Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Zlatan Ibrahimovic named second-greatest Swedish sportsman ever, and he's pissed.
Have you heard of Björn Borg? He was really good at tennis. He was ranked No. 1 in the world for a total of 109 weeks, has the highest winning percentage of any male player ever and won 11 majors.
In a recent poll, he was ranked the greatest Swedish sportsperson ever, ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. And Zlatan is pissed.
@Xwetie :)

Yeah when you think about Abba you first think about Anna and Frieda though.
When you think about Ikea, you think of insane plans, flat packs and having bits left over.

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Well Björn borg is amazing though, he having a clothes company and his underwear is amazing! And he was quite big in media back in the days, But Zlatan should be lucky he even got ranked number two because personally he wouldn't even put him on my top 5 list on swede athletes! such as Peter forsberg, Henrik Larsson, Gunnar gren. could go on forever !
-
Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
For such a small country we produce heaps of athletes some might not become really famous and it's hard to become someone in boxing for example because professional boxing is banned here. or was until 2007 i think, soo basically just started, hope we can come up with some good talents in the future i'm having my eyes on a few who got a chance!
And about ikea and girls, A lot of people ask what we're famous for and i often say that we famous for our reindeer taxis because we got so much snow in the winter there's no cars!
I'm always getting worried when i'm being mention in post....
-
Forsberg was excellent! Salo in goal as well....didn't that team beat the Canadians?
-
Yeah 1994 Gold medal in hockey beating Canada.
MATS SUNDIN! Amazing player!!!

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Bjorn Borg was GREAT at tennis. He won Wimbledon what, 5 years in a row? THat's crazy, and even his losing to McEnroe for the 6th was epic. I don't really follow football(I call it football because the Americans are lame for not choosing a different name and the NFL sucks anyways), so could just stay out of this I suppose, but has Zlatan won a world cup or multiple European chapmionships, anything like that? I don't doubt he's a better pure athlete than Borg was or whatever and I know team sports are much different(which is why I don't watch them), but he's being a baby to cry about this if he doesn't have the resume.
-
Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Borg(resistance is futile, i think it's the same guy :S) certainly should be ahead of ibracadabra... as mr borg actually won some international tournaments! Ibra is certainly amazing and won some nice league titles but mr borg won the best of the best multiple times... Even though I am a great Henrik larsson fan I would have to say ibra is better and has had a greater career than good old HEnrik had.
I think Zlatans comments might just be a game to enhance his "Zlatan(tm)" image though
-
Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Also I would vote the borg collective into 2nd place, the greatest swede is clearly magnus samuelson ! who is lucky this is not the greatest nordic sportsman or he himself would be beaten into 2nd place by jouko ahola !

Zlatan is a good player but not great although in this match he scored the most amazing goal I have ever seen. He is a black belt martial arts expert and you can see why.
@Stickgrappler will appreciate it.

Props Master! dayum that was cool! the goal was a lucky goal, but the presence of mind to execute the flying kick to launch ball in the general direction of the goal was awesome
and of course the flying kick was a beauty! the run-one-way-then-put-on-the-brakes-to-run-the-other-way and then the flying kick itself, the timing, not missing the ball was one to behold for the ages!
Thank you Master!

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Now i’m taking my time to show you what my country can provide, it only takes a few minutes tll you realise that Sweden is quite impressive, We all know boxing, so let me start where it began, right here with this guy. Harry Persson a man who was born 1898 and was the first Swedish who won the first organised amateur boxing in Sweden 1922, He lost a few fights internationally but he surprised the world when he fought Phil Scott from England 1923, Phil scott had the entire fight on points, but on the 11 round Persson throw a punch who knocked Phill out of his shoes and got down. That’s some motivation right there guys, never give up. even if u low on points!
Then we have Ingemar Johansson who’s one of our famous boxers in Sweden, Paoblo Roberto is well known too but he’s a dick so i wont put him no my list.
Ander eklund was quite big in Swedish boxing too, he fought and won the European championship twice around 1982 if I’m not wrong, It’s quite a shame that this is this guy who raped a 10 year old girl in Sweden which have the same name as Ander eklund and when you have a conversation with friends in a pub and talk about the boxing ander eklund a lot of people looking your way and think you talking sweet talk about the rapist.
Then we have a upcoming fighter for the future which i hope can do really good.
Erik skoglund born 1991 had 20 professional fights, 20 wins 11 knockouts, 0 losses.
I really holding my thump on this one, i recon this guy is a head of Zlatan!
Puuh that last night got me fucked til now can’t be bother writing more at this moment, but i do a bit of the ice hockey and some other athletes when i feel like it, but thought the boxing would be better for all of you to start with

Yes, zlatan ibrahimovic. ;)

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Swedish are best when playing hockey: Lindstrom, Alfredsson, Forsberg, the Sedin twins, Sundin, Zetterberg, ect.

