Muhammad Ali technically LOST The Thrilla In Manila
At the close of a very trying ninth round, a visibly tired Ali went back to his corner, and told his trainer: "Man, this is the closest I've ever been to dying."
At the end of Round 10 Ali said to Angelo Dundee:
"He's too strong. I'm done. It's like Death." Dundee and Brown forcibly lifted Ali off his stool and shoved him out into the ring for Round 11. Guess what, that is a DQ. Frazier won right there.
"I'm through, Herb."
At the end of the 14th Round, on his stool, Ali nearly blacked out, then vehemently Ali ordered cornerman Herbert Muhammad to cut his gloves off, saying he was through, an order ignored by his trainer and seconds. Ali would later claim that this was the closest to dying he had ever been.

Re: Muhammad Ali technically LOST The Thrilla In Manila
The 'Triple B' Theory,
I believe Mr. Brockton-Block-Bust is correct el mundo.
Once a 'fighter/clown' is lifted off his stool by his handlers, technically he is DQ'd.
The Professional is not be touched, once the 'Bell' sounding the Round begins.
We all know, that a 'Clown-is-on-his-Own' once the Bell rings.
My new record for Muhammad Ali will indicate a Loss by 'DQ' in 11 as of right now.

Re: Muhammad Ali technically LOST The Thrilla In Manila
That fight was simply not that close and I was a crazed Frazier fan. I watched it live when it happened and that fight had a lttle drama at the end and that was it. I've always wondered why it has been given the space it has. The scores were 166-160, 166-162 and 167-162 all for Ali and thats the fight I watched.
I feel a lot worse for Robinson in the Maxim fight

What a lovely individual you turned out to be. Meeting face to face would be such a charming and sophisticated experience for me. Could you suggest any good books for me to read? I mean real books, not books you might hallucinate exist.

Re: Muhammad Ali technically LOST The Thrilla In Manila
~ Correct Scorecards thru 14 Rounds ~
__________________________________________________ ___
* Referee - Carlos Padilla ..... 66-60 > {10-4-0 in Rounds}
* Judge - Larry Nadayag ...... 66-62 > {8-4-2 in Rounds}
* Judge - Alfredo Qutazon ... 67-62 > {8-3-3 in Rounds}
* Associated Press .............. 63-63 > {7-7-0 in Rounds}
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rounds '5' and '10' were very close, and both could have easily been called 'Even'.
Muhammad Ali did come on in Round 11, but had 'help' from his corner in getting off the stool
at the beginning of the Round.
Grounds for 'Disqualification'.
Joe Frazier did come back strong during the first-half of Round 12, but started to fade over
the last-minute. Muhammad came on late to 'Even-Out' the Round,
Muhammad Ali had a solid Round 13, as Joe could hardly see and had an injured arm.
Muhammad Ali had a 'big' Round 14, as Joe was hampered by poor vision, and exhaustion.
-
Ali kicked Frazier's ass in 13 & 14. But the fight ended in 11/12 when Ali refused to go out at the bell and they pushed him into the ring.
FRAZIER KO 12

'Triple B'
The boxing record archives have now been corrected.
The result is now registered {and certified} as a win for Joe Frazier by {W Disq. 11}
It will also show a {Loss} by L Disq. 11 for Muhammad Ali.

Re: Muhammad Ali technically LOST The Thrilla In Manila
~ End of Round 10 ~
Muhammad Ali had backed up into his own Corner, during the last session of Round 10.
Smokin' Joe poured it on, and slammed Muhammad with his 'heavy-arsenal' over the least
20-Secondss of the Round.
At the Bell ending Round 10, Muhammad turned and draped both of arms over the top
Rope-Strands while looking down at the floor {ready to puke his guts out}.
Smokin' Joe walked very briskly back to his Corner on the opposite side of the Ring.
10-Seconds later, Muhammad's handlers put in the corner-stool, and Muhammad turned
around and sat down.
While on his stool, Muhammad rested his arms on the middle Rope strands, and had the
look of defeat on his face.
After 30-Seconds of sitting on his stool, Muhammad was saying >
"No. I don't think that I can go." {While shaking his head}.
Angelo Dundee was telling Muhammad >
"He's ripping you apart. Do you want me to stop it."
Muhammad hesitates on his answer, as he is not sure of whether to continue of not. Then tells Angelo {while shaking his head}. >
"No, not yet."
10-Seconds before Round 11 is set to begin.
Referee - Zach Clayton says > "Seconds Out".
3-Seconds later > Smokin' Joe is standing up, and is ready to go.
Muhammad is still sitting on his stool.
With 1-Second until the Bell, Muhammad is still on his stool. Smokin' Joe is pumped and ready to attack.
At the 'Bell' starting Round 11, Smokin Joe comes out of his corner.
2-Seconds later > Muhammad is 'literally' helped off his stool by Angelo Dundee.
Smokin' Joe is at Center-Ring already, while Muhammad is just getting off his stool.
Had Bill Paxtom been the Referee > he would have Disqualified Muhammad Ali at
0:02 of Round 11, for getting assistance from a handler during an active Round.
-

Re: Muhammad Ali technically LOST The Thrilla In Manila
1. So Ali lost to Frazier.
2. Mayweather lost to Judah.
3. Tyson lost to Savarese
4. Mosley lost to Oscar in rematch
5. Roy Jones and Holyfield should have won gold.
You gotta love boxing and controversies.

Re: Muhammad Ali technically LOST The Thrilla In Manila
I forget which documentary mentioned this. Some famous person @ ringside heard Ali said cut the gloves off. To which he ran to Frazier's corner to say Ali quits. But by the time he got there, Frazier's trainer stopped it (simultanesouly) as Ali tried to.
Side note- there are a few trainers who sometimes will (lift) their fighters up from the stool- I can't remember at this time- maybe someone else does? Seems a technical nuance to be able to lift a fighter from their stool & nudging, or kicking in the butt- get your arse out their & fight son! Oh- DQ!! DQ!!
