Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Ever the optimist, I'm looking forward to this fight on Jan 17th. Lots of bad things can happen, like Wilder crashing and burning after the first clean shot by a legit HW fighter. Another scenario would be Stiverne mysteriously crumbling from the first glancing blow from Deontay (ala Malik Scott). But what a boom for the HW division it would be to have these two engage in a terrific, competitive fight, preferably lasting at least into the middle rounds! It's not gonna be a chess match. These two guys have serious power, and hopefully will provide us with the kind of show we haven't seen in..... well..... let's just say in quite some time.
I hope they're both up to the task. Furthermore, even if it ends in a highlight reel KO, I hope the loser rebounds from the loss (I guess I'm thinking more about Wilder when I say this). ..... and if it's a great fight...... REMATCH.
Oh what the hell.
While I'm at it, I hope I hit the lottery, and the prize money is delivered by Monica Bellucci, Kate Upton, Scarlet Johansson, and Halle Berry.

Fuck yeah. If you're not excited about a 6'8'' dude with a 100% KO ratio, you're light in the loafers, you need to be watching golf or some shit.

I just hope to hell it's a good fight, bro. I'm ready for a new era in heavyweight boxing.

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Fuckin A man, I want one of these guys to emerge as someone who we can get excited for against Wlad, because in reality myself and most people haven't been excited for a HW fight since Wlad/Haye 3 or 4 years back.
If Deontay wipes out Stiverne, which I believe he will, I'm gonna be real excited to see him in there against Wlad. Wlad's great but he has that questionable chin and if Deontay puts his fist on it we could see the end of an era.

Damn straight! I was among those excited about Wlad-Haye...... until the fight actually happened. Then it was just another in a long line of disappointments. I'm tired of having excuses made for Wlad every time he goes out there and bores us half to death with a crap fight. Again... the blame goes both ways.... both to Wlad, and his crap opponents. I'm more than ready for some real heavyweight action once again!

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Not certain which flaw ends up being the "fatal flaw"...Stiverne's lack of urgency or Wilder's lack of a plan B.
The longer the fight goes the better it will be for BWare, he's got the better chin, he's got a decent ability to counter punch, and he took everything Arreola had to throw at him twice!
Wilder will get the chance early to land and make it count, he had better not take that for granted.
What we might see when these guys fight is Deontay Wilder fighting to last the distance as Stiverne shakes off his attack and builds points up on the scorecards.
Stiverne finally catches Wilder in 8, TKO for BWare and back to the drawing board (with all the king's horses and all the king's men) for Wilder

Agreed. This is a potential punch-fest from 2 power hitters.
With Wlad-Haye I don't know which was worse:
1. Haye ran like a track star named twinkle- toes, then claimed one of his toes prevented him from standing in there and handling business. Did a toe catch fire from all that canvas friction?;D
or
2. Wlad who is pretty smart, couldn't figure out how to cut the ring off from a 9-toe-fighter.

No I'm a pragmatist....these dudes won't beat Wladimir. We have yet to see how Wilder handles such a step up in competition, what happens when Stiverne doesn't fold up for him? Stiverne I think is more tried and tested and seemingly has a very solid chin.

:rotflmao:
LMAO at the mental picture of Haye's toe catching fire.
But yeah..... fair assessment of what was basically a HUGE letdown of a fight.

Say whatever you want but WE ARE on the verge of the Heavyweight division going full circle and becoming the glamour division again.... gonna take a few more years then its gonna be full of hungry young fighters coming through.
Wilder could just be the catalyst if he does a demolision job on the 17th , we've got Joshua smashing his way through the rankings as well. Kids are gonna see these guys knocking guys out and that lights the fuse and brings the dollar/glamour back into it.
I'm definitely excited about this fight.

Stiverne has shown in the past that he can be extremely, shall we say...... umm.... "un-busy". If that Stiverne decides to show up against Wlad, we're in for another very long night. Wlad will maintain his distance, and it's off on another cure for insomnia.
Deontay is the "wild card" here (excuse the pun). We can assume he'll fail the first time he gets rocked, but it remains an unseen and unknown supposition.
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
I am really excited about this as I want Wilder to win. I want him to make a couple of defences and then go for Wlad.
I really hope he does not end up like Seth Mitchell.
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
For Wlad-Haye the guy doing the talking (Haye) should have put on a better show, Wlad said 'I'm taking him 12 and I'll stop him then'....Haye was all "I'll decapitate you and your brother!" and then he fought like a little bitch. Wlad did exactly what he said he would do bar the last second KO.
Deontay Wilder has not fought good or even average opponents yet, Stiverne CAN be lazy in the ring but once he's hit he's one of those guys who throws right back. Neither of them are cultured boxers, they are brawlers...Stiverne has a shot because he has power and a good chin, Wilder just has power and size. Wlad has better technical skills in the ring, he has more experience, he's not going to get caught up in the build up to a fight....these guys are new to this whole thing it will be a rude awakening for them, I'm sorry Titofan

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
I'm sorry too, Lyle. Sorry that for the past 10 years we have had a combination of worthless bums parading up to face Wlad in the ring, and of Wlad retaining the memory of those KO losses only too vividly in his mind, to the point where some of his fights have been comical....... one guy scared shitless of the big Ukrainian champion, and the champion praying his chin isn't grazed even by accident.
Maybe Wilder-Stiverne will usher in the beginning of a new era, where up and coming young heavyweights can restore the excitement to the division, and bring in new fans.
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
I think Stiverne is a bit overrated and is going to get tooled by Deontay.

No disagreement on the first part. There are whispers though that Wilder lacks a chin, which can be confirmed by the Harold Sconiers fight and that knockout with headgear on in the amateurs. No one makes it out of the first round to find out though. Stiverne should prove savvy enough to get to the middle grounds and he packs a punch. If the fight goes past the first few rounds, it'll be interesting. With that said, Stiverne has been stopped before too.

