Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Cotto-Geale Clash Will Head To Barclays on June 6th - Boxing News
Not Canelo or GGG. It's not the big name fans wanted. Still I don't mind Geale and I'll stills watch the fight. Hopefully Cotto fights the big name next.
-
He should dump the belt and fight Canelo next. He isn't a MW. Let GGG have the belt and then we can hopefully get a meaningful fight from GGG against someone who stands a chance. Cotto should retire win or lose after fighting Canelo.

Not really impressed by the opponent, but I didn't expect much after the BS he pulled with the Canelo negotiations. Apparently catch weights are going to be the new in thing/loophole when it comes to holding belts hostage while you fight mediocre competition while waiting for a big payday. Hold the belt hostage, don't defend it, but keep it on a technicality so you can use it as a bargaining chip at negotiations to up your cut. What bull. The alphabet organizations need to start stripping these idiots and weed the f*ckery out of their organizations to bring some dignity back to the sport.

Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
For me personally I have lost a ton of respect for Cotto. I've been a fan of his for as long as any of his countrymen but this "157" bullshit catchweight garbage needs to get tossed. Why does that lame ass WBC not jump in and say wait a second here you cant arbitrarily change the weight! Wtf is this now a free for all? Just dream up a weight after you have won the weight title?
Its a great optional but why the F*&*&%ING catch. Its obvious they already think the Kazak ruined him so why the need to cheat? Whats he going to do demand a catch afterward should he prevail with the real middleweight champion? No, he's going to dump the belt and most likely fight Alvarez. I hope when the Wbc gives him his copy of the belt to take home with him that they make it out of paper.
I'm predicting a Geale win and maybe even a stoppage and in my eyes it wont be an upset at all but the noteworthy story that will follow for me is that Danial did it when forced into a dumb ass catchweight.
-
Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Count me in among those who feel Cotto should give up the 160 belt, or have it taken away from him. Let GGG fight the real middleweights. Cotto is not a real MW.... too small. 154 is as big as his frame will allow.
Having said that, I'll continue to defend Cotto regarding the Canelo negotiations. Canelo is a coddled little punk who only started fighting real opponents four fights ago, when he fought Austin Trout. Meanwhile, Cotto has been fighting world-class opposition for the past 10-12 years. But Canelo, with the Golden Boy holding his hand, decided to get greedy and pushy in the negotiations. Basically, Cotto said f*ck off... I don't need you. He's had a long, illustrious career, and like everyone else in the game at this stage of their careers, is pretty much looking to cash out.

This right here! Drop the belt or step the fool up and stake your claim. Better yet, melt all the belts down and make the shiniest toilets known to man. It's the same thing. This wink and nod catch weight 'every body wins and all is safe' horseshit is a mockery to a fans common sense and stubborn commitment to the sport.

Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Geale got smashed by GGG! This is silly from Cotto because it will show him up even further that he is not in GGG league. he should not even pretend that he could live with him and say it.
A big fight with Canelo would be the dream fight but maybe he is waiting for Floyd v Pac Man winner?

As if Cotto needs your respect.
He's about to retire and is looking for a few more paydays.
Geale isn't stopping anybody....if anything he'll be the one getting stopped.

GGG fought guys that have been smashed by others.
One of them was smashed in 30 seconds of the first round....at WW...lol

Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
I'm thinking Cotto will be a significant favorite based off name recognition, last performance by both fighters and Cotto die hard fans. If I can get 2-1 or better odds I'm betting 5-7 grand on this one. Geale is too big and mobile and will beat Cotto handily. Hope I can get 3-1 odds, that will bring me about $21k in return on investment.

It definitely looks like a cheap bs move to draw comparison in a way to the one considered on top of the pack. That's not so bad but the CW makes it empty. Geale is ranked in top 10 across the board by all trinket organizations (talk about oxymoron) and to not allow limit comes across weak.

Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Cotto turns 35 this year and he has had a few batterings, it won't get any easier for him. He will beat Geale and then must take on the real challenge of Canelo or GGG. A fight against either one of them must take place later this year before Cotto becomes a punching bag himself!
-
Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Its a fair stay busy fight but what's with the gay CW? Make your mind up, Cotto. Are you a MW or not?

We all laughed when Floyd said Cotto is better than Canelo.
Cotto gave Floyd a run for his money....Canelo....got embarrassed.
Speaking of which...when is Canelo fighting?

The difference between the Floyd-Cotto fight and the Floyd-Canelo fight was abysmal. Only one of the reasons why Cotto refused to cave to Canelo's demands during their negotiations. Canelo (held by the hand by ODLH, of course) comically demands A-side treatment, which of course you have to EARN. Cotto rightfully and basically told Canelo to f*ck off.

On another thread, the statistic came out that the Floyd-Canelo embarrassment was the highest grossing PPV ever, eclipsed only (expected) by the upcoming Floyd-Pac fight. To which I replied how stupidly boxing fans spend their money. Nothing surprises me in boxing anymore.

