Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Knew this was coming after Khans display on Saturday and Floyd claims there were only 4000 tickets sold for the MGM - anyone know if that's true?
If it is then i can kind of understand his reasoning, that and the fact Khan is a nightmare opponent for him ;D

Anyone who believe that should either be locked up or be forced to wear a helmet for their own safety.

Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Khan wants Floyd, Manny and Brook in that order.
Floyd wants to stop Cotto/Canelo, Manny in that order.
Manny wants what ever Arum wants.
Brooks wants Khan, JMM in that order.

Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Khan blew his chance. If he hadn't got dummied by Peterson, Garcia and (arguably) Julio, he'd have a big argument to fight Floyd.
He's had two fights a WW and people are proclaiming him the next messiah. It's the same thing that happened when he moved up to 140. "OH HE WAS DRAINING HIMSELF, NOW HERE'S THE REAL KHAN". Let's see him fight and beat a guy like Porter or Thurman before he talks Floyd. Because I'm telling you right now both those guys knock him out.
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
i dont buy all this if khan had beaten him or him or what ever hed have deserved to fight floyd
who had guerro or ortiz or canelo (for that matter) beaten to deserve a fight?
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Porter would knock the fuck out of Kell Brook too.. oh wait (Khan needs to prove himself against the likes of Porter because he "struggled" with Diaz who drew with Porter. Fuck me...)
It was obvious from the other night that Khan is a serious threat to Floyd. If you can't KO Khan you're gonna have to go some to outpoint him.

Maybe Floyd should beat a guy like Thurman if hes that good?

Its just bullshit Floyd fans say to excuse him ducking fighters.

Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
I like Khan, he backs his talk up in the ring.
I for one don't feel a loss or two makes a fighter not-viable for a top spot. Some he can beat, some he can't. We know this because he doesnt really haggle or look for catchweight fights.
Khan fights whoever because he has to, Floyd fights only who he wants...because he can.
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Everybody knows my opinion of Khan's chances against Floyd , Pac and many others, but I do think he's going about this the wrong way. This is what he should do;
Firstly, the likelihood is Floyd doesn't fight him because Floyd doesn't want to for whatever reason. Bearing that in mind, instead of begging for the fight, he should play it by saying "Floyd's a chicken if he don't fight me, and he'll retire wondering! I could fight Brook and make 2 or 3 times more anyway,so why should I worry about fighting that pussy!" A lot of people will then jump on the bandwagon . What's he got to lose?
Note, that's what he should say, not what I believe. It won't help him if he actually manages to get in the ring with Floyd though! ;D
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Floyd is losin it.
Translation will be the same as always. The eternal charade will carry on and yada yada yada and then Khan wont be viable for some reason and Floyd will fight Jo Jo Dan.
-
Roy jones "yall musta forgot" song is clearly always overlooked here.
Khan beats and outboxes a classy alexander and now all of a sudden floyd is ducking khan.
Khan wont get the fight in may so needs to keep eliminating the competition and start with brook.
Khan is a great boxer and after he beats brook the fight has to happen.
Floyd and pac is a minor possibility for may 2nd so lets see what happens there first.
So quick to say floyd ducks when the two supposedly avoided fastest fighter have 8 losses between them.
Khan is worthy but floyd is in charge - remember that.
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Please, it should be obvious by now to even his most staunch fan that him "being in control" is part of the problem and not the solution. Boxing matches controlled buy PPV numbers instead of quality matchups. The only place you can find those now are on the domestic side of the sport.
-
If you were in floyds position you would try to make the fight that makes the most money and most sense first.
Arum has been ducking floyd for all these years even though manny actually wants the fight.
Floyd will be fighting twice next year and Theres no way that he can avoid or choose not to fight pac or khan unless he moves up a weight and the latter wont be happening.
Floyd is the A side fighter just like Oscar and whether you like it or not you abide by his rules.

IamInuit,
Floyd being in control is what every boxer dreams of and has set the standard for making/taking all the money inhouse.
Like I said before, with pac and khan on winning streaks they are both the heavy favourites for the may and september slots.
There is no way this can be avoided as there were many who said the same thing about ducking an undefeated powerful young mexican in canelo.
Remember that floyd is fast as well with better defense, chin and accuracy and is well aware on what both fighters bring to the table financially and al haymon will make him fully aware of that.!

