I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
He's not coming back... that's it. He would have been a good opponent for Wlad, but after he fights and most likely wins out against Wilder, Fury, Arreola, Jennings and Briggs, it would be a full dance card.
Wlad most likely won't stay until Joshua is ready, so safe to say Wlad will end like that and Helenius will miss out on the Sweepstakes.

He had one of those Andre Ward situations with his management but he's out of the contract now and wants to fight again. I was big on Helenius but after the gift against Chisora it was a lot harder to get excited about him.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
Then he can't and won't fight. He would add some excitement and intrigue to the division if he were to come back, but let's be honest- after all this time, he is a retired fighter.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
His Wikipedia says he's broken off the contract and will be fighting on March 21st. Whether that happens or not obviously remains to be seen, but I don't think we can consider him retired yet.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
I thought Helenius had a career threatening injury and never looked right since he came back.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
Helenius will eventually be back, sometimes fighters have injuries and what not. I don't think he'll ever be the same. Shoulder injuries are not good for power punchers.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
He'll be back... that's for sure!
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
Helenius will be back and scoring KOs.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
I thought he had a career ending injury, or a near career ending injury too @Master . But, we will see. I say this is the end for him. Some times it happens!

Reading about him the injuries were fracture to right arm against Chisora and broke right wrist against Sprott. Not career threatening injuries.

Ihy... but some times these things really don't heal. And if he has brittle arms/hands, then there is nothing really much one can do about it. Sorta like Fernando Vargas, who would have thought that his back injuries that he fought with FOR YEARS would have been the reason for some of his lacklustre performances and he HAD to quit?
Some times that's the way it is... sad, but true.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
I thought he fucked up his shoulder....guys who do that typically can't generate the same punching power again.
Re: I think it's safe to say Helenius has retired!
Bit of a lumbering oaf like most in the division but the first hev I have seen fight off the back foot since Holmes.

That's what I was thinking. You have to first heal, and then you have to train before the actual fight. I understand why it may have took so long before he decided to announce a comeback fight date, but that in itself may not just cut it unless the guy he is fighting is a stiff and easily beatable. Even then it may not work out.
Shoulder injuries are a little different than hand injuries. Your hand can heal, but shoulder injuries come with cartilage damage and tendon damage and possible bone fracturing and muscle strains. Quite a different issue than just a broken hand or finger.
You may have surgery done, but what use would it be if you can't use it like brand new?? And with all of the strain put on it from training, throwing punches, and generally living, then what is expected for you to do except to go into a fight as a soft punching HW- and then who would be afraid of you??

That is what I thought but it did not state the shoulder injury.
I know it probably would not have made much difference but Audley had a serious shoulder injury and you could see the scar quite early on in his career which must have had an impact on him.

Shame. He just needs to sort this out and get in the ring.