How can Canelo even be a PPV headliner at this point?!? Think about how much money this guy makes compared to what Chavez, Morales, Barrera and Marquez made at similar points in their careers. Canelo is no where near those guys in terms of skill, quality of opposition or experience nd he's making MILLIONs more than they did. Ridiculous!

I share your disgust and your very valid points. The answer to the question is one word:
HYPE
It's been a constant companion to Canelo since the beginning of his career. So much so that even fellow Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez (Senior) called him overrated and coddled. He's only fairly recently begun to fight credible opposition, yet he sports a gaudy record and commands big PPV money.
Only in boxing.....

Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Only a fool who knows nothing about Boxing would call Alvarez cuddled. The stupidity of such a comment. In his last 4 fights Alvarez has been in the ring against Floyd Mayweather, Erislandy Lara, Alfredo Angulo and Austin Trout. And the muthafukka is only 24 years old. Which of the current top fighters can say they fought better opposition at 24? Not Pac. Not Cotto. Yet fools still hate? Alvarez didn't use head gear and big ass gloves and take the Olympic route like Cotto and others. Cotto was 15 years old fighting other 15 year old kids. Alvarez was 15 years old fighting grown ass men. It was all on the job training. Yet dumb fucks call him cuddled. :vd:
-
Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Wow I guess Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is a fool who knows nothing about boxing then. Because he certainly called Canelo coddled back when he WAS coddled. Who gives a shit about no head gear and big ass gloves. The fact of the matter is Canelo was fighting dead bodies in Mexico for quite a long time, fattening his record to where the hype could properly begin. Thankfully, his people finally saw they couldn't continue the farce and began putting him in there with credible opposition.
Take Canelo's first 20 fights and compare them with Pac's, Cotto's, hell..... pick anybody else.... just fill in the blank.... their first 20 fights and see how they stack up. It's not even close. Canelo's first 20-30 opponents had to be dragged out of the nearest cantina to help fatten the kid's record.
But you just go right ahead and tell us how he wasn't coddled.
-
Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Not that Canelo is not a good fighter, I think he's over rated because of his popularity. I think Canelo is a good fight for Cotto and hell beat Canelo.

Cotto has history of this kind of thing so it's not so surprising. For every Pacquiao, there is a Yuri Foreman, for every Mayweather, there is a Delvin Rodriguez or an Alfonso Gomez or an Oktay Urkal or a Michael Jennings. They're not terrible fighters but they're not competitive matches. After the Martinez performance I was hoping he'd take that momentum I into a tougher fight. Certain other fighters have been getting absolute pelters for taking on weaker opposition. 😄
-
Re: Miguel Cotto will face Daniel Geale at 157
Geale is a solid 160 fighter, a lot of people are forgetting his performance on the road against Sturm. He's only ever been outclassed by the best man in the weight class. Geale isn't an injury ridden shell of a fighter like Martinez. He will put in a solid performance IMO.

Nobody called Geale weaker comp when GGG fought him.
Most of Cotto's fights are at 140 and 147.
He has fought tough comp his entire career..and has paid his dues as an established warrior.
Cotto is not a MW and is about to retire...let the guy build a nest egg before he says goodbye.
If anybody should be looking for tougher comp it's everybody's darling Golovkin.

The entire MW division is a shell.
It's the weakest EVER.

Nobody seriously thought Geale was a test for Golovkin did they? I agree Golovkin has spent the last 2 years basically fighting guys at a very similar level - Geale, Macklin, Murray etc. He needs to step up now and prove he can be as devastating at the very top level.
As for Cotto, he has more than paid his dues, but as a fan you want to see competitive fights. This fight shouldn't be competitive. I was merely pointing out that Cotto has disappointed in the past with his choice of opponent at certain times (Urkal, Jennings, Gomez), and for me, this is another fight that isn't really interesting - to me at least. It's a foregone conclusion.

Cotto vs GGG is not competitive.
Urkal, Jennings, Gomez
Came off loses...those guys are on the same level as the guys GGG gets credit for beating up.

Right , so the "lineal champ" v GGG is not competitive. Who gets the blame in your eyes? GGG . how come? He's just trying to make a living. So yet again, I ask you, who should GGG fight? Your answers in the best have been pathetic .
Ward - says he wants it, but guess what ? He's got a date in June and they've been looking at a "less challenging opponent" despite Ward calling out GGG in his 3 years out of the ring or whatever it is .
Froch - don't want it. Only wants Chavez.
Dirrell's - both got fights lined up.
Abraham - scheduled to fight Sturm
Degale - fighting Dirrell
Groves - mandatory to fight the other Dirrell.
That is the top 7 fighters in the division above. WHO THE FUCK SHOULD HE FIGHT??