They might do, but that's because weak chinned skillfull fighters are susceptible to hard hitting physical fighters. The argument here isn't whether or not Khan is better than Floyd - because he isn't. It's about whether or not Khan can challenge Floyd sufficiently enough for it to be an entertaining fight, and whether or not Khan is a big enough name for the fight to be a massive event. Style wise, i'd say 90% of the boxing community can probably accept that Khan has certain tools which will pose Mayweather some problems, and while people probably accept that we are unlikely to see Floyd lose, i think there is genuine intrigue in finding out how Mayweather deals with Khan's speed and volume.
Khan beating a Porter or Thurman doesn't mean he is better equipped to deal with Floyd. Nor would losing to either of them. Style wise, it's just an interesting fight, and for me, other than Pacquiao, Khan is probably the most likely to make a Mayweather fight interesting.
You can't really say he doesn't deserve it either considering Mayweather has spent the last 12 months being chased round the ring by Maidana - a Khan victim. He only got the shot because he was coming off a brilliant win against Broner. Khan is now coming off a brilliant win against Alexander, so he's just as deserving as Maidana was. Especially considering that we already knew how well Mayweather dealt with pressure fighters beforehand. There wasn't much intrigue at all, whereas with Khan there's at least potential for excitement.
Having said all that, Pacquiao's name rightly holds more weight, but i've long given up hope of that happening.

Do you honestly believe that? If that was the case we would have had a rematch between him and Manny by now. Say like Leonard/Duran.
Arum has been ducking floyd for all these years even though manny actually wants the fight.
This seemingly never ending notion needs to go the way of the dodo bird. Both of these clowns are responsible. Its a 50/50 split in that regard.

Floyd fighting twice next year does not make either of those fights a guarantee.

Thats a crock. He's the biggest ppv injector and he's not bigger then the sport. Floyds on cruise mode now and the way he looked against Maidana I cant blame him. Two years ago Floyd would have beat him with missing an arm.
The Manny fight is anticlimactic now. Whichever man wins the other will have been half a man in hindsight.

Thats why styles makes fights.
Khan might not get the floyd fight in may and then get destroyed by brook and possibly destroyed by pac or whoever with a big punch.
What makes khans case interesting is that at this time of floyd mayweathers career there hasnt been anyone as fast as khan on that boxing level since possibly a prime judah.
Khan isnt southpaw but he has got a great workrate and will be exceptional on the night if he gets the floyd fight.
Floyd beats everyone else in the 147 division including pac but I am very interested to see how he will time and counter khan to a decision with the amount of punches he throws each round.
It might be an easy night for floyd but I just see khan being super sharp on the night as this fight will mean everything to him and he will stick to his boxing.

Floyd has 18 years of undefeated boxing behind him, including 16 years as a world champion and fighting on a championship level. Since 1999, he has consistently been ranked as one of boxing's P4P best fighters, and has been the #1 p4p for about 10 years now.
Khan is 28, he's been knocked out twice (once in under a minute) and beaten by Peterson.
Floyd's not the guy with something to prove.
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Floyd just retire already, you haven't been meaningful for a long time now. A year with Maidana says it all.
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Khan takes Brook fight & gets flattened, if he is this superstar why isn't Khan wanting a Garcia rematch? Big punchers will get to him every time, Alexander was made for him, Khan is trying to jump the que in wanting Mayweather he has no strap & is avoiding Brook.
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Utter Crap.... Not saying I saw anything in the last khan fight that really made him more of a threat to floyd. I actually think his foot work regressed a tad. That being said I did nod off after alexander gave up, so maybe i missed something.
Now first problem I see is that Khan had his foot in the door before the first freakin maidana fight. His name was of the possibles. Then Maidana mauled broner and gathered some Luster. So how the hell is Khan holding no weight now if we was then when all he did was win in the meantime. Suspect. (i still thing floyd beats Khan handily because of khans mistakes, but anyway .. i digress)
i'm about to answer my own question now. Whats floyd afraid of with Khan? Khan's ego... With khans inflated ego, khans going to demand more money and fresh off a win over alexander, there will be arguments that maybe he deserves a bigger piece and floyds not willing to take the pay cut, on a smaller payday. Pacquiao demands a bigger piece than khan but with the buys being higher, floyds still guaranteed a certain amount.
This kind of goes back to Khans ego. Someone in his camp really needs to smack him upside the head whenever he opens his mouth. The way to get mayweather in the ring is to shame him there and corner him. judah did it, mosely did it, maidana did it in the rematch. When Mayweather beat maidana, Khan should have jumped up and said "At least I dropped him with a bodyshot... So take your rest and start training so i can do the same thing to you " Not... "oh let me check my calendar.... hmmm Ramadan.. The fight cant be till this time or that time..." Khan screwed himself out of an opportunity as he often does by opening his mouth and trying to dictate things when he has no stroke. Just like this thing with brook. Fight brook. Brook wants it.. and has a title. whats the problem? Oh it has to be just right .. etc etc etc.. whos the bigger star...
Khan wont fight mayweather because he keeps doing things like that and people will keep cutting in everytime khan checks his calendar or starts daydreaming of what should be.
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
khan has looked great in last two fights. seems he has learned from mistakes. i think khan could beat gayweather, despite his weak chin.

