Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
I know, dating back from the Oscar de-LaHoya fight, Floyd has only been hit cleanly two times.
The first was the infamous Shane Mosely fight, where he was rocked in the second and took some time to recover. Even at that age Shane still had pop and if it were most other Welters or Jr. Welters and even Super Welters, they would have unravelled and gave up the spirit to fight shortly thereafter.
The second time was in the Maidana 2 fight where he lost a tooth after being popped flush in the mouth. He wobbled back to the corner, as the shot came right at the end of the round. Had there been a minute left in that round, I'm not sure what would have happened, but it would have been interesting to see.
Enter in Manny Pacqiuoa- who will CERTAINLY hit Mayweather more times than he has been hit in his last ten fights combined. Probably harder than Shane can at that age, and definitely not as hard as Maidana, but certainly more frequently with a little less pop.
This is fight will be more than a testament of Floyd's defensive skills, but it will also test Floyd over the long haul of being hit so, so many times.
If Manny can catch Bradley, he will catch Floyd.

Must've missed the Floyd-Cotto fight I reckon.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
Pac had a lot of trouble catching Bradley.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
Bad title for that video, Bradley didn't win but he did clearly give Manny a lot of problems, and think about how easily other guys have been able to catch him. He's not a great defensive fighter or counter puncher, fighting him and fighting Floyd are worlds apart.
-
Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
Yeah I don't think Bradley won the fight, but the fight was a lot more competitive than people think because the announcers were giving credit to Pac for landing shots that were caught or flew over Bradley's head.
-
Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
Different make up and fighter from Tim but Algieri appeared to have come with movement and preservation on the mind. Seems Manny landed a few times there. In fairness Manny clearly beat Bradley not once, but twice. I don't think he can match Floyds hand speed regardless of what Cotto says, but I think Pacs accuracy will cause him more than a few problems.
-
Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
Floyd has been hit loads of times, Cotto bloodied his nose but Floyd has probably been hurt twice in 10 fights and I am not included maidana biting his pinky through the glove.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
That video should have been titled - Proof commentators sometimes call punches that miss.
Some nerd makes a totally biased video that shows a dozen examples of the HBO comms calling shots that didn't land exactly as they described.
Overall Pac threw 751 punches. Pathetic.

I remember Mosley hitting Floyd so hard his legs buckled

I don't agree with the guy's conclusion (that Bradley won the fight), but he does have a point in that announcers can often influence and skew the opinions of those watching a fight . That's something Lampley is known to do - he's done it a lot with De La Hoya and he's done it a lot with Pac.
Just wanted to show that Pac did indeed have a lot of trouble hitting Bradley flush.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
If you remember the Cotto/Mayweather fight, the shots Cotto landed were not effectively clean punches. They were grazing punches as either Floyd got out of the way, slipped a few of them or just did not land flush enough.
If Cotto had caught Floyd cleanly with at least two of those punches within the same round, we would have been having a separate discussion.
There is a difference between hitting someone and then decking them clean as a whistle.

Flush, clean shots..... no. Floyd got tagged a lot (a lot more than he was used to). But he was either moving away, or in the process of slipping most of those. You're right. However, he did get tagged enough to get marked up, which Floyd hardly ever looks like he's been in a fight. This is a testament to Floyd's remarkable ability to use his body and moves to lessen the impact of punches. Cotto was aggressive and pressing Floyd into the ropes... but Floyd used his shoulder rolls and other moves to lessen a lot of those blows. Still..... I think it's inaccurate to categorize these as grazing punches.
If what you mean are clean, flush shots taken with full force... the one that stands out most in my mind was the shot from Mosley in the 2nd round of their fight.
-
Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
The two flushest shots ever landed on Mayweather were the two Mosley landed on him in round 2. I don't know what happened with the first one, because he barely moved and got hit right on the chin without rolling or moving away.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
Didn't Floyd take a shot in like his 2,3 (?) fight that knocked him stupid???

