Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Stevenson: The World Needs The Kovalev Showdown! - Boxing News
He's being forced to fight Kovalev next year if Kovalev beats Pascal
Light Heavyweight: Adonis Stevenson will face optional challenger Dmitry Sukhotsky this weekend in Montreal. A motion from WBO/WBA/IBF champ Sergey Kovalev’s team to unify with Stevenson, provided he get by WBC diamond champ Jean Pascal this Spring, with a 50/50 purse split is being considered. If both champs get by their respective defenses, Stevenson will be allowed one more optional defense before facing Kovalev.
This is what was said at the WBC convention.

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
how is it that stevenson is being forced to fight kovalev? so kovalev beats bhop and then if he beat pascal, all of the sudden stevenson is forced to fight him? haha. i guess in my mind, stevenson should be chasing kovalev.

Kovalev will be WBC #1 if he beats Pascal and will be mandatory I think.

Stevenson is garbage, overrated and has ruined his momentum from last year. Kovalev is the man to beat and is cleaning the division out. If Stevenson never fights him it isn't going to hurt Kov at all, and I see Adonis likely being beat by a no name fighter who isn't intimidated and fights a solid fight plan. The only reason Stevenson is still champ is because he avoided the biggest fights this past year.

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
This is actually a nice change by the Wbc. Seems they are taking a step that Jose Jr has been talking about and in fact leading the charge on. You know something is changing when the most corrupt and selfish Org in history is making this move but it is also true that they have talked a big game for 2 years now on these needed changes namely ONE world champion. Of course there is also the incredible sanctioning fees they garner from Quebec. Anyway, right after unification the Orgs will splinter again unless they can work it out like they seem to do with Wlad.
Besides, Stevenson should be demanding the fight. No way does Haymon decide who these guys fight at this level. If Stevenson wants the winner he gets the winner.
Time to shit of get off the pot.

The winner of Kovalev-Pascal fight will have to satisfy an IBF mandatory defense against Nadjib Mohammedi in May or June, and during that period Stevenson (should he win on Friday) will get the opportunity to have a voluntary defense.
Escape clause 101.
Silver lining. The Ibf is on record saying they will hold off on forcing a mandatory for unification. In fact they looked the other way for Hop to fight Kov however Mohammedi may not step aside again.

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Kovalev is going to murder Stevenson and Adonis knows this and wants nothing to do with him.

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
good interview though and he said he has much to learn and work on so he's got the right mindset

Beterbiev looks crude and raw, but the power is there.

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Why does buddy keep making such a big deal out of how comfy Andre looks as a southpaw? He is a southpaw.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Andre Direll is just too big for this guy. Just look at the size difference. :-\
-
Dirrell is eating Edwards alive, it's starting to look like a total blowout. Edwards' corner is having a meltdown.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Getting bored now, you would have expected this to be over already. Don't think Edwards has landed a meaningful shot all night.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
The corner mans seems like a sadist, why don't you go and eat those punches fatty?
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Good performance from Dirrell, but that last round was poor. Edwards just seemed too small with no idea what to do about it. It is a bit late in the day to be recommending milk and a torture rack.

What I'd call an ugly affair. Looks like Edwards finally landed a meaningful punch. A very boring fight.

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
I literally just took an old man nap from the second round on. Feeling refreshed

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Bizier looking better so far, but think Dan will find a way. DAN...DAN...DAN....DAN....DAN... DAN....Jo-Jo DAN!
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Oh dear, Dan is digging himself a hole here. I have him slipping behind now with that KD. Now a cut on Bizier, this is getting fun.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Jojo appears to have lost a step and Bizier is busier.;D
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
I think that was close, but Dan was busier after Bizier seemed to punch himself out in the KD round. Think Dan edged it, but close fight.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Oooh, gotta feel for Bizier. It was a close fight, but I just saw Dan doing more work down the stretch. Bizier looked better early and the KD, but Dan was the man. Audience not really warming to him there. ;D

Renallo makes me miss Gus Johnson :looroll: or Jim Lampley :kissasskc4: on the mic
Love Paulie stating fact on Stevenson

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Some serious gayness with the ring entrance stuff. What's that all about? :cwm3:
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Still say he looks like a stiffer Sam Peter in some spots, rolls right into rights vs Kovalev
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Sukhots right eye has gone Gargoyle. Stevensons picture to paint..step it up
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
I'm cheering for Adonis and all but that first 10/8 was wrong but wtf with the second one? I must have missed a kd when I let the mutts in.

Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
I can't say that I was very impressed as I thought the opponent was a bit of a punching bag. Someone meaningful next, eh Superman?
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson back tonight
Didn't sound like "Kovalev is a piz'a shit" to me ???
He don't want to face that

I think the crew is right, Dan wanted it more. Too bad, Bizier thought he was giving it everything he had.
Started out as a boring fight but had all my attention at the end.

The last round saved it from being a complete stinker.
Sukhotsky didn't belong in the ring with Stevenson.
