guy who is reading a upside down Chinese menu and insists its Shakespeare.
-
Right now I don't care who wins, just let it be over.

Re: Austin trout back tonight, Tarver - Banks, big card in California
Woahhhhh the scores :cwm28: !! 117-111 Escandon ???
Teddy just lost his frontal lobe absorbing that

Re: Austin trout back tonight, Tarver - Banks, big card in California
Hate his style for sure..but that was shit. Just terrible numbers and decision.

Re: Austin trout back tonight, Tarver - Banks, big card in California
Even though I don't like Cave's style he deserves the win. Teddys passionate outburst hit it right on I believe.
As soon as I heard split decision I knew they were gonna give it to Escandon.

Teddy is blowing a gasket!

He was screwed for sure and it proves his style is unpopular, but that shouldn't have a bearing on the judging.

Trout's a decent guy and skilled enough but he has maxed out. Interesting to see the rebound
They need to go back to naming and showing judges, put a face on them. Standing ring center for announce while we're at it :wisesmilie:.

Definitely.
& Spicoli, that's not a bad idea :)

Interesting Teddy point. Wlad might dump him if he looks bad, why even go there ??? At least he's not reduced to carrying a Seth mitchell

Truthfully I don't think it will change a thing. Wlad wants someone to keep things organized during training and who knows how to get the most out of him and someone he trusts in his corner.
Every great trainer has not been a great fighter.

Right on, just have no idea how-why Atlas is going so deep with it. Banks honestly had Mitchell there to be tko'd..but he looked like a guy trying to save a shot for someone else.
Atlas wants Tarver v Wilder

Can't agree more, it seems like fighters who want to hit and not be hit are unpopular with US judges.
I don't think it was the crime against humanity Teddy believes it to, but it was a terrible decision and the judges should be made to explain how they came to that conclusion, round by round.

Re: Austin trout back tonight, Tarver - Banks, big card in California
Tarver fought as if in a coma for several rounds and then from somewhere in the memory bank discovered something known as a combination and it was an effective one and Banks was all but done. Good win for Tarver, I would like to see him get a shot at Klit more than many for the curiosity value.
-
The Cave vs Escandon fight reminds me of the Bey vs Vasquez fight.
Vasquez and Cave both have styles that are hard to watch with a lot of movement and deep aversions to being in any type of face to face throw down.
It's like judges are attempting to eliminate fighters they think are not fan friendly. Evolving the sport with judging sounds outrageous, right?Maybe the judges were simply bored out of their minds and were fighting back the the only way they could, after all what would you think if you saw the judges booing?! Lol
Seriously, the Vasquez vs Bey decision was controversial but I didn't have a problem with it.
The Cave vs Escandon decision was terrible. Cave was doing whatever he wanted, for most of the fight, and Escandon didn't have an answer for anything.

I was thinking Banks was in trouble when Tarver landed that left hand in the 1st round, it was fast, accurate, and planned. I was still thinking Banks might have a chance, but Tarver convinced him he was in over his head with constant pot shots and then took him out.
The fact is that Tarver will always be a problem if he is allowed to dictate the pace of the fight.
I don't think Tarver will get that far (fight for a real belt), he will eventually run into someone who will take him out of his comfort zone.
Arreola vs Tarver would be interesting.
I don't think Teddy has a chance of seeing Wilder vs Tarver.
What do you think?

It was like Escandon was old and couldn't make his body react. Worst decision I seen to date. Even if I tried to give Escandon rounds, the only positives a one or two connects per round and for being the aggressor, I stll cant give it to him.

Gusha is decent and nice finish at the end.
Tyson Cave was robbed. That was a robbery.
Watching Trout now.