What happened after that one round.?
Boxing at his best.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
Yeah it's sad because I'm a big fan of Lederman, who usually is very insightful and produces great score cards. But Lampley is a notorious nut hugger, he did that same shit with De La Hoya all the time, especially in the Whitaker fight. At one point DLH threw a 5 or 6 punch combination, missed every fucking punch, DLH even laughed out of embarrassment, and Lampley is screaming like DLH just knocked Pernell out.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
It's funny that there are still people who think Floyd doesn't have a chin, or doesn't have heart. Shane hit him about as flush and as hard as you can hit a man, rocked him and had him doing the fish dance for a few seconds, and Floyd didn't bat an eye and took control.

DLH was the biggest nut-hugee (nut-hugging recipient) of all time.
HBO deepthroated him constantly.

Lampley literally got choked up and teary eyed when DLH stopped Vargas. Shameless cock gobbling ugh.

Oh, I know he does have a lot of both. Which will make this Pac fight very interesting.

To this day Jim keeps a very special pair of gold-plated, monogrammed kneepads with the initials DLH on them.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
That video - although ironically showing a fight where Manny was "robbed" - also highlights the reason why Manny has a great chance of winning if it goes the distance. His activity, output and bursts look impressive even if they aren't actually landing.
He only needs two judges to favour him.
Oscar, Maidana and ridiculously Canelo got a draw/win against Floyd. Judah and Castillo won 4/5 rounds by certain judges. Manny might only have to win four rounds to get the decision. You can bet your life the fans will be screaming "robbery" either way unless either gets slaughtered

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
There's no way Pac makes it to the final bell though.

Re: Floyd Mayweather has been hit twice in his last ten fights!
The same crew was doing the same thing for Floyd's matches when he was one HBO and a different crew does it now on showtime. Same is done for ward , canelo, Kovalevs, etc. It's part of the broadcast and having 3 people go "that didn't land, that either, wow this guy couldn't hit the side of barn... " isn't going to make people watch. For guys like ward and hopkins, the commentators have to work extra hard because so much of what they do is crafty but missed or muted.
For even the best boxers, lets remember that boxing is a game of inches. Inches, eventually become centimeters, centimeters eventually become millimeters. Slipping punches, eventually becomes getting grazed by punches, then half caught by punches.. Then one day .... you wake up asking what happened. That's what makes boxing so exciting. Even the defensive specialists can get caught by someone regarded as a hack by some.

A commentator's job is to be unbiased and break down what is going on. When you have a guy going ape shit over one fighter's punches that aren't landing, and totally ignoring the offence of the other fighter, you're doing a grave disservice to that boxer and the fans. It's not part of broadcasting to bullshit people and give an inaccurate account of what's going on. That's the complete opposite of what they should be doing.

I agree with you. Just because its wrong doesn't mean it won't happen. The networks pays the bills and will always push for their house fighters. Someone like lederman dishes the same comments broadcast after broadcast so people just tune him out. "yanno jim,i gotta tell ya, its just amazing the way (name) is able to keep landing those punches, cutting off the ring and using effective aggressiveness...5 rounds to 1; 59 -55, (name) "
The fans want competitive fights and a guy like Gatti got away with that. Being vulnerable, taking a pounding and then forcing the rocky style knockout comeback. The fighters now aren't interested in that. They want to dominate, dissect, and keep the undefeated record by minimizing risk. More store power means more revenue through sponsorships, interviews, guest appearances etc. So the broadcasters have to inflate deflate, so that the fighter gets what they want and the network gets what it wants by making the fans believe they are getting what they want. Its kind of a double edged sword though when you think about it because it sheds spotlight on fighters like a marquez or a martinez that just kept getting shafted off screen on undercards before they got said star status and networks behind them.

Lederman's a lot older (75) than his TV voice. I was shocked the first time I actually saw him.
Most of the time we just hear him.
