Damn, I always think of the families. It was probably seconds (I hope) of terror for the passengers and I hope a quick death. I think my heart would blow out before we hit.

I quite agree it can end at any time you are absolutely correct about that and people are normally not ready to face that ever present reality but whatever happens next is certainly not clear and no 1 has been able to establish any hard facts so therefore is completely based on conjecture and faith. Who are you to decide for 7 billion human beings on this planet which particular religion to believe in? I'm trying to imagine descending from 38,000 feet down to six thousand feet in 8 minutes. It is a Rather rapid descent but it is a sort of uniform descent and I believe it was possible to feel the plane descending minute by minute.
that is like 31,000 feet in 8 minutes is like 4000 feet every minute. 4000 feet per minute is quite a rapid drop I would say. I cannot understand how the pilots knowing full well that the plane was dropping for the first minute or for the first two minutes or for the first three or four or five minutes, . why pilots did not decide that they were in an uncontrollable descent and also in a place where the mountains were extremely high with very high peaks. Why didn't the pilots then just turn away off the flight path and try to land the plane somewhere away from the mountains in a safe flat area. This is very confusing.
New york times has reported that the pilot was locked out of the cockpit when the descent/crash happened, don't think the official investigators have confirmed this though.... 'ow queer

Read what palmerq posted earlier, which makes this look even more awful. Apparently he only way the the door could have remained locked after an override code was entered, is if the pilot who left was manually denied access from coming back in. That surely rules out the possibility of a heart attack or something like that from the guy behind the controls. The plane apparently could have glided for much longer with total engine failure, and there was ample time to change course and look for a spot to land. Instead it went down rapidly in a straight line into the worst terrain it possibly could. It seems in this case nothing except for a suicide or hijacking would make any sense.