It seems like you are stretching the truth to breaking point, in order to avoid giving Khan any credit. He beat Julio, who the hell have Porter and Thurman fought? And why no mention of Petersons proven and admitted use of Steroids, something you never stop going on about or the fact that was never a win by Peterson. Straws? Grasping?
-
Re: Mayweather: Khan's name holds no weight, i'm focused on pacquiao!
Someone else made the point first. Khan brings more to the table than anyone Floyd has faced recently besides Canelo. He's the biggest fight for Floyd outside of Pacquiao. The Pacquiao fight isn't happening. Make the Khan fight.
With all that said, I still don't think Khan has done a lot at welterweight. Wins over Collazo and Alexander are nice; wins over Brook and Thurman are better. He "deserves" the fight as much as Maidana or Ortiz, but that doesn't mean he's done much at welterweight and in his biggest fight at junior welterweight, he lost. If Khan beat Brook or Thurman, there would be no issue with him as an opponent.
-
Garcia should have crept into 147 first and got the money match.
I like khan and love his style of fighting.
The question is if the pac fight cant be made on may the 2nd (because oscar and bob have canelo and cotto pending) and khan doesnt get the fight who else is viable for the shot.
Unless floyd goes up in weight no other names shout out to me that will bring big numbers and stylistic competition from 147...

I think JMM was the last to figure out how to (corner) a fighter into a fight.
When Pac refused to fight JMM right away 08-11'... Juan followed him up to LW, Pac fought one guy there:(David Diaz) while JMM cleaned the damn division out & threatened to do so in the LWW.
So Pac moved to 140 & fought Hatton only- moved up again fighting @ catchweight.
If Khan understood cleaning a division out eliminates options for Floyd ---like JMM did with PAC IMO, then I agree take on Brook , Thurman or better yet-- He should have focused solely on Pac, then secure Floyd's so-called last of two fights.
If Floyd doesn't fight Pac this May...Khan should work all day to secure that fight & Floyd IMO would be cornered to fight the winner of Khan vs Pac.
Khan couldn't ask for a sweeter script to fight Pac & PBF.

Floyd is the one with everything to prove. Hes the one who could go down as a top 10 fighter of all time. Maybe hes not interested in that. Maybe he doesnt care about his legacy. If so he can continue to take the easier fights. Maybe give Ortiz a rematch next. He had a nice comeback victory there.
Its comical. You say Khan should fight and beat Thurman to earn a Mayweather shot yet he just beat someone who has beaten better fighters then Thurman has faced. Make excuses for Floyd all you want. I believe he has fought genuine opponents in 4 of his last 10 fights, the rest are light years behind Pacman, Khan or even Thurman yet you have no problem with Floyd avoiding them and fighting these lower tier boxers.

Khan offered Garcia a career high payday of 1 million for an immediate rematch which was turned down. But you are right he clearly didnt want a rematch
