not a big fan of either butt deff watch it
Algieri had milked his 15 minutes of fame to death. This is a dud. This really does nothing for Khan who seems like a guy hesitant to jump in the pool.
Dissapointing is in this case an understatement. Well done to @Fenster for calling it first though.
I will never defend khan again.
Yet again, another light hitter.
Khan should have fought a brook or Thurman.
Its just not good enough
Agreed and I'm A Khan fan.
Why go this route?
Broner was on a plate for him and better still was Brook
This is an easy win and I really don't see the benefit at all
This really pisses me off! (Excuse language)
Why why why take a fighter coming of a pathetic loss.
How on earth does beating algeri propel him into a better position of getting floyd or pac next?!
After a great win over Alexander he should have steamrolled Thurman and be the best place possible!
How on earth can anyone justify this fight!
Rant over!
Khan seems a bit like Haye. Athletic, overrated and pretending
Khan was on the right track to prove he wasn't overated and had great momentum from Everyone after the Alexander fight but now he went and spoilt it!
Amir will have little reason to complain if he gets passed over by Floyd/Pac later this year.
So true.
Floyd has one fight next (if we believe that) and this year was the time to keep on shining and he blew it with this one.
I believe khan has the best chance to beat floyd and he could have stayed consistent with possibly a first by knocking out broner or beating Thurman.
Seriously beginning to wonder if the punches have caught up to Khan, Algieri is a "class A fighter and has decent power". Its an everything to lose fight. Total head scratcher.
I'll take Algieri.
Where's the fight taking place?
Well after maybe Brook then Broner - a marquee name and easy win imo for khan - I just don't get this one.
Safety first. This guy has punch power to rival Malignaggi.
Strange choice and as said does nothing to enhance his status with the main men.
What the fuck?
What the hell is the benefit for Khan? Algieri gets some more cash a chance at a top level fighter so it is understandable for him to take this..... but what does Khan get from this?
Such a shitty fight for someone who has soooo many options.
Losing my liking for Khan.
Like I said before, I've tried liking khan but the guy is a twat. There is no logical reason to make this fight when he has so many options with bigger names.
Al Haymon :bashtroll4cx4:
It will be a one sided fight , but still a good one. Shame really this doesn't do much to progress Khan. He needs a high risk fight again like the Maidana one , to prove he's still a top name. He best fight somebody decent to close the year.
I think I've figured out Khan's logic :o
He's copying Pacquiao, Pac's last fight was Algieri so he thinks he might land a Mayweather fight by doing the same ;D
Well this says everything you need to know about Amir Khan. And to be fair , a lot of people ( me included) thought Eddie Hearn was making it up and being mischievous when he said about this fight.
Khan has turned himself into a complete and utter joke! Earlier, In another thread, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, saying that it was GBP shielding him from the big punchers, but he doesn't have that excuse anymore.
In his last fight, it was reported his purse was $700k (£450k). Against Algieri ,with no title at stake, he'll struggle to make half that. We're led to believe that he was offered £5MILLION to fight Brook at Wembley for a WORLD TITLE! Somebody please justify his thinking to me please.
Khan's on the money milking train and following suit with all of the fighters. If he fights algieri, he doesnt have to worry about getting ko'd. Algieri's style is to run and and cover. He's been dropped 8 (?) times in his last 2 fights. So even if khan cant knock him out, its and easy points win as Algieri is not an aggressive fighter. Khan figured he'd make a showcase fight before everyone forgot who algieri is... at this stage algieri is at least still known as the guy pac stomped a mud hole in. If he does intend to fight brook later this year. He doesn't want to lose to someone like broner, who's still deceptive enough to catch khan coming in and could balloon to a mystery weight at fight night and pack some pop. Thurman too, aggressive.... Garcia, well we saw what happened last time.. peterson is matched with garcia. Algieri respresents no risk and probably a way to look impressive going into negotiations with brook.. Straight right hands find Algieri on the pivot real easy
Algieri is a step backwards for Khan, he needed to fight a legit welterweight like Brook, Thurman or Maidana. After this choice of opponent I hope Khan gets passed over by the Mayweather/ Pacquaio winner.
I assume it is to set him up v pacquaio if pac man loses to mayweather. If khan stops algieri coupled with khan and pac mans previous sparring history then there is an angle to work with, obviously it is a bit of a crap fight and big fans can spot that but I think you could sell that angle to the general public and make pac man khan happen... I am not saying it is a good way for khan to go but I would think this is his/his teams big plan.
The perceived upset would be something if it happened and it could. I thought Amir looked great against Alexander. I think the extra weight gave him his legs back but he risks much here. Khan is the kind of fighter that could easily take his eye off the ball in this one. He has a pretty high opinion of himself and could fall asleep on this guy thinking its easy work. He must think that knocking out Algieri when others could not makes some kind of statement.. From my standpoint, I dont think Floyd or Manny have any intention on fighting the guy but at least he'd have a little bigger soap box to stand on had he fought a different opponent.
