Post your Unpopular Opinions
Before you resort to responses like: "You must be out of your fuccin mind", keep in mind the point of this thread
- Roy Jones would have beaten Lennox Lewis had he remained a Heavyweight
- Ali would have been better off enlisting into the armed forces in the first place, regardless of his beliefs.
- Tyson was on his way to beating Holyfield in the rematch had he not completely gone ape shit.
-
I take particular pride in having nothing but popular opinions.
-
Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Ward and mayweather are always entertaining to watch.
Manny Pac didn't really improve from his lighter weights. He just had a more favorable style to beat bigger fighters than he did to beat little ones.
-
Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Nobody would have ever beat Rocky Marrciano up to 210 pounds, which would be a 23 pound weight advantage for his opponents which I think is the maximum Rocky should be facing off against as he only weighed in at 187.
Saying Lennox Lewis or Klit would beat him is irrelevant. Its like saying Derek Chisora would beat Leon Spinks, no kidding.

Poor analogy. last week I had the luxury of actually tasting a bit of it if you remember, and honestly it smells much more like vanilla extract with a little dash of cinnamon

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
wlad klit would have been relatively insignificant if he was made to fight within the rules
dunno if this is popular or not, but i think his reign is based purely on money and due to the amount of money he generates he is allowed to cheat hurrendously

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Vitali Klitschko COULD beat any hwy in history
Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Jack Johnson are overated
Pac beat JMM in their first two fights

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Eubank jr, Khan and Froch are overrated hype jobs.
British fans are played for Mugs, that's why British fighters earn more money despite being less quality. e.g. Froch/Groves 2 , Bellew/Cleverly.
Degale is a Lazy fucker
Tyson Fury - Top Bloke , Crap Fighter
Andre Ward is Fuckin Stupid.
Cotto is finished. Just looking for easiest money.
JMM's KO of Pac was meaningless, once in a lifetime mistake by Manny.
Garcia V Peterson Should never have been allowed at Catchweight.
That should stir it up a bit. ;D

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Had Ike Ibeabuchi stayed out of trouble he would have only gone on to be slaughtered by Lennox Lewis and/or Evander Holyfield and then would have gone on to be a fringe contender/acid test...see David Izon, Friday Ahunaya, Sam Peter, etc. The Nigerian heavyweights always start out in amazing form but their styles deteriorate rapidly from power punching pressure fighters to plodding sluggers.
After prison Mike Tyson was carried as a cash cow and there were plenty of fighters able to beat him out there.
Riddick Bowe is overrated he just had a style that meshed with Holyfield and Bowe happened to be the bigger man.

1. that's my point. People still sold the show out and it was still PPV.
2. Less quality than what? He's nowhere near as good as he or some of the media thinks , and does he merit £8 million for a glorified domestic dust up?

No.

JMM just went in with a game plan to exploit a LIFE LONG weakness of Manny's and executed it perfectly.
He'd already knocked Manny down with the same punch mere minutes earlier... 'Once in a lifetime'... lol

Unpopular and unsubstantiated are two very different things...

Cassius Clay
Secretly wanted to be a Lieutenant in the North Vietnamese Army.
He liked the dress-outfits, and the big Officer hats.

The first knockdown was an overhead right that clipped the top of Manny's head as he was going back.
The second knockdown was a straight right that Manny walked onto so much that he nearly swallowed it. and like I said before once in a lifetime mistake by Manny.
'same punch'... lol

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Right hand through the middle.
You can be a pedant over the specific type (in this case it was a short right hand, almost a hook... but unlike you I won't be a pedant over your naming of it as a straight) but the fact remains that the same vulnerability has seen Manny eat dozens of dozens of RIGHT HANDS...
Overhand, short, straight, cross... Doesn't matter the type, he's very open to the right hand down the middle and ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

The reason I quoted the specific type was because YOU said that they were the same punch. if you had said that Pac leaves himself open to being caught by a right hand, I might agree.
My point was that the first knockdown happens to a lot of people, the second was so careless by Pac (much more so than normal) that it looked terrible. However, I don't see it happening again in a hurry.
at least I can safely say that I got this thread right as my opinion is pretty unpopular.;D

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
seeing as my last few got some attention, here's one I forgot.
The relationship between Frampton and McGuigan will end in tears!
As soon as Frampton sees that his career is the secondary priority behind McGuigan making as much money as he can for himself and his family.
I guarantee it will get messy!