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Definitely an interesting fight . The HW division needs people like Wilder, Joshua to bring excitement, and even Fury is good because of his outrageousness (is that even a word?) :)
I stop a bit short of saying the glory days are back, but it is a matter of fact that a top American would ignite the division. (if that's what Wilder is.)
My personal opinion is that no doubt Wilder has KO power, but he is still raw and wild at the highest level. That won't stop it being an exciting ride though.
Good luck to him.

@TitoFan LOL come off it, the guy has taken many numerous hard punches throughout his career against guys far harder hitting than any other champ had to face. Only Lewis and Vitali can boast similar.
The Wladimir weak chin is basically a myth! All of WK's really good opponents and even a few strong but lesser ones have managed to sometimes land power punches on him and he hardly ever goes down.
12 times total in 66 fights, average opponent 237lbs.
6 separate opponents
8 separate occasions, in 66 fights at ultraHW.
It's a joke!

It WILL be exciting for a moment.
But it will be quick!

For the HW's it is a fairly interesting matchup. I'm not excited by it, but it is a curious contest.

Could be, I guess we shall see. David Tua got starched in a few seconds by Savon with head gear on and he went on to have an amazing pro chin so I guess we'll have to see how Wilder takes a punch. I know Haye stung him a few times in sparring but Haye hit like a mack truck.

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
The fight's only a week away, and the excitement is building (I hope).
Both Stiverne and Wilder are talking trash..... so that's always a good sign. ;D
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Yes, I'm very interested to see this fight. I was just going on about it to a friend who has no interest in boxing. If Deontay can become a name here in the US it may do a lot for boxing in general. I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
I'm looking forward to it, going to get it on tv but does anyone know what tv channel it will be on in canada, it appears showtime is not availible here and my search on the listings has come up with nothing so far?
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Yeh I'm stoked for this in a circus kinda way. The two are exact opposites in mind and attack, something has to give. If Wilder was anymore fool of himself we'd call him the Hindenburg or Spruce Goose :-X
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
I have just watched a career highlight reel of Wilder , he has fought some crap for sure.
This fight will tell us if he can take it up to a new level , Stiverne will catch him on the chin at some point , then we will see if Wilder is a KO KING or a PAPER TIGER.
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
im excited in the sense that they are both big punchers and it will be a good fight while it lasts. neither of them though have proven that they are good fighters yet.
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
I think Stiverne is the better bet to win this but as per usual I'm going to pick the guy I want to win. So I'm going with Wilder who will hopefully give American boxing a shot in the arm with another big KO.
It doesn't matter who you put in the ring with him, if Wilder gets to land that right anywhere near flush it's going to splatter whoever is on the end of it.

I've been waiting and waiting to find out that very same thing. Fight nite is almost upon us.
I'm hoping Wilder wins big because I don't think Stiverne has a chance against Wlad.

I disagree.
We already know Wilder can't beat Wladimir. He has been battered in sparring by Wlad and Haye already.
Stiverne has a real punchers chance.
Unless Wilder has improved drastically since those camps. He looked like a flailing gazelle in the footage I have seen against both aforementioned fighters.
I am excited for this fight as well though, very unpredictable and guaranteed to end in a KO.

Fight nite will clear things up, we can agree on that at least, right? Don't answer that, I know the answer. Lol

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
I can't help but think about that leaked footage of Wilder staggering around like a baby Giraffe after Haye tagged him in sparring whilst training for the Fury fight that never came off. This and the fact that Wilder is for the first time taking a real step up in competition worry me. I actually want Wilder to win as I believe that he would be the "better" HW champion (although we all know he wouldn't really be that) because I think the perfect record and the fact that the guy is certainly marketable are something that would benefit the division and ultimately the sport.
I haven't been on here for a good while but the traditional glamour division is certainly heading in the right direction at the minute which is a lot more than I've been able to say for a long time. The fact that we have got an unbeaten fighter with a perfect KO record fighting for a version of the HW title is a great thing but I think I'd have to go with Stiverne to pull this one out of the bag and probably very early. He certianly seems to have the better chin and he has genuine power too and I really do wonder how Wilder will handle these 2 qualities!
I hope that on sunday morning I'm thinking to myself "well Wilder proved me wrong, he really can hang with decent opposition" but I just feel he is too raw and one dimensional and will probably be exposed.
I am definitely looking forward to this one though and the one thing that cannot be taken away from Wilder is his power, if he lands right on Stiverne he can certainly take him out and Stiverne did take quite a few shots from Arreola before he caught him!
-
Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Wilder's gonna be putting his championship belt on after this fight....

I agree about it being a good fight, but I do think we've seen more of Stiverne than we have of Wilder. What I'm saying is that Stiverne has proven himself in some hard fought fights and Wilder hasn't.
You can't say (I can't, anyway) Wilder is a bum simply because he KOs everyone he fights, in my opinion.
Hopefully it's a good fight for a while, instead of a blowout one way or the other.
I can feel the tension building like a 2 inch, threaded nylon rope being stretched to its breaking point. Stand back!!
Forget I said that, I wouldn't want to sound overly dramatic! Hell man, I'm as cool as a refrigerated cucumber. 😎

Re: Don't know about anyone else... but I'M excited about Wilder-Stiverne!
Wilder v Stiverne to me is a 50/50 fight, why because Wilder is fast a wild big puncher,! he hits them
they go they say his chin is poor but do we really no, as nobody has really got to him.
Stiverne looks solid nothing special, looks to have a good chin and decent punch power, in this match up
nobody is head and shoulders above each other.!!!!!!

Sparring isn't the same as fighting.
