Should prostitution be illegal?

Even since I was a kid I didn't really understand it, why doing something that's perfectly legal becomes illegal when money is involved. It's the oldest profession, it'll always be around because the need for sex comes behind only the needs for food, air and water. Why not just tax it?

People always bring up the exploitation of women, being forced into it and/or abused by mean pimps, or of course children being used. Seems to me that the fact that it's illegal allows this stuff to happen, because sex workers can't go to the police because they make their money illegally. If it was a legal business and regulated, seems to me a lot of this would be stamped out.

What do you guys think? Have you ever solicited a prostitute? I've never and probably never would, but it seems like the news comes out with these guys who get caught doing it like I'm supposed to look at them as bad guys, and I'm just like "who cares, it's a guy just trying to get off with a consenting, legally aged woman. Who cares if he paid for it."

Of course it should be legal. Trafficking of women is just the latest in centuries of excuses to maintain the current ridiculous situation. Legalising it wouldn't end trafficking of women but it would reduce it.

If it was possible to expose all the powerful people in the world who use prostitutes then prostitution would be legalised overnight and there's be a privacy law passed to protect the identities of people who use prostitutes.

It should be up to you what you do with your own body. In terms of things like prostitution then I don't understand the reason for state interference. In more general terms I suppose we are all prostitutes of some kind. 'I stack shelves, I am no lowly hooker' sneers the English Literature graduate. 'You aren't exactly emancipated either, honey pie!' grins Dora strutting down the aisle. I wouldn't want anyone to become a prostitute, but if they can handle it and feel it is justified then that is up to them. It isn't as though corporations are paying enough to do regular jobs anymore. It's another reason why there needs to be systemic change in our societies. Work needs to be rewarding and provide a comfortable living and people don't go on the game for kicks.

Given the choice I think most people would choose a regular life and a family, but we live in an age where people can't even afford the rent anymore. Something has to give and the solution is not more working class people becoming rent boys and prostitutes.

The government is not your momma. It does not tell you how to live your life. So yes it should be legal if both parties are 18 and up. You can grow weed and get high all fucking day. That is your right and the Government has no say in the matter.

Prostitution is legal under UK law, however operating a brothel, legal definition is a house with more than one whore is illegal.

My mate says that 85% of prostitutes are in favour of legalising the profession.

your idea of me being a pizza loving freak is way off the mark Master, I only have pizza when I am going to be staying up until 6am for the boxing, it is good food to just nibble at through the night.