In addition he's had lots of opportunity to answer the call of others and has not. Shit even Brook said he's like to fight right away. Which leads me to Khans potty mouth. He said he'd end Kells career and that Kell knows this and is trying to cash out. How does Amir get his head through his doorway? I may be in the minority but I think there is a real chance at Algieri not memorizing the script. Would Khan/Brook even be a desired fight anywhere but England if Chris beats him? Its got some meaning now and a real edge to it. Not sure much of that remains if Khan gets beat.
It's a smart business decision for Khan but a worthless fight otherwise. Khan is taking easy fights in the hope that one day he can force a Mayweather or Pacquiao fight. All the guys he beats aren't big punchers for a reason.
When is Haymon going to put two of his welterweight A-sides together? He has Khan, Thurman, Broner, Garcia, all around the same weight. Any mix of those 4 makes for a good fight.
Wow shit fight
Khan is gonna go all out looking to KO Algieri. Afterwards he will claim he did something Pacquiao couldn't do. The man has no shame.
He is A-class with good power lol , that's what Khan says.
8 KO wins in 21 , yes of course he has good power Amir.
Algieri is shit but if pacman can fight him then why can't khan, after all pacman is looked at as all time great and higher up on the all time p4p list by some lol
Khan v Broner I could just about live with but Algeri proves Khan has no chin and no confidence in his ability to beat Brook. He should be embarrassed that he chose this fight ahead of Brooks. Joker.
World welterweight champion Kell Brook has criticised British rival Amir Khan for showing him "a lack of respect".
Brook, 28, retained his IBF belt on Saturday and wants a bout with Khan, also 28, who has opted to fight USA's Chris Algieri next.
"Khan has no respect for me and looks down his nose at me, but I've done everything asked of me," said Brook.
"I'm an unbeaten world champion and deserve and command respect but he talks to me like I'm nothing."
Khan, a former world champion at light-welterweight, has expressed a desire to fight Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao in the future, but has said he may fight Brook "inside the next 12 months".
However, Brook, who has won all 34 of his professional fights, expressed his surprise at Khan's choice of Algieri as an opponent and told BBC Sport: "He is now fighting in my division and has not had many fights there as he used to fight at a lower weight.
"But now he thinks he can jump the gun and fight Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao before me, when I have earned the right to do so. I don't know who he thinks he is. It's about ego for him.
"Every fight fan in Britain and across the world wants to see me and Khan fight. We have a great rivalry, there's a big pot of money for him and it is for a world title. All they have to do is pick up the phone, but he doesn't want it."
On Twitter, Khan defended his choice of opponent and said: "Can everyone please wake up. I said the fight between me and Kell Brook will happen. When I think it's right. Look at who he fought last (Romanian Jo Jo Dan).
"Seems to me Kell Brook is dying to fight me for the big pay day before he faces a half decent opponent and loses that IBF title.
"Algieri (only beaten once by Pacquiao and still 140 lbs WBO world champion) is still a better opponent than No No Dan."

I don't think It is too bad really. He is still bedding in with Hunter and he is at a point where another defeat could actually derail everything. He's come on a lot in the last 12 months and the Collazo and Alexander fights were tricky fights on paper.
Mayweather and Pacquiao are out of the equation for him at the minute, Brook only fought last weekend and wants another fight in a month or so. It would make no sense to announce Khan vs Brook whilst the promotion for Mayweather vs Pacquiao is going on.
I think Khan is doing the right thing here by letting the fight simmer a bit.
He will fight Brook, I have no doubts about that. But if it is promoted properly, it will be as big as Froch - Groves 2 was, so if they both want to fight a gimme before they announce it, I'm ok with that. I mean let's be real, Algieri is still a street or two ahead of Jo Jo Dan.
ono, nice to see you're still running the Amir Khan fan club (:))
The Brook-Khan fight already had a date booked at Wembley for June 13th, Khan was promised/guaranteed a massive career-high payday, it has Sky Box Office, it even had a "world" title at stake. You can only do stadium fights in the summer, which obviously limits opportunities. It doesn't need any selling.
(This ain't about "gimmes")
Dan was Brook's mandatory. Fighting Dan means he has a year before the IBF can force their next challenger on him. It was also his first fight back from having his leg chopped off.
Khan then listed his possible opponents - Broner, Thurman, Cotto and Algieri. Of those five opponents (including Brook) there's not a genuine boxing fan on earth that would have picked Algieri. Shit match.
Khan is putting all his hopes that he is next in line for Manny/Floyd winner, he could even fight the loser providing there is no rematch. If Khan loses then the fight with Brooks will not be as worth as much.
Khan's snide comments means he is acting like a cunt.
Pathetic fight. I really hope Khan wins and then the winner of Floyd/Pac decides to fight Brook instead of Khan. Absolutely cowardly move by Khan. Broner would have been acceptable.