I can't even pronounce these names.

its hard to look past Borg when discussing Swedens greatest sportsman. The guy was phenomenal and still holds recors in the sport.
Zlatan is just another namby party overrated and overpaid footballer.
I'm surprised it took so long for Ingo to be mentioned, this is a boxing forum after all.
I would definitely rate Ingemar higher than Ibrahimovic.
I don't know nearly enough about ice hockey and other Nordic sports to have a comment or view about those guys, but I bow to the better knowledge of others.

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
When asked what he bought his wife for her birthday Zlatan said "Nothing, she already has Zlatan".
When asked about being offered a trail at Arsenal when he was 17 years of age he said "Zlatan does not do auditions".
When talking about Pep Guardiola's management style "Advanced bullshit about blood sweat and tears that kind of stuff".
Next to his official wax work model "one is made of wax, the other is made of steel".

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
@Greenbeanz what fucking bloody hell pornography has to do with this thread WHICH YOU HAVE ONCE AGAIN HIJACKED bespeaks of just what agenda you have, cowboy. Time to clean your clock and wipe your nose. Since when is it unacceptable to respond to a serious thread in a serious manner? Shall I go ahead and post here your little Skype Video on the topic and see where it goes from there? One day, this forum will return to normal after you have logged out once in a while and given others a chance to express themselves without fear of character assassinations coming from your cruel mouth. Bjorn Borg? Seriously Beanz? Is that all you have?

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
'King' Henrik Lundquist will no doubt be in the mix if he leads the Rangers to the Cup.
-
Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
Henrik Larson would be up there for Celtic fans.

Re: Greatest Swedish sportsman ever
For such a small country just 9 million people i say proudly we been trying to put as much effort as possible to keep it up with the bigger countries and i do say we succeede.
Ingemar Stenmark (alpine skiing)
Regarded as the greatest slalom and giant slalom specialist of all time, Stenmark won 86 individual World Cup races between 1975 and 1989, far more than any other alpine skier in history. His dominance ushered in a change in rules for alpine skiing. Stenmark won a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympics and two gold medals in 1980. He was prevented from racing at the 1984 Olympics due to his status as a professional skier. Stenmark is also known as a man of few words, which make most interviews with him…short and special.
Magdalena Forsberg (biathlon)
‘Magda’ boasts the record for most World Cup victories (42 races won) in women’s biathlon and in the process compiled six consecutive overall wins (1997-2002). Add to that six world championship golds! The Olympic gold eluded her, but she managed two bronze medals at Salt Lake City in 2002, the year she retired at the age of 35. Immensely popular in Sweden, she has on four occasions been awarded Jerringpriset, Swedish Radio’s prize for sports performance of the year, which is voted by the public. That’s more than any other athlete in Sweden.
Ingemar Johansson (boxing)
‘The Hammer of Thor’, a nickname for Johansson’s right fist, made him not only heavyweight champion of the world in 1959 but also earned him the Associated Press Athlete of the Year. When he retired in 1963, ‘Ingo’ had a record of 26 wins, 17 by KO, and only 2 losses.
Stig H. Johansson (trotting)
68-year-old Johansson is widely considered the greatest Swedish trotting trainer and driver of all time. He won 6,221 races during his 42-year career. His wins include Elitloppet (six times), Gran Premio della Lotteria (four times), Nat Ray Trot (once) and Prix d’Amérique (once). He retired in 2005.
Ronnie Peterson (Formula 1)
Throughout most of the 1970s Peterson had the reputation of being the fastest driver in F1 in terms of raw speed but found himself too often next to the winner on the podium. He won ten races and was a two-time runner-up in the FIA Formula One World Drivers’ Championship before a fatal crash at Monza in 1978.
Börje Salming (ice hockey)
Sweden’s first true NHL hockey star, Salming was one of the first European players to make an impact in the NHL. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996. After 26 seasons in North America and Sweden, he is admired for his persistence to play despite pains and woes of injuries and stitches.
Jan-Ove Waldner (table tennis)
Popularly regarded as the best table tennis player to ever live, Waldner became a top level player at the age of 16. As one of four male players in the history of table tennis he has achieved a career grand slam (Olympic, World Champion and World Cup winner in singles), the other three being Chinese. With one gold and one silver medal, he holds the Olympic medal record for table tennis (table tennis was introduced in 1988).