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Cassius Clay
Stated that he wanted to become an Astronaut.
He did ask though, was he required to have a 'valid' Drivers License to drive a Rocket Ship.
When visiting NASA, Cassius looked inside the Apollo Capsule and asked;
"Where is the steering wheel."
True Story

Yup. That's why the lead right is the most common weapon against south paws. All those right handed shots you listed come from the same spot, no matter what the path. They're hidden behind the Orthodox fighters lead shoulder as he blades his body. Its already left the gate and is on its way to you by the time you pick it up as a southpaw because your lead shoulder is lined up with his. If he loops it or hooks it, it may buy you more time because you'll pick it up a tad earlier in the body language, than if its coming across his body. Marquez trained to throw that shot over and over again. He packed on the muscle too so it would do the most damage when it landed. Silver bullet, planned, practiced and executed.

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Don King put together the best overall fights cards.
Manny's 8 divisional champ status is purely political; How else does a dude win in 8 different classes weighing between 138-147 dating back to Morales fight one?
Prime Roberto Duran stops prime Pacqiuao & JMM @ LW.
Gerald McCellan would've beatan RJJ

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Corrales-Castillo was completely ruined by the ending. Corrales should have been disqualified for spitting his mouthpiece out to buy time when he was out on his feet. The wrong guy won.

Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Hatton became under rated when he flattend out, but he never really aimed seriously past the pinnacle that was Kostya. You have to hand it to him,it was one of the longest visions that became a reality through hard work.
Him beating Vince Phillips was part of the psychology behind the taking down of Tszyu, outside of the ring.(A tactic the Champion Tszyu did with all his main opponents before,he would get into their heads somehow ever so subtlety) and would build a win around it. KT should of done the job on Vince but couldnt then wouldnt. Ricky also aimed to move on each ex opponent in a fuller way than Kostya did so he was always chiseling away at the mountain Kostya had built (Thats what got him the end result, his dream fight). Then the younger man beat the older one by playing his own ring game. That balanced out what happened to Chavez previously when facing the younger Tszyu the greatest at 140 ever.
I also recon this period (Tszyu's) was the most exiting in boxing ever. 140 was lit up, 135 was lit up 147 lit up, and Roy lit up the mid to light, while the Feather weights and the bantams were all having greater wars than any of the higher weights.

I know, I already said you were being pedantic over something as trivial as the specific type of right hand and my phrasing instead of conceding the actual point.
Pac has left himself open to, walked onto and been baited into leaving gaps for dozens of right hands throughout his career. I'd hardly call it a 'moment of carelessness', if you keep making the same mistake over and over then one day you will pay for it.
Your bad habits only get worse when you're taken into deep water and that's what JMM did.
-
Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Should I also be a fellow pedant and point out that I didn't say EXACT same punch, or shall we agree that getting hung up on exact wording is moot?
-
Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
You don't have to say EXACT for my benefit.
-
Re: Post your Unpopular Opinions
Really? I thought I had to spell things out to the letter for you to stop them going over your head, now you're telling me I don't actually have to be too precise? ??? Which is it? :-\

I think my opinion of Hatton had always been unpopular I never saw him as the P4P superstar many did, with the help of the ref he was able to wrestle a rusty and past prime Tyszu into submission, he looked flat against a lot of fighters who a true p4p fighter really shouldn't have, got Castillo at the right time (but did land a beautiful body shot to stop him), his 147 title was gifted to him and he 'boxed' a stupid fight against Manny... Lunging straight forward with his hands down and his chin up.
Don't get me wrong, solid career and he always gave his all. I just think he was overhyped and not the calibre most British fans want to believe. I just wish he'd taken his lifestyle a bit more seriously and continued work on his skills after he'd landed on the world stage instead of buying into his own hype of being this relentless raging bull.

Like I said, you don't have to use exact , Same will do for me. Same means SAME, you don't have to emphasise it with EXACT.
So let's make it clear an overhead swinging Right is the SAME punch as a Straight Right? And with one , Manny was moving backwards, while the other, he walks straight onto it.
So does that mean an uppercut and a jab are the SAME punch as well.
After all, I'm led to believe that you're the Boxer so you tell me.
